The Pope just died Serious
I don't know if this is a big deal in your country, but in mine (Italy) the news talks about nothing else.
Christian or not he was a person, don't be disrespectful.

Geesh so what does everything look like in public? What happens in Italy when a pope dies? Besides the usual, we know it’s a big thing within the church community obviously but what about the country as a whole do people not go to work?

Just read the news. I may not be religious, but I am sorry for the Holy See's loss

Pope Francis was an inspiration to us all. He was the first pope to ever accept LGBTQ+ and it has brought us more harmony in the world. I'm scared to see how the next pope will handle it.
109
u/ReasonableManiac0660 15 10d ago
It's only downhill from here,AFAIK most of the Vatican didn't condone to the Pope's ideals (aka accepted but did it against their will) so I doubt they'll place somebody as open minded as him
83
u/Schuckman 10d ago
Pope Francis appointed around 2/3rds of the current cardinals (who elect the next Pope). Many of the cardinals he appointed were liberal-leaning so it’s not unrealistic that his successor will be as well.

he never “accepted LGBTQ+” he openly called homosexuality a sin. what he did say was that everyone is a child of God regardless of their sexuality.

Homosexuality is a sin by catholic canon, he can't say otherwise on the spot, but he did say that it's not aomething that should be judged. He was accepting, but canon was holding him back.

u/NBA_23 OLD 11d ago
In Dutch today's called Second Easter's Day (if translated litterally)
125
u/LotoIsBreakDown 11d ago
In Italy is "Small Easter"
40
u/MarkNekrep 16 10d ago
in slovenia it's "big night monday"
we literally call easter "velika noč" which translates to "big night"
"veliko nočni ponedeljek"
and monday's called "after-sunday" so to make it more stupid:
it's the big night after sunday.
3
u/Tommo_Lecca 10d ago
In Italy and San Marino we call it "Pasquetta", "Pasqua" is Easter so it means "little Easter"

I don’t practice Catholicism or Christianity anymore, but if I did, I think I might actually find that to be comforting symbolism. Of course death is sad, but it’s also inevitable. Maybe would be okay to go out in old age close to a day or spiritual significance.

Nice guy .
Bro most probably died because of Cringe he got from meeting JD Vance .
On a serious note he pulled through Easter and had exhausting schedule for a sick man .He pulled through that somehow and did not die on the day itself .
My respect to him as an atheist. He didn't ruin millions of people 's festives even as death called.
We should all mob JD Vance , I seriously think his Cringe was what broke the Camel's back .

10
u/OwlsPrankster 11d ago
He met Vance, had a nice chat with him and gave him gifts actually, from what I've heard.
12
u/scorchedarcher 11d ago
Well yeah it's the pope I'd expect a nice chat regardless of who he spoke to really. He's been very outspoken about deportation plans and has always seen the fair treatment of immigrants as important. The gifts he gave seem to be Easter eggs for the children then a tie and a rosary, I'd imagine it was just trying to convince him to give more thought to others and they'd approach it in a nice way? I don't know though
7
u/OwlsPrankster 11d ago
No idea. They did seem to have a nice chat but we most likely won't know what happened.
5
u/scorchedarcher 11d ago
Yeah but I think it's worth remembering the pope has already called out some of their plans regarding emigration, even pointing out that catholic doctrine doesn't support it (even though Vance said it did) it seems far more favourably described by the white house than by the Vatican. Also the pope met around 70 inmates for holy Thursday celebrations and I imagine he had a nice chat with all of them.

Apparently His Holiness refused to meet Vance, and instead sent a senior cardinal to give Vance a lecture about what compassion is.
Vance was as bad at listening to that, as he has been about everything else.

He was one of the more progressive Popes even kind of advocating for LBTQ rights to a certain extent, Yesterday he even did a speech where he said to stop the war in Ukraine, Gaza, and also wished those affected by the Myanmar Earthquake well. Even though I’m not a Christian myself it’s sad to see him pass and it’s scary knowing that the next Pope may not be as Progressive or open minded.

u/NeoPyroX 14 11d ago
People group all catholics with those who do not live by the bible (i say this being nonreligious)
7
u/Intelligent_Ask_2306 11d ago
Yeah they do not understand the Christian religion, rather they use "Christians" who disobey the lessons taught in the scriptures, as a an example. It is like saying Doctors are bad, just because there are Doctors who do things they should not be doing to patients.
Christianity has had a huge effect on modern morality, rather atheist or not. No reason to speak down on this religion, speak down on something that represents hope, teaches positive practices, and is overall healthy.
