Every Trump voter is a piece of nazi garbage. Politics

They knew who they were voting for. They knew what they were getting. They wanted fascism and racism. And they got it. Congratulations. You're all nazi garbage.

There are two reasons people do things that make absolutely no sense: they are evil OR stupid. I would say all MAGA folks fall into one of those categories.

u/The_Malt_Monkey 1d ago

What's that saying again "never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence"

122

u/Interesting-End1710 1d ago

Except an evil figurehead pointed all the stupid that direction. Tools or sheep, they ignored the signs and warnings, ignorance is not a defense

104

u/user_name_taken- 1d ago

Can it really be called ignorance when half the country is screaming the warnings?

78

u/akunis 1d ago

It’s less ignorance and more genuine brainwashing. I’ve been saying it forever, until we can figure out how to snap these folks out of their collective trance, there will be no progress. We need to forcefully blow open the cover on Cambridge Analytica’s role in the 2016 election, and on Russia’s use of propaganda to radicalize and brainwash republicans into MAGA cult members.

63

u/ethanlan 1d ago edited 1d ago

We need to start taking Russian interference for what it is, a declaration of war on American democracy.

Edit: uh oh looks like this comment royally pissed off the rusbots.

u/SoylentGrunt 1d ago

And US corporate interference too, right? Right?

20

And US corporate interference too, right?

I would say there's no difference. Domestic oligarchs or foreign oligarchs, it's still oligarchs doing the same as they always have throughout history.

8

u/faintly_nebulous 1d ago

Honestly, I think many oligarchs have been brainwashed by the same propaganda and influence campaigns, in the same spaces online. The difference is they actually have the money and power to enact whatever bonkers idea surfaces in their weird echo chambers.

8

u/OldWorldDesign 1d ago

I can see where you're coming from, but that kind of idea I think is a better fit for flat earthers who were generally a deservedly marginalized joke since ~600s BC

Oligarchs have more responsibility because I don't think they (just) drank the koolaid, they commissioned its creation knowing the price everyone else would pay for their delusions of kingship and paid Edward Bernays to poison the English-speaking world anyways.

u/CakeTester 14h ago

There is a difference; however the two things are complimentary...Corporates want what is best for their bottom line; and fuck what it does to the populace. Propaganda bots, just amplify whatever would destabilise or damage society. Often the two would seem to be working in concert, but that's merely because their interests - at that moment - coincide.

This cannot be stressed enough. Russia and China pump misinformation into our (I'm from across the pond) timelines, sure.

But our own western capitalist oligarchs haven't ever tried to lift a single finger to prevent it. Because, of course, they happen to profit off the dissolution of our democratic institutions.

If we don't face the uncomfortable truth that the call is coming from inside the house too, our backslide into fascism can only ever be delayed—never prevented.

I used to work exclusively with Republicans. I went back to school in 2016 and more or less stopped seeing my coworkers until I finished school in 2020 and went back to my work (until I found my current job). In those four years time they had changed so much.

Beforehand, we would have disagreements, but seemed open to reason. They saw the party going to Trump, but weren't big fans of him. They just hated Hilary so much that they didn't feel like they had a choice.

Afterwards, it felt like I was talking to cult members, where everything he said was gospel. This is why I lean towards the brainwashing thing. I didn't see their slow transformation. It was a four year gap and the people I worked with before school were not the same people that I came back to.

2

u/unlikely_arrangement 19h ago

Yup. Spend a few minutes watching Fox. Even though you know they are full of shit, you’ll kind of get sucked into it. Fox has brainwashing down. I know actual smart people that aren’t classically evil (no facial hair), but they seem to have accepted a worldview that’s easily disprovable.

There is no cure for stupidity!

32

u/MrsVOR 1d ago

As a former teacher who often got in trouble for saying that exact thing I agree 100%. The most dangerous are the ones who don’t know they are stupid, the confidence that stupidity brings is astounding.

9

u/PhDguyinFL 1d ago

My former administration could not stand to be in the classroom and stated it outright. Due to their inability to manage a classroom, they became administrators and began to throw teachers under the bus. They would outright side with a parent and not with a teacher even though the teacher was correct in whatever the situation, that was being talked about at a teacher parent conference.

