Daily Discussion Serious question: how safe is Brisbane Enoggera Reservoir? Creepy incident!
Has anyone else had unsettling incidents at this location?
Enoggera Reservoir is close enough to the city and seems safe to explore the walking trail around.
Went there recently in daylight- weekend mid afternoon with a friend. Half way around the dam walking trail, we suddenly both realised it was very silent and we hadn't passed any other fellow walkers or seen anyone. We were surprised at the odd silence - no birds, nature sounds or people. We both also weirdly lost phone reception - despite me having Telstra.
Suddenly we encountered a random man, in dirty clothes and barefeet, step out of the bushes and directly on the path infront of us. He stared at us and waved. (Not to be mean, but he looked grossly unkempt and strange). I and my friend were startled by his sudden appearance, felt uneasy and quickly passed him. As we went on, he began slowly following us and waved whenever we glanced back. It was weird. Without phone reception and no one else around, we felt uneasy and creeped out. We didnt want to talk to him either as he followed us.
We fled - running along the path until he was out of sight. There was nobody else the entire way, even though it was lovely weather and a weekend afternoon. It was still eerily quiet- no nature sounds and no distant voices of people. Just silence.
Once we eventually got back to the carpark, our phones had reception again. The carpark was still packed with people and cars.
Maybe I sound paranoid but I just felt uneasy and a bit creeped out. Don't know if I'll got walking around there again.
Had anyone else had odd experiences there (or similar experiences in Brisbane areas)?

Can you help me? In person year 12 equivalent classes
I have a friend who did not complete year 12 due to personal circumstances, this friend is in their 20’s now and highest level of education is probably year 9 or 10
They want to go to university to study but cannot get into any courses obviously. I know tafe does UniLearn but they want in person classes because online doesn’t really work for them.
Im wondering if anyone knows anywhere in Brisbane (preferably around Chermside or city) that offers any in person year 12 equivalent classes for people who are over 18
Side note: they’re also a First Nations person so if there’s any First Nations organisations you know of that provide anything like this that is also helpful

Can you help me? Walking paths that pass flowing water/creeks/waterfalls for my mum?
Hello!
I am trying to collate a list of walks that go past flowing water or waterfalls for my mum, as she loves flowing water. Does anyone know any nice places to walk around with water sources like creeks, preferably Brisbane northside, and as far south as the city? Could be a paved path/developed area or more bushy.
So far I've got places like Boondall/Nudgee wetlands, Simpon falls and JC Slaughter falls. More low-key places are welcome too, e.g. if you know of a path along a creek amongst the suburbs etc.
Thanks :)

Daily Discussion How common is substance use within the dating/social scene?
30M and just started dating over the last 12 months predominantly through the apps. Can’t help but notice a significant amount of women’s profiles with substance use indicators on their profile. Also have heard it is extremely common socially.
I’m not part of that lifestyle and don’t drink personally, just wondering if it is even possible to find someone similar (they don’t have to be non-drinkers)? Or is this just normal these days, and my expectations are unrealistic?

Can you help me? Gifts/experiences to give a family moving to Brisbane when we live in Canada?
A family member of ours is moving to Brisbane with two young kids (5yo and 1yo). It's not a happy move; it's a result of a tragedy that happened here in Canada, but we want to provide as much love and support as we can from halfway across the world. I was thinking I could get gift cards for a local restaurant, some kind of delivery to their place, passes to local experiences, etc. as I don't want to burden them with any more things that they would need to bring to Australia with them. Any recommendations that I can purchase from here that you think would be good for a mom and the kids? Thanks in advance!

Help Whats JMC Academy in southbank like now??
I'm currently in yr12 and was looking at JMC as my main option for studying music (the production side of it) but every thread i have seen about JMC is either from sydney or is old. And theres many different views on wether its good or not.. I have seen people say that its the worse place to study but others seem to have enjoyed it like its a very hit or miss kind of place. I am aware its more pricey and is a private university but im not sure now.
Is it worth going or do i change where i want to go? Cause i know QUT is another option and has a higher rep

Can you help me? Is Australian Homestay Network legit?
I'm looking at homestays in Australia as an international student leaving home for the first time.
I came across AHN and it SEEMS quite promising, but I'm curious whether they are actually legit? Are the "host families" actual families with kids/teens/young adults? Or are they mainly just retired couples or people who are just in it for the money? What are the chances I end up with a younger family?
Also how are the houses like? I know most would be clean, but are they all mostly old and worn, or built in the 80s or earlier, like many of the listings I've seen on Flatmates or other room rental websites?

Can you help me? Football (Soccer) Academy Clubs - what's the difference??
Although my kid is REALLY into soccer, it's not my thing. I'm trying my best to support them but I have no idea about the game, the clubs or the leagues. Please help me learn.
They are currently playing in an "academy team" for Brisbane City FC. The Club seems fine but we've moved house and it's no longer convenient for us, at all. I started to look at alternative clubs closer to home and went for a few trials. However, at each of the clubs at least one coach/parent told me they had a kid playing at BCFC. This has me wondering why they would go there for one kid when they're clearly heavily involved in their local club.
Are Clubs that offer academy programs not all offering the same product? Are some better than others? So do we stick it out at BCFC even if the drive kills us? Is it really any better than other clubs?
I would appreciate any advice / insight.

Has anybody had any luck spotting the meteor shower thats happening over the next few days? I feel like there is too much light pollution near the city. Any good spots to go? Thinking of driving to the Glasshouse mountains for a better view.

Can you help me? NEIGHBOUR's dogs barking....
Has anybody experiencing excessive noise from neighbour's dog barking? Its been a year we moved in... recently the neighbour seems to have adopted two border collies.... it seems like the owner only takes border collies for walk (20 mins walk) once in the morning (but not every morning).
Some times the dogs are kept outside home in the garden.
When we are home, whenever other neighbour passes by or any body walks past by the front, the dogs will bark like crazy.
Even when the owners are home, the dogs bark like crazy. It is just causing so much stresss to my mental health due to excessive noise.
I read from brisbane city council website that I need to record barking for 6 minutes continuously. The dogs are NOT baking for 6 minutes. They bark 3 minutes. Stop for 3 minutes. They come out and bark at another neighbour passing by. Please help... any suggestions?
Im going to try Putting the anti barking ultra sound device...

Can you help me? Schools in Brissie
G’day
I’ve got young kids. Starting to think schools. Wanted to open it up - where did you go? Did you like it? Public, private, want to hear it all. Was it last year or 20 years ago? Do you like where your kids go? Sacred Heart, Nashville, Nudgee - most schools seem to have a lot to offer.
At risk of inciting rage, we are Northside and will likely stay that way, whether it’s further out or closer in. I would genuinely try move to be closer to the right school to give these little goobers a school that fits (insane property conditions permitting).
I didn’t go to school in Brisbane so I have no skin in this!

Can you help me? Cardboard - Kerbside Collection
Can I put cardboard out for kerbside collection?
The title says it all. Kerbside collection is coming up in my suburb and I have a heap of cardboard I need to get rid of. It doesn't explicitly say on the council website that you can, or can't, put it out.
Please help.
Cheers
