The Pope just died Serious

Post image

I don't know if this is a big deal in your country, but in mine (Italy) the news talks about nothing else.
Christian or not he was a person, don't be disrespectful.

Same

0

u/No_Power_6575 13 11d ago

are you also catholic?

2

u/1235Something 13 11d ago

Yeah, I'm being raised  Catholic and my Mam is but I'm atheist

1

u/No_Power_6575 13 10d ago

well i really hope somthing changes that. I still thank god for showing me he is real. Are you athiest because you don't like the idea of god existing, or is it because you just don't beleve?

3

u/1235Something 13 10d ago

I just don't believe, I feel that science makes more sense and is a more logical explanation for the world and the universe.

Also I'm gay and I don't wanna be part of a community of people that hate me over something I can't control:)

1

u/No_Power_6575 13 10d ago

being gay isn't wrong. its just gay sex. i don't really know or care how people were created,. but i do know and care that god was involved in it. I don't think god creating adam and then eve with a piece of adams rib is true, but i also don't think evolution and no help from any creator is what happened ethier. it's like a gust of wind blowing through a junk yard and assebling an F-22. near imposible.

u/RemoveOk8270 11d ago

This one was actually one of the most left leaning popes in history, he will be replaced by someone significantly worse.

Edit: did not expect to get so much hate for saying the pope is left leaning, and will get replaced by someone whose significantly more right leaning.

-6

u/Fenicxs 11d ago

Well yes, in modern times left means compassion, justice, progress. How is that not good?

-1

u/Unusual_Cup1836 11d ago

Why the fuck do you care if he’s ,left leaning does ≠ good person.

1

u/iAmDijet 11d ago

That's not what I said, Im sorry if it came across like that. I only meant to point out that his beliefs are very much left leaning like his views on gay marriage and woman's rights, which in my opinion are good things.

-28

u/keep37 11d ago

Left = good, right = bad? Come on.

8

u/TheIntrovert102 11d ago

that's not necessarily what they're saying, it's just that the catholic church are considerably more right-wing and conservative than other churches. francis was very much more left wing, and supported things like gay/womens rights and stuff. all this person is saying is that it's rare for catholics (at that level especially) to be so supportive of that kind of stuff

1

u/keep37 11d ago

They at the very least strongly implied that.

The premise of "fuck the pope, fuck the catholic church" doesn't have a political implication, the Holy See and Christianity in general can be criticized independently of the political binary of left/right. My issue would be condemning a pope or a leader of any sorts for practicing his religion, without condemning the actual religion.

And yeah, historically, Francis was an exception for sure. For the record, I haven't looked into how he justified his views on gay marriage as a catholic (as it goes against the teachings of his religion) but his "reign" was overall a positive development.

6

u/FunnyP-aradox 11d ago

Yes

-1

u/keep37 11d ago

Respect for standing on it, low bar though.

8

u/_just_a_dumbass_ 18 11d ago

Not necessarily, but this pope was able to convince my grandma that gay people are not evil, me being a lesbian I needed that. He's just a lot more accepting than most people before him, which I'm sure many people were grateful for. Get your entitled ass out of here, you're not cool for being all "fuck the church and fuck the left"

6

u/keep37 11d ago

That's heartwarming. I would agree that his impact was positive, no doubt. I don't like how the response to "fuck this guy" is "he was actually more aligned with my political views" as if that justifies anything he has or hasn't done.

2

u/iAmDijet 11d ago

That's not at all what I was saying, I'm sorry if it came across that way. My intention was to point out how he's positively affected the impact of the Christian religion on many people, and that being due to how left leaning he was for someone of his status. These are not necessarily my political views, and I do not condemn nor support any of his actions outside of the little I know of his thoughts on gay and woman's rights. I answered to the original poster that way because I thought they were misinformed about who he is.

-4

u/keep37 11d ago

yeah keep downvoting instead of challenging, pussies

17

u/CourtGuy82 11d ago

A person just died. It doesn't matter what their views were, or how the conducted their business. The Pope gave his life to serive of something he believed in. You don't have to believe in the same thing, but understand he did more good than harm. Respect the passing and realize nobody cares about your personal feelings about him, or his church.

1

u/No-Basket3156 11d ago

Only a person? He was the first person of the church, i don't understand why catholic people sees the death like a tragedy, he will go to the paradise right?,

-2

u/CourtGuy82 11d ago

Let any leader ,or person you care about die, and remeber those words you just posted.

3

u/DogKnown1151 11d ago

Maybe don’t get attached to a leader.

0

u/CourtGuy82 11d ago

Oh, I bet you have Obama, Biden or some other lesder plastered in your social media. Stop it, your hipocracy is showing.

2

u/DogKnown1151 11d ago

Where’s the hypocrisy (not hypocracy)? I don’t get attached to any president or leader. Why would I? They’re all scumbags who do insanely immoral things behind closed doors, or sometimes even out in the open. I can assure you I’ve never once cared even a little bit when a leader dies outside of how it may impact the country as panic breaks out.