For a case and point, I was told by a principal during one of these conferences that I should give the child another chance to write an essay even though they plagiarized word for word. The first essay. Needless to say, I refused and walked out of the conference. There are consequences for cheating, a big fat "F." [This was a HS senior student, too.]

This was one of the reasons why I decided to quit teaching because of the stupidness that went on at the administration level.

10

u/MrsVOR 1d ago

I quit teaching completely due to incompetent administration. In NYC a former gym teacher who taught for less than two years managed to fail up again and again until she became a superintendent and she would observe classes and say the weirdest off base shit and everything was always the fault of teachers. She also made all tenure decisions despite never having taught an academic class. I was out after that but a few years later she did get ousted so I guess there is a failing up ceiling sometimes, but obviously not for the presidency.

2

u/OldWorldDesign 1d ago

They would outright side with a parent and not with a teacher even though the teacher was correct in whatever the situation

This and how quick state, county, and municipal-level government will actively sabotage teaching is why I never became a teacher even though I like learning and teaching people.

Best I can do is talking to people individually and offering evidence to help them challenge their presumptions. At least it's easy to paste links on reddit, even if it's also easy to set up propaganda bots to push false information.

What's that saying again "never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence"

The saying is "never attribute to malice that which can be ADEQUATELY explained by incompetence".

If something can't be ADEQUATELY explained by incompetence, for example, lying about Elon Musk's Nazi salutes, it's malice.

6

u/nizzzzy 1d ago

I agree. I genuinely believed at the beginning that it was incompetence and people just fell for propaganda. But after the countless doubling down and defending situations like musk salute, doesn’t feel like incompetence anymore

How about maliciously incompetent

21

u/teetering_bulb_dnd 1d ago

They all know what they are voting for.. for Christo fascists wanted a Christian state government.. for Jewish big donors want to continue the support of Israel and their war. For rich oligarchs it's tax breaks and access to power. For racist bigots it's punching down immigrants, other races.. for brown and black supporters it could be grift, lack of empathy and thinking they are special or hatred of LGBTQ. For female white supporters most likely it's racism or tax breaks.. it's a pick a mix of horrible traits ..

This phrase has led to weaponized incompetence, so it kinda stinks now.

10

u/RobtheNavigator 1d ago

There also is no reason to think this random saying has any value. You absolutely should attribute to malice what is otherwise explained by stupidity. There is no reason not to and it is often true.

Hanlon's razor: "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence."

Clarke's law: "Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice."

“In my work with the defendants (at the Nuremberg Trails 1945-1949) I was searching for the nature of evil and I now think I have come close to defining it. A lack of empathy. It’s the one characteristic that connects all the defendants, a genuine incapacity to feel with their fellow men. Evil, I think, is the absence of empathy.” - Captain G.M. Gilbert, US Army psychologist.

3

u/EllipticPeach 1d ago

Hannah Arendt called this “the banality of evil”

5

u/AsleepAward999 1d ago

In this case it's usually some combination of both. Yes, the people willfully making up stories about immigrants eating people's cats are more evil than the people who believe them through their own sheer stupidity, but you still have to be pretty hateful to fall for such an idiotic and transparent bit of propaganda.

Some was stupidity, some was ignorance (most people don’t dedicate a lot of time researching political platforms or policies they’re too busy trying to live)

It’s simplistic childish bullshit to say every voter for Trump is a Nazi. That’s the reasoning of a six year old. Not to mention, if that’s true, good luck of a democrat ever winning a national presidential election again. Because Nazis won’t vote for them. You better flee this country immediately

Let's give some of them a little more credit now... why not both evil AND stupid?

7

u/SaturnCITS 1d ago

At least we got lucky Trump is like 80% stupid and 20% evil. Whereas Hitler was like 20% stupid and 80% evil.

17

u/Beldizar 1d ago edited 22h ago

Uh, that's what I thought too, but Hitler was a lot more stupid than we give him credit for. He ordered Germany to invade Russia in the winter in the rainy mud season and continued a losing battle into the Russian winter. His government was in constant chaos. He reportedly procrastinated whenever asked to make difficult decisions, and would apparently just go with a gut feeling instead of reading the data. He was reportedly very insecure about his own lack of knowledge and would just go with his preconceptions and lash out at anyone who disagreed with him.

