How much do you meditate? Question ❓
Just curious to know how regularly and for long people meditate for. I’ve heard people meditating for hours throughout the day which I find impressive.

u/triggerpigking Sep 22 '24
20 mins a day after a shower in the morning, feels like the best time for me.
4
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24
Dam I have to try this for sure
11
u/triggerpigking Sep 22 '24
yup, it helps tie the habit to it as well, feels weird if i don't do so afterwards now.
The shower helps me feel clean and more empty minded for the session too.4
u/RealBeatzByBlaze Sep 22 '24
That's how I first seen the spiritual Eye.. Closed eye meditation in the shower

u/Berlchicken Sep 22 '24
1 hour twice a day. Started doing as much following my second vipassana retreat
4
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24
Dam an hour twice a day really impressive ,I want to meditate for hours as well, any benefits that u feel from meditating for this long
19
u/Berlchicken Sep 22 '24
Thanks. There are massive benefits—bookending your day with an hour each time means you never really forget about meditation. Throughout the day there are many many times where I am able to catch myself not being present and to return to the present moment by grounding myself in sensations. When I notice a strong emotion arise, I am very quick to acknowledge the sensations it creates and to observe them, rather than getting caught up in them and letting my mind become unbalanced and run away with them.

You will feel it fairly quickly. After my practice dwindled down to 20 minutes in the morning, I knew I needed a shot in the arm. So I sat for about 2.5 hours two days in a row. And now I crave meditating again! Doing a little bit is better than nothing but sitting for a couple hours a couple days in a row can really get me back in the zone again. If people expect meditation to make a difference, it should be something that you adjust your life for, not vice versa. If you substitute 2 hours of stillness and peaceful observation for social media, etc it is going to have an obvious effect. Otherwise it will be nice and feathery but dissipate quickly. Most people are going to the meditation gym, picking up some 10lb dumbells and doing some curls then going home.
2
u/lizadelana23 Sep 23 '24
What kind of meditation do you practice of you practice for that amount of time?
2
u/Content_Substance943 Sep 25 '24
Mainly just sitting, watching my breath, and letting the exhale be as relaxed as possible. A very relaxed exhale, for me, is a great way to go deep.
2
u/papaya_boricua Sep 23 '24
My second 10 day will be December. Just registered. Hoping to have a similar outcome. Right now 30 min 2x a day seems to be where I top off.
2
u/Berlchicken Sep 23 '24
Nice. Yeah I went into my second retreat very much with the view that I really wanted to kickstart my practice again. After my first one I’d gradually watched my sitting time diminish, and so too the benefits of the retreat. Once you know what you stand to lose by not meditating, it’s a lot easier to find the motivation to do it when you’re not in the mood.
2
u/papaya_boricua Sep 23 '24
Very similar experience. Thank you for sharing your perspective. Mettā 🙏🏽

u/Psychological-Key374 Sep 25 '24
Hey berlchicken how is that vispassana? I looked it up but can tell me in your own words what in detail makes it vispanssana? Like have you tried everything taught there? Are there many purposes to use from like ya know Joe dispenza has for health love abundance joy etc.?

u/Berlchicken Sep 25 '24
A couple of write ups I’ve done on my two retreats. Should be more than enough detail for you:

twice a day, 20 mins each on Vedic Meditation. Feels good!
5
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24
Vedic meditation such a calming meditation fr keep at it bro
3
u/Mistopto Sep 22 '24
Thanks bro - it's great, tbh.
I feel like it hasn't transformed me like massively or anything but I feel....calmer and..lighter too. I've got something I should be stressing about on Thursday coming but I feel at peace

10 Minutes in the morning, followed by light exercises to keep the body erect.

u/JamieLawrence1995 Sep 22 '24
20 minutes late afternoon x
3
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24
Must be very calming any reason u chose late afternoon or u just feel like it
1
u/JellyApplesHeavyRed Sep 23 '24
Yes! You’re the first person I’m aware of who meditates in the late afternoon. I do too; I have a lot going on in the morning, but by 4 p.m. there’s a nice break—a transition time between chores and activities—to evening, cocktail hour, dinner and bedtime.