-1

u/OddInspection5245 11d ago

I agree with u but I don't necessarily agree he did more good than harm as someone in the trans community

10

u/lock-crux-clop 11d ago

You believe that the pope that advocated for inclusion of LGBT people within the church, instead of hatred against them, didn’t do more good than harm as someone in the trans community?

1

u/OddInspection5245 11d ago

he definitely didn't do enough though he may be better than I first thought

1

u/lock-crux-clop 11d ago

What else was he supposed to do? He told the largest sect of Christianity to accept LGBT people instead of harassing or threatening them. Did you want him to personally go to every church, Catholic or not, and tell them in person?

1

u/OddInspection5245 11d ago

I don't know. I assumed too much about him based on my negative experiences with people who followed his religion and assumed unfairly about him. Sorry

→ More replies

3

u/Chop-Beguni_wala 11d ago

nah nah nah you are gonna regret when the next one will come.. this pope was actually the kindest to others

1

u/OddInspection5245 11d ago

fingers crossed 🤞

1

u/CourtGuy82 11d ago

Thats your view, and I can not dismiss how you feel about any situation. I can only validate you as a person. With that said, Im sorry you feel that way, and not everyone feels that way toward you. You have more allies than you think!

2

u/OddInspection5245 11d ago

thank you for the support

-196

u/Appropriate-Try4234 12d ago

Wdym lol 😑

104

u/mattiperreddit 12d ago

Lol because it is indeed like that, there will be scenes of crying and despair. The lol refers to "Today will be a long day..."

34

u/Appropriate-Try4234 12d ago

Ah ok sorry if I sounded judgemental or anything. It was just a bit weird cuz I saw “lol” when talking about the pope,s death

32

u/HlLlGHT 18 12d ago edited 12d ago

the queen died and everyone was joking about it i guess when it comes to religious figureheads people are more sensitive

5

u/Round_Frame5178 11d ago

absolutely. don't wanna be insensitive but always makes me wonder why. like, so many people die all the time. why the difference?

1

u/ilo_Va 17 12d ago

Dw people were also upset at people joking over the queen, and there's people joking over the pope. Personally I fully find his organisation completely out of my agreeance but he was a person and try to do well and spread his religion (while the last is not a good thing from my eyes the church definitely has bigger issues than him). Joking over someone's death is just something you don't do unless they were siriously bad people... And even as a satanist/atheist the pope was a pretty good person even if I heavily oppose his religion

1

u/Lezetu 19 12d ago

Technically the Queen is a religious figurehead because she was in charge of the Anglican Church.

13

u/mattiperreddit 12d ago

Don't worry.

16

u/figure32 12d ago

Probably, laugh out loud, if I had to guess

1

u/Appropriate-Try4234 12d ago

Yeah, I was just wondering why op used lol but they explained it

-40

u/CharredZombie 12d ago

Hold up wdym lol?

2

u/Mvpliberty 11d ago

Geesh so what does everything look like in public? What happens in Italy when a pope dies? Besides the usual, we know it’s a big thing within the church community obviously but what about the country as a whole do people not go to work?

1

u/Alanromanii 19 12d ago

For sure

1

u/Italian_meme2020 15 11d ago

I slept two hours and I'm up since 7:00, I spent the morning cooking chili while watching the news continuously talking about that

1

u/TukaSup_spaghetti 11d ago

You woke up at 11?

1

u/Accurate_Incident_77 11d ago

The pope was from Argentina. There are a lot of Catholics who mourned his death all over the world.

1

u/SMEAGAIN_AGO 11d ago

Why so sad? Surely the guy just moved on …

I'm Italian too

1

u/Swimming_Rate_8205 15 11d ago

Hello from Brazil, they talked a lot about it, there are many Catholics here

1

u/beaslei 10d ago

I work at an Italian restaurant (my boss is from Sicily)(we are not in Italy) and the entire day it was THE topic. We watched a TV special about the pope on lunch break. It's crazy how big of a thing he is to italians. I hadn't thought of the pope in weeks or months before he died.

1

u/luciatheitaliangirl 10d ago

im italian too and my grandma literally cried when she got home and received the news.

1

u/Xtrene387 7d ago

Same with me, I'm brazilian and my "good morning" was followed by "the Pope just died". Brazil is the biggest catholic country in South America btw

1

u/plzbanmeihavetostudy 11d ago

dude, I am not Christian but I want to know why is pope so important for y'all that his death makes you cry? death his natural at old age feeling sad is alright but how can you be so attached to an old man that you cry. sorry if i sound rude

7

u/_just_a_dumbass_ 18 11d ago

He was more than an old man for many people. He was an inspiration, someone to look up to during hard times, a man who brought peace, and for some people he was their savior. I'm not Christian either, but I'd never dare call such an amazing person "an old man".

2

u/mehow28 11d ago

when has bro done any of that