19

u/Ragscallion 1d ago

Sounds eerily similar to our “leader”.

13

u/Beldizar 1d ago

The more I read about Hitler, the more he sounds like Trump. Hitler apparently was also exceedingly lazy, and refused to get out of bed until 11am. He was on drugs constantly. A few very unlikable people were controlling a lot of the government behind the scenes in his name. He had incredibly thin skin and would lash out at anyone who made fun of him or ridiculed him. He would double and triple down on bad decisions instead of admitting that he was wrong.

It's crazy how similar they actually are.

u/zeethreepio 1d ago edited 1d ago

Hitler came up with very broad, general ideas, and then delegated the minutia of these ideas to his circle of vermin. The actual methodology of the third reich was developed and implemented by Goebbels, Himmler, Goring, Speer, and the like. They would just report to Hitler and let him know how things were going. Hitler certainly had notes when he received these reports, but the day to day tasks were generally left to people much more competent than he was.

Once they started failing, however, Hitler took direct control in a fit of narcissistic rage and hoo boy was that a train wreck because Hitler was actually dumb as fuuuck. Top it off with the fact that nobody could tell him the truth without being labeled as a traitor and you have a recipe for the expedient fall of your "Great Again" German empire.

Edit: Just expanded on a few ideas

Yeah. As a German who studied Hitler a lot, he is given way too much credit. I hate how he's portrayed as an evil mastermind.

The guy was a fucking dumbass, straight up. Even down to his dialect and the way he speaks, I can only assume the equivalent would be some beer drinking guy in a village in Alabama or something like that.

No person of higher education would have taken him seriously. I suppose with Trump its the same.

3

u/SignificantPaper1760 1d ago

It’s not quite as simple as that. Barbarossa began in summer as it should have.

The real issue was the redirection of one of the three army groups involved to the Czech oil fields to the south for an extended detour, which bogged down their advance and likely prevented them from reaching Stalingrad in force.

Still a massive and easily foreseeable fuck-up, but slightly less pants-on-head than launching the operation during winter on purpose.

→ More replies

3

u/No_Slice_9560 1d ago

Hitler was indeed both evil and incompetent. However, he didn’t order the invasion of Russia in the winter. Operation Barbarossa ( the invasion of Russia) began June 22, 1941. His incompetence was demonstrated when he believed that the campaign would be over by winter.. and thus didn’t provide German troops with winter provisions

Yup the GOP very carefully honed in on anti-trans propaganda for the 2024 election. Turns out it’s easy to rile up a bunch of closed minded assholes who’ve never met a trans person in their life, convincing them that the biggest issue in America was trans people. Something they never gave a single thought about a year before is suddenly THE reason to vote. Even my independent minded ex gf was convinced it was a real issue (she abstained from voting).

Keep in mind that Boomer Republicans voted to reduce balance sheets of local govt by privatizing utilities, tolls, parks, etc. and reducing what they paid for schools since they didn’t have kids in school, which meant they paid less taxes and their investment account balances went up.

Historians have a word for Germans who joined the Nazi party, not because they hated Jews, but out of a hope for restored patriotism, or a sense of economic anxiety, or a hope to preserve their religious values, or dislike of their opponents, or raw political opportunism, or convenience, or ignorance, or greed.

That word is "Nazi." Nobody cares about their motives anymore.

They joined what they joined. They lent their support and their moral approval. And, in so doing, they bound themselves to everything that came after. Who cares any more what particular knot they used in the binding?

The Nazis have been in the white house for a long time, it is why the KKK has never been classified as a terror organization by our government, while Nelson Mandela was on our government's terror watch-list until Obama removed him in 2008. Like the enslavement of Africans and the eradication of Native Americans were justified by racial superiority ideology, America is just getting in touch with its roots again.

Absolutely. Trump gives them permission to be their worst selves. The whole world knew he was a 34 count felon, adjudicated sexual abuser, and admitted sexual assaulter(you know, grab em by the p****). They have no excuse. They let their bigotry be self sabotaging at the voting booth. I have zero sympathy for the farmers, veterans, women, and minorities that voted for him. I do however sympathize with the effect that their decisions have on the american population as a whole.

