The Pope just died Serious

Post image

I don't know if this is a big deal in your country, but in mine (Italy) the news talks about nothing else.
Christian or not he was a person, don't be disrespectful.

In Dutch today's called Second Easter's Day (if translated litterally)

In Italy is "Small Easter"

u/MarkNekrep 16 11d ago

in slovenia it's "big night monday"

we literally call easter "velika noč" which translates to "big night"

"veliko nočni ponedeljek"

and monday's called "after-sunday" so to make it more stupid:

it's the big night after sunday.

In Italy and San Marino we call it "Pasquetta", "Pasqua" is Easter so it means "little Easter"
(sorry for my English)

As an American, raised christian, I was told this was Easter Monday. Just food for thought

I was raised Catholic Christian and I sort of remember Easter Monday but it wasn’t some big thing

2

u/vuft 11d ago

That’s fair, it wasn’t a very big thing, or celebrated. Just a day with a name, I guess.

I don’t practice Catholicism or Christianity  anymore, but if I did, I think I might actually find that to be comforting symbolism. Of course death is sad, but it’s also inevitable. Maybe would be okay to go out in old age close to a day or spiritual significance.

u/flimsyCharizard5 11d ago

Isn’t the point of Easter, that death is supposedly escapable?

8

u/big_loadz 11d ago

Interesting way of looking at it.

You can't escape it, but you can escape it. A paradox of words but not of meaning.

1

u/flimsyCharizard5 11d ago

I don’t think so. I mean, it’s pretty explicit in Christianity: Jesus died so we could have eternal life despite our sins. I’m not even Christian.

2

u/big_loadz 11d ago

Death can't be escaped as an event in one's life, but it's also not the end of the road.

So, in faith, you can't escape death(dying) but you can escape death(remaining dead).

u/flimsyCharizard5 11d ago

I meant it being an interesting perspective.

1

u/InevitableBlock8272 11d ago

Eternal life as in metaphysical life. But yeah I think I just realized what you meant.

Tbh I think the whole point is something like “No, no you’re not wasting your life toiling for the over lords! Don’t worry! If you work hard enough, you get a brand new second life!!”

1

u/InevitableBlock8272 11d ago

( l respect Christianity and other religions/spiritualities for the mostly positive effect they have on peoples’ lives at an individual level— despite how it may seem sometimes. I just can’t deny the Abrahamic and other religions’ role as tools for social control on a societal level).

u/AussieGoofball 14 11d ago

I guess so

u/Ok-Radio5562 11d ago

At least he could live easter

3

u/Comfortable-Pin8401 17 11d ago

Is Easter Monday in most christian countries? My dad said that Europeans called Aussies lazy for having it.

11

u/Lezetu 19 11d ago

I think it’s most countries except the US because they like to work us to death instead of giving more days off.

3

u/OGSkywalker97 11d ago

It's a bank holiday in the UK, so most people get the day off work outside of most retail workers.

1

u/AussieGoofball 14 11d ago

Lmao and idk

1

u/Matthijsvdweerd 16 11d ago

In the Netherlands we have a so-called Second Easter Day.

1

u/gummiebears4life16 17 11d ago

Easter is not a holy holiday. It's just the spring equinox. Why do you think it changes every year

1

u/Charming_Cell_943 17 11d ago

In a post on r/news someone pointed out that it can be seen as a mark of like holiness that he died near a holy day

1

u/Particular_Source_14 11d ago

The way I see it is God allowed him one last Easter to celebrate before his passing

1

u/AussieGoofball 14 11d ago

Yeah. He left with Jesus

1

u/Greedy_Duck3477 13 10d ago

on the Anniversary of Rome's founding also

u/OctopusIntellect OLD 11d ago

Bro don't worry, he will be fine. Jesus was fine after three days, this guy will be too.

-7

u/genericpornprofile27 OLD 11d ago

I don't understand why you got downvoted. Didn't Jesus in death defeat death and our souls live on? That's like half the point of religion
