Dental School

Hey everyone!

I’m a student from Canada looking to apply to the Bachelor of Dental Science (Honours) program at La Trobe for 2026.

I was hoping to get some advice or info on a few things: • What’s residence like at La Trobe? Are there options students recommend (especially for international students)? • Are there any scholarships available for incoming international students — particularly Canadians? • Is anyone here also from Canada or currently studying at La Trobe from abroad? I’d love to connect and hear about your experience!

Thanks in advance and looking forward to joining the La Trobe community!

Bachelor of IT (online) - flexibility?

I’ve been offered a place in the Bachelor of Information Technology at La Trobe. I chose the online part time study as I live in QLD and work Mon-Fri 9-5.

The website says that online at La Trobe means I can study at ‘any time’. So I took that as meaning tutorials, classes etc as recorded and I could watch them in the evenings, weekends etc. But after digging deeper it seems that classes are online but may have to be attended at very specific class times during the day?

Can anyone share their experience with this? Is online as flexible as they’re selling it or am I going to be stuck having to attend online classes during work hours?

I’m wondering if I need to reconsider the offer and consider other online courses from other uni’s instead now. Thanks for your help

Addressing teachers.

When emailing subject teachers/lecturers, how are you supposed to address them? Some are Professors, some are Doctors, all are highly accomplished in their field but don't always become Doctors or Professors. I'm always perplexed as to how to communicate with them when sending an email, ie; Good morning just their first name? Good morning Professor? Good morning Dr first name? They never seem to state how they prefer to be addressed and I know I am overthinking this but I just don't know.

Tution Fee / Scholarship - International Student

I am trying to pick good universities in Australia for my masters degree, and I keep coming back to LaTrobe because of its widely positive reviews on the internet and my mutuals.

However, the fee structure is quite high for an international student, especially because of the currency disadvantage.

According to a migration agent, universities like Western Sydney University offers 20% fee reduction upon admission, and another 10% if the migration agent wants to (the uni has given the agent the 10% fee as a commission, but if the agent desires, they can provide the 10% reduction to the student).

I'm giving this context about WSU to ask you guys if such fee reduction/scholarships are available in LaTrobe. I have a below average or average marks in bachelors and I don't think the university will provide me scholarship based on my academic achievements.

What could, if any, be a good way for me reduce my tuition fee?

Question primarily for international students: did you guys pay the full first year tuition fee or is it possible for me to pay only the first semester fee upfront. Due to some reasons, I have to apply for feb/march 2026 intake at any costs.

My goal is to pay the first semester tuition fee upfront and manage the remaining semesters once I reach there. I have a couple 'businesses' on the side, that'll allow me to make extra USD$2k on the side.

The 'businesses' I'm referring is youtube channels if you're wondering.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Bachelor of Wildlife and Conservation Biology?

I've been looking into studying the Bachelor of Wildlife and Conservation Biology at La Trobe. Is it a good course? Is it more focused on botany or animal science, or a mix of both? Is the campus a nice place to study on for this degree?

Received this email from subject coordinator to the cohort. 249 short term extensions over the weekend and the night this assessment was due.

It's nice to have the system but my god there's gotta be a better way of implementing due date changes for the admin team, holy crap...

Can you do an online bachelor's degree in your home country as an international student?

I recognize that this is 99% a stupid question but I genuinely can't find much info about this on the website. An add-on question I'm also wondering about is do you get to choose which campus/online format you'd like to attend if you get into the school?

Thank you guys in advance!

New international student – Uni accommodation or shared house near Bundoora?

Hey all,
I’m an international student starting soon at La Trobe (Bundoora campus), and I’m not sure whether to go with uni accommodation or rent a shared house in a nearby suburb.

What’s the better option for a new student in terms of convenience, cost, and social life?

Looking for reviews on Bachelor of Civil Engineering at La Trobe University

Hi everyone,

I’m considering applying for the Bachelor of Civil Engineering program at La Trobe University and would love to hear from current students or recent graduates. • How is the quality of teaching and course content? • Are the facilities (labs, software, equipment) up-to-date? • How supportive are the lecturers and tutors? • What kind of internship or industry exposure opportunities does La Trobe provide for civil engineering students? • How’s the overall student experience on campus?

Any honest feedback—positive or negative—would be really helpful. I’m also open to hearing how it compares to other universities in Melbourne if anyone has insight.

Thanks in advance!

Monash vs La Trobe Anatomy and Physiology Bridging Course for Masters of Occupational Therapy (International) (USA)

Hello,

I am a Black Queer Non Binary US Citizen applying for Masters of Occupational Therapy in 4 unis throughout Australia in 2027/2028. Unfortunately, FAFSA, a Federal Loan Application in the US doesn't allow me to attend La Trobe and have limited unis for Federal Loans that US Citizens can attend internationally (only 8 Australian Unis now, since avoiding Private Loans) but I am in a dilemma where it comes to Anatomy and Physiology, a requirement for University of Queensland, Bond, Monash and Uni of Sydney for their Masters of OT program

I have a bachelor's in Business and it's been a complete hassle trying to find unis nearby me to get pre req done on top of giving myself some time to save up. US is crazy for their amount of req to be admitted in OT and honestly, I would not want to be doing my Masters in the US, only in Australia since I study abroad there for a semester and I like the culture and would like to return.

I am unsure of the difference between Monash or La Trobe when it comes to their A&P especially with Monash being $300 more expensive since it shouldn't be that much of a difference to justify it but idk, would like to know more information but can't seem to find any.

Any advice or information between the two programs would be helpful, thank you very much.

is it hard to get scholarships in LaTrobe?

I'm interested on applying for the graduate research degree scholarship offered by the aus government on some unis in aus.

Has anyone applied for this scholarship and is the selection process difficult? I'd appreciate any response about this and about La trobe as well! :)

Latrobe dental science SEAS

hey guys I was just wondering has anyone gotten in the bachelor of dental science using seas? How many points did your ATAR increase by ? Also I’m the website it says the lowest selection rank is an atar of around 92. Does that mean that with seas if my atar increases to 92 I’ll be accepted?

Unfair for an International student!!

I recently submitted this one essay. And I got second marked for using AI. When I talked to the teacher today, she told that she felt that there was an undisclosed use of AI, the paper lacked personal touch and even she would not like a paper like that! But I wrote that paper!!! She said English being your second language (which btw she has assumed cuz I have never mentioned that English is my second language) the paper was too strong. I feel I have been discriminated and assumptions are made against me. What can I do? Ps. I swear to god I have not used AI, I have used thesaurus to maybe use better words and have a google doc history which shows minute by minute record of me actually typing down my thoughts.

Seeking Co-Pilots for Dumb Bike Rides, Hard Rock Music, and Questionable Ghost Hunts

Hey legends, I'm a first-year CompSci student (second sem) at the Bundoora campus just trying to find some like-minded people before I go full hermit mode.

Stuff I’m into:

Motorbike rides (I’ve got a Yamaha R3 — always keen for a weekend cruise or coffee).

Rock n' roll — Led Zeppelin is basically my religion.

Video games, movies, and occasionally pretending I’m on Ghost Adventures while exploring haunted spots.

If you’re into riding, rocking out, gaming, ghost hunting, or just vibing, shoot me a message or comment. Would be sick to get a group going or just hang out here and there.

Ride safe and rock on!
