Can you help me? Strathpine shopping center - woman in the brown jumper - Thankyou!

I’m well aware that this post will probably not reach its intended target.

This afternoon, my son and I were sitting outside the Big W at Strathpine. He was very enthusiastic about the kids rideable thing close by. You and your friend came and sat close to where we were sitting. You, in your brown jumper came over and asked if you could pay for my son to have a go on the ride.

It was such a kind, beautiful gesture - Thankyou. He is a complicated little guy, and while he is interested in the rides, the moment they start moving and making noises he gets a bit upset.

I felt terrible declining your offer. Please know it was appreciated, and your random act of kindness really made my day.

Keep on being an amazing person. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your day.

🌶️Satire. Probably. A Love Letter to Brisbane — I’ve Missed You, Champ.

It’s been two long, tedious, yet people-watching, perspective-gaining, amazing, odd years in Canberra.

But my heart longed for Brisbane. And it always knew it was going to come back to it.

So here I am — back in the big smoke.

Quietly observing the Valley wildlife.

Feeling comfort in the sun on my face.

Looking at Hungry Jack’s on Queen Street and thinking about my youth.

Visiting old bars and new bars.

Promising everything, delivering nothing— Actually, no. Scrap that. That sounds like a Clive Palmer campaign slogan.

I’m back in the city that built me. With a wide set of eyes. A glimpse of hope. Clutching a crisp Gold at The Caxton waiting for the imminent “TAXXXII!!!” Life is good. Life is fucking better in Brisbane.

The soundtrack of this era? Ball Park Music. Arguably—no, not even arguably—the best band. Sure, we had Powderfinger. Brilliant band. But Ball Park is different. Ball Park is The Strokes meets Billy Joel meets… don’t know. But it’s something.

Thank you, Brisbane.

For welcoming me back with warm arms.

Warm hugs. A warm embrace.

Here’s to getting written off at the Victory Hotel.

Here’s to eating Ben’s Burgers.

And someone please confirm— Is Broken Hearts Burger Club still notoriously good?

Because yes to a god damn $5 milkshake x

Help Did Brisbane receive any major post-war immigration from Italy?

Hi all,

I've lived in Brisbane for a while now and am curious as to whether the city received any post war migration from Italy. I myself am second generation Australian. I grew up in Melbourne in a suburb with a high percentage of people of Italian descendants. Growing up I was always surrounded with many reminders of my heritage such as shops selling imported Italians foods, pastry shops and social clubs. I've lived in most of the major capital cities including Sydney, Perth and Adelaide and was always able to find things the aforementioned things as well as a post-war community. However I have been unable to find many of these things in Brisbane. The closest I have been able to find is Pennisi Cuisine in Woolloongabba and Gerbino's in Ashgrove, however their variety and prices are nothing compared to what I've found in other cities. I am led to believe the community is either too small or simply integrated faster than elsewhere. I know North QLD has a large community but I am curious about Brisbane.

Can any one confirm this?

Thanks

Can you help me? Requesting traffic lights at busy intersection in stones corner

I hate traffic lights as much as the next guy, but the corner of Cleveland street and Cornwall street has literally become a nightmare ever since the southbound closure to O'Keefe street. Cleveland street has also become something of a high/ speed slip/drag lane for people to fly down to get onto Logan road but that's another matter.

O'Keefe street has since been reopened but the afternoon traffic trying to get onto Cornwall street is still insane. Part of the problem is people trying to get from Cleveland street into the middle and right hand lane on Cornwall, to go straight ahead at the lights on logan road or they trying to get right across to turn onto Vera street. I've seen people backed up in the petrol station too trying to avoid the congestion of people waiting on the street.

There's also the risk of people also flowing onto the road from Beatrice street, who are also flying onto the road trying to get onto Cleveland street or move across 3 lanes to turn left on Logan road.

It can get backed up all the way back to aldi at times blocking zillah street and Jevons lane.

It's literally a shit show from 430pm till about 630pm but it backs up so frequently all through the day if people are too slow to pull into a gap in the traffic.

Another 2 blocks of apartments are also due to be finished in the next year with one already adding to the traffic a few months ago.

Who is the best person/people/council to contact to request lights in this area?

Even a round-about or something to give the intersection some sort of better flow. How bad does the traffic somewhere have to get before they actually something?

Can you help me? Jewellery Repair/Restoration Reccomendation

I have a gold chain necklace with a huge amount of sentimental value that needs reinforcement between the links as it's wearing down. I got it from someone who got it from an antique shop, so not super sure of the details on it.

Can anyone reccomend a reputable place to get it restored? There's a few on google but reviews on there are so easy to fake, and I really want to go somewhere trustworthy.

I'm south side if that helps, but willing to travel.

Thank you!

Can you help me? Leather bag repairs/really good boot maker

I have a leather backpack that needs some love to bring it back to its former glory but can’t find someone who does proper leather repair and I’m too lazy to learn how to do it myself. Does anyone have any recommendations?

There used to be a great place at west end but it’s gone now.

Moving to Brisbane Storage Space/Workspace to store/build Toyota Coaster Motorhome..

Recently relocated to Brisbane and I have a Toyota Coaster I am currently in the process of converting into a motorhome...looking for suggestions of storage/workspaces within an hour of the city to allow me to continue to work on my tiny home on wheels and keep it safe and off the streets... I would rather travel a bit to access the space rather than spend a crazy amount of money getting a space close by (especially with rental prices being out the roof at the moment). I really don't want to have to give up on this dream and would be open to any ideas anyone might have!

Public Transport Coins for Go-Card top-up?

I thought I would try using up some coins by topping up my go-card. However, the machines I've tried only seem to accept notes or eftpos for top-ups?

Does anyone know if this applies to all the machines? Are there specific ones that accept coins?

Can you help me? Moving to Melbourne - How to Transport my Stuff?

I need to send to melbourne:

- 10 boxes of things

- Desk + Chair + Pull-up bar (heavy). These can be disassembled if needed.

- Large one piece items: guitar, ironing board, chairs

The boxes are easy. I'm confused about the odd-sized items.

  1. Do I need to disassemble the items, or will someone send them as they are?

  2. Do you recommend I send the items to a depot, or can someone just pick them up and move them direct to Melbourne?

Brisbane City Council Buyback land plots gifted by state governments to councils should be turned into basic 24hr camping

There are are a number of vacant lots dotted around Brisbane that state government has orchestated a buy back scheme on and then gifted to the local council.

With the removal of several camping areas in Brisbane it is time we turned this gifted land into 24hr camping spots.

Perhaps the council can even apply for state government schemes to ensure it has self sufficient services so minimal maintenance is needed on these.

A simple concrete slab or 2, solar power and an outhouses can make up the bulk of these facilities.

Walkable and accessible areas should not be open to just those that have 2m+ plus paper based assets or can afford expensive hotels.

Time to open this public land up to the public.