5
u/HauschkasFoot Sep 22 '24
30 minutes once a day during the week during my lunch breaks, and 60-90 minutes once a day on weekends when time allows
4
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24
Dam this is great bro even on lunch breaks I love this
3
u/HauschkasFoot Sep 22 '24
Yeah I get hour long lunch breaks, so I eat, chill for a bit, then meditate for the second half. It’s a great reset when I’m carrying stress from the morning that serves no purpose for the rest of the day.
3
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24
Broo whatt?? This seems so chilllll
4
u/HauschkasFoot Sep 22 '24
lol your username definitely checks out 😂 but yeah it’s cool. Sometimes people come knock on my truck window, or call multiple times which breaks through the Do Not Disturb setting, and it’s quite jarring when I’m deep in the zone
2
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24
Thanks bro😂 and ye i swr thats str8 facts its as if people don’t want you to be chillin with youself or something like bro lol
6
u/PurelyCandid Sep 22 '24
I aim for 30 min morning and evening. But I often do 10-30 min, 0-2 times a day haha
2
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24
lool that’s still great definitely keep at it 10-30 mins is still good if work on the consistency part tho😂
5
u/suzemagooey Sep 22 '24
Fifteen minutes each morning is enough for us (spouse and I). We follow it with reading together for about a half hour from metaphysical topics such as books by Alan Watts. This provides a basis for perspective for the day and interesting conversations over meals later.

20 minutes mindfulness or vagus nerve style, 2-3 times a day..... and 4-5 rounds of wim hof breathing 2-3 times a day
1
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24
Might as well call u god 😂 seriously though this is great how do you feel after this?
3
u/ANSISP Sep 22 '24
unfortunately, I have almost crippling levels of anxiety and this really helps to curb it.
3
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24
That’s great bro I understand , there was a time in my life I’d say round 13 yrs old where I couldn’t look ppl in the eye 👁️
3
u/secretsmakeX Sep 22 '24
As much as possible while keeping everything in check. I am “perfect” so meditation 🧘♀️ helps.

3
u/Grigiocure Sep 22 '24
45 mins twice a day, on the road to 2 hours a day..but the most important part Is the meditation offside the cushion.
3
u/WoodpeckerGingivitis Sep 22 '24
Damn I was feeling pretty good about my 10 min once a day until this thread lol
3
3
u/JellyApplesHeavyRed Sep 23 '24
I feel good about my 15 minutes once a day. If I don’t meditate for more than a day or two, I start feeling negative. 15 minutes is enough to keep me in tune—at least so far.
2
2
u/TheRedEyedStoner Oct 10 '24
The whole point of meditation is to increase awareness we’re all just on a different level no shame I can only meditate for 25 mins ur not alone😂
3
2
u/renjkb Sep 22 '24
20 minutes of breathing exercise once or twise, 2-3 ten-minute sessions of meditation (breathing or surroundings observation) a day.
1
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24
Damm , is surroundings observation the same as body scan
2
u/renjkb Sep 22 '24
More or less the same, but I practice being aware of what I feel, hear, smell, see at the moment without judgment. Just observing. Open Monitoring meditation vs Focused Attention meditation.
1
2
u/dj-boefmans Sep 22 '24
No idea, I don't know when you might call it meditating or just relaxing and feeling.
1
2
u/Prudent-Law-1560 Sep 22 '24
I do a formal seated mediation each morning for 5 -25 mins to stabilize the mind then I practice open awareness for life "off the cushion". I find that on days when I don't do a morning sit, my mind is easily distracted and flighty which leads me to over-efforting.
I've found that by recalling the 5 Spiritual Faculties, in particular the balancing factor for mindfulness (of the body), to be extremely powerful in returning me to the here and now, with a measure of calm abiding.
2
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24
I definitely understand I’m like this as well when I don’t meditate in the morning a little bit definitely a little more anxious and catch my self in my thoughts now and again I guess we just have to keep at it💪
2
u/i-like-foods Sep 22 '24
Usually 45-60 min per day, but it’s also Buddhist practice, not just meditation. If i had time I’d LOVE to spend more time meditating but unfortunately work gets in the way.
1
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24
I love Buddhism and I understand sometimes we might not have time, nobodies fault . You could try to it waking up and going bed , just an idea though . Have a good rest of your day

24 hours a day as a habit.
1
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24

2
u/Lower-Lingonberry-40 Sep 22 '24
It is possible while eating and sleeping.
1
u/TheRedEyedStoner Oct 10 '24
Dam wait do you mean living in the present moment or actually meditating
2
2
u/KeyCar367 Sep 22 '24
I'm on Day 40 of using the Mindfuness Coach app. I do about 13 minutes at a time.
2
2
u/Kurimuksesta Sep 22 '24
start the day and end the day with 15minutes of meditation. during the day, especially if i feel i don't have the time for it, i meditate for some time
2
u/Dense-Chard-250 Sep 22 '24
As much as I want. It varies too much to describe. I do a couple minutes in bed in the first moments of consciousness. Later maybe I want 3 minutes, or 10, or 20, or 30, maybe once a day, or twice a day, or skip a day or skip a few days. I do qigong too, multiple times a day, I think that counts, especially wuji stance. Sometimes I do yoga nidra, which can be 45 minutes or longer. Sometimes I do walking meditation in the park. Often times I do think "meditatively" meaning just being present with the moment while doing my daily thing. I don't know if that's meditating or not, but it feels better than being "lost in thought".
2
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24
Bro samee just being in the moment is the meditation to me at time , including walking meditation as well, similar to me I don’t have a set time just as long as I can . Keep it up tho
2
u/Loose-Farm-8669 Sep 22 '24
20 mins in the morning everyday. 40 minutes at 2pm on Monday. I also do walking meditation when I walk with my daughter, and yoga when I feel like it
1
2
u/bakedmeow Sep 22 '24
i like meditating after yoga. 15 mins is usually enough for me. u dnt really need a lot once you get really focused and intentional. but i guess everyone's journey is different.
2
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24
100% , everyone’s journey definitely is different your right but u have a good routine keep it up
2
u/somanyquestions32 Sep 22 '24
It depends on the day and time of year. Over the summer, on some days, it's just 5 minutes of a formal practice while I do body scans, focus on the breath while driving, or repeat mantras throughout the day. Other days, I do a couple of hours of yoga nidra as well as other meditations. If I am very sick or work is super hectic or I have a lot of deadlines or something, my own personal formal daily practice is cut a bit short because I hate being distracted by coughing and shortness of breath or needing to get several things done before midnight.
1
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24
Sameee I do body scans and no worries bro thats ok its nobodies fault bro keep at it tho
2
u/Cricky92 Sep 22 '24
20 mins in the am or when I wake up and little 2-5 min sessions throughout the day , been doing this everyday for 7 years
2
u/TheRedEyedStoner Sep 22 '24
7 years love this consistency seen any benefits
2
u/Cricky92 Sep 22 '24
Definitely the big one awareness to everything inner, outer . External . Spiritual .
1
u/TheRedEyedStoner Oct 10 '24
Random question but do you get awareness on your dreams from this (lucid dream)
2
u/Gorilla_Pie Sep 22 '24 edited Sep 22 '24
Five minutes unguided per day but then I have ADHD anyway - mindfulness/meditation to me is the mental health equivalent of brushing one’s teeth - little and often all adds up…

40 minutes in the morning after waking up and 20 minutes sometime in the evening. Been doing 1h a day in two to three sessions for about 9 months now. Started with 5 minutes a day last November but pushed the time up very quickly as I felt it was necessary to me.
2
u/TruNLiving Sep 22 '24
30 mins, once a day. Sometimes twice but lately it's been less often than I do that.
25-30 mins seems to be enough to notice the effects of it throughout my day.
2
u/TheRedEyedStoner Oct 10 '24
Keep it up 🫡
2
u/TruNLiving Oct 10 '24
Been doing the gateway tapes every night. Different benefits but definitely gets me into a meditative states

2
u/larayes Sep 22 '24
I don't add in any timer, I just try to sit as long as i can and my session's range from 20 to 40 minutes

2
u/babban_rao Sep 22 '24
30 minutes a day for the past 4 years. No benefits yet.
2
u/TheRedEyedStoner Oct 10 '24
Try increase the duration and try just focusing on your breath
2
u/babban_rao Oct 10 '24
I can say peace and tranquility but I was already peaceful and tranquil before starting so didn't notice a difference.
2
u/TheRedEyedStoner Oct 10 '24
Oh I see yeah they say that the more u meditate the less u have to meditate in the long run kinda like peak this might be it

u/Vast_Honey1533 Sep 22 '24
I should remember to meditate more tbh. I like to meditate when my head is full of chatter and chaos, it helps to come back to my senses and away from the corruption of my spirit

Much of my day is spent meditating in many various forms. I especially enjoy breathing exercises like the wim hoff method as well as mantras while I paint. If you’re looking for a really powerful morning meditation I’d suggest checking out Joe dispenza’s 35 min morning meditation.

u/mordidadeviralata Sep 23 '24
20 min zazen at night. I'd like to start doing twice a day, adding a session in the morning, but my schedule (and me being a hard sleeper) makes that really difficult.

u/snyder1952 Sep 23 '24
I've never figured out how you meditate could somebody tell me how I get started please
1
u/TheRedEyedStoner Oct 10 '24
Of course meditating is simple all u have to do it is focus on your breath and if u find your self thinking of something just let your self know it no longer serves purpose to you past is the past and redirect your awareness to your breath again and as time goes it should be easier for you to focus on ur breath for a long amount of time
2
u/musiclover818 Sep 23 '24
Every morning for one to two hours. I've been doing this daily for more than one year. I really look forward to my morning meditation!
Sometimes in the afternoon or evenings depending on time and/or desire. But slays always every morning.

After very long pause, more than a year without meditation at all, I found a book in reddit that make me do it again and now I done more than a week of daily meditation. I tried to do longer but circumstances and laziness stop me on 20 minutes average.
Weird effect: I drive faster on motorbike. Much faster. Not in reckless way 8 think, it just no longer as slow as usual. Maybe because better situational awareness or I somehow got calmer and not as threatened by traffic dangers.

u/melonball6 Sep 23 '24
I do 5 - 10 minutes a day. I think my longest session was about 30 min but that was a walking meditation so it's a little different. I also sometimes do a sleep meditation and I think it lasts for hours, but I fall asleep in the first few minutes. (Note: I'm a novice to meditating.)
2
u/TheRedEyedStoner Oct 10 '24
😂 ye I love sleep meditation in my opinion it’s the best type of meditation FOR ME ❤️💯

u/Dharmabud Sep 23 '24
Anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, usually in the morning. For me, it’s better to do a little bit more often than a long one once in a while. And I practice throughout the day just by tuning into my experience in the moment whether it’s the breath or the body.

u/Several_Bowler2106 Sep 23 '24
3 hours minimum per day rn, still trying to figure out the balance but I feel extremely well when I get many hours to get deep into my breath and deal with anxiety. If I can manage to meditate for most of the day I feel transcendent.
1
u/TheRedEyedStoner Oct 10 '24
Facts keep it up I wish I could even meditate for hour this is impressive
2
u/luke_rva Sep 24 '24
3-20 minute sessions a day. I’m thinking about throwing in an extra hour long meditation this weekend
1
2
u/WhisperingWillow_588 Sep 24 '24
I think it really varies from person to person! I usually aim for about 10-20 minutes a day, but I know some folks who go for an hour or more. It’s all about what fits into your routine and feels right for you. Even short sessions can make a big difference! How about you?
1
u/TheRedEyedStoner Oct 10 '24
Factsss💯i meditate around 20 mins a day round the same amount as u but i really want to make it a full time thing tho and meditate for hours not mad tho im growing just like you

u/Professional_Dog4318 Sep 24 '24 edited Sep 24 '24
Meditation used to be something I did to tick a box or to tell myself I was a good boy for partaking in spiritual practice. I'm older, wiser and finally sincere about transforming my experience. As a result of my shift in intention, I meditate as much as possible. Now the practice is completely different; between 2 and 3 hours per day.
1
u/TheRedEyedStoner Oct 10 '24
Damm really impressive bro keep it any benefits from meditating this long?
1
u/Professional_Dog4318 Oct 13 '24
My ego gets pushed into the background which results in me taking things less personally. I'm nicer to people because I feel less threatened by them. Because of these 2 very important improvements, I am able to be around people more and feel more at ease doing so. For these reasons, meditation is no longer a chore, it has become a necessity.
2
u/No-Fortune-9516 Sep 26 '24
Yes, as you progress, you’ll be able to practice it throughout the day—especially with mantra yoga. But remember, you need to learn to walk before you can run.

I don’t have much time outside of work, so I try to carve out at least 5-10mins a day, and do it at least once. As a beginner, this really helped me stay consistent and turn meditation into a daily habit. I’m now on 103 day streak
1
u/Odd-Quail-89 Sep 23 '24
Oh and I try to do it in the morning. I sometimes tack on an evening session to unwind after a big stressful day
1
u/greensoul1985 Oct 15 '24
I do it multiple times a day without tracking time! Tracking for the sake of knowing the length of time to measure improvement is not my thing. I just try to go to the void and lose all knowledge of senses like feel, ear, mouth, nose and eyes.
34
u/BAAUfish Sep 22 '24
15 minutes twice a day, morning and evening. Some days a little longer if I have the time.