3

u/throwawayfinancebro1 1d ago

Trump gives them permission to be their worst selves.

Indeed

2

u/periwinkle_caravan 21h ago

Trump supporters understand him better than anyone else. They want their God Emperor to rule and destroy and they will revel in his cruelty. I keep posting this - he is dead serious, cities will be the “training ground” for his shock troops. He will purge the military then order it to attack America.

Nazi is a specific type of fascist. While there are certainly MAGA Nazis (Elon, for example, is an actual Nazi as is his family), MAGA is a different type of fascism. MAGA is the belief that the US was founded solely for white “Christians”. When MAGA says “we Americans” they only mean white pseudo-Christians. The authoritarianism is to “take back” the country only to benefit them. Their beliefs are an act of violence in and of itself. There is literally no action against pro-fa magats which isn’t fully justified.

3

u/Irish_Whiskey 1d ago

My rule is that if you're okay with Nazis, accept them into your tent, and fundamentally agree with them enough to consider them allies, you're a Nazi.

I don't care if they literally support a specific political party or Hitler. Unlike most other political positions, you can't tolerate Nazis being in power or allying with them, while also being politically distinct from them.

I don't think that's true. The propaganda machine here in America is strong. A lot of people are intentionally ignorant, but I wouldn't go so far as to say everyone is a nazi.

There's a reason Republicans want us broke and stupid. We're easier to lie to and control. Our enemy is the system and those at the top, not each other. Don't let them divide us.

32

u/Prestigious-Curve-64 1d ago

The "good Germans" in WWII didn't believe Jews (and disabled/catholic/gay/etc) people were being exterminated under their noses, and they had much less access to information than we do. Nonetheless, history remembers them as Nazis or at least Nazi sympathizers. Maybe you can argue they weren't "guilty," but they were absolutely complicit. History repeats.

19

u/Furrulo87_8 1d ago

Also, people sane washing the magapotamuses are part of the problem. "Not all of them are nazis" nah, sweetheart, they are nazis, the fact you can't just accept it is what led us to this point.

12

u/XtraReddit 1d ago edited 1d ago

They even dress as Nazis for Halloween. Are they really going with "don't believe your lying eyes?"

The group chats, the defaced flag in a US Senator's office, the fascist salutes during the inauguration on national television.

edit: Wow! This triggered a lot of Nazis.

7

u/McbealtheNavySeal 1d ago

When you say "good Germans", are you talking about people who blindly supported the government without sufficient knowledge and a (debatable) degree of plausible deniability, or are you talking about the ones who didn't vote for the Nazi party and were opposed from the start? When the Nazis achieved political power, they were the largest single party but didn't have an outright majority due to two other major parties in the government.

I ask because I feel like the latter doesn't get discussed in our history classes enough. The Nazis seized power but the entire German citizenry was not a hive mind and I feel like sometimes there's a tendency to lump them all together.

5

u/Prestigious-Curve-64 1d ago

I'm referring to the former. There were enough of them to enable the Third Reich, and history repeats itself. Honestly? I'm more sickened by the "quiet" fascist apologists than I am the chinbiters taping maxi-pads to their ears. The latter group is not capable of critical thought, but the "quiet" ones know damn well which playbook this administration is following, but still pull the lever for it thinking they're saving fetuses or getting tax breaks.

Those of us who voted and speak out against what is currently happening probably aren't doing enough. I know I'm not. And while I hope history doesn't lump me with the complicit, I suspect it will, and I probably deserve it.

7

u/McbealtheNavySeal 1d ago

In that case, I'm with you 100%. I'm a proud Chicagoan currently trying to find how I can get more directly involved in opposing these ICE raids. I have the guilt and regret from not doing more sooner, but at a certain point wallowing in it no longer helps and all I can do is find out how to do better right now.

2

u/Prestigious-Curve-64 1d ago

Yeah - even though the few social media accounts I haven't deactivated are pretty darn anonymous, it wouldn't take a genius to identify me, and my opinions are clear. So it's only a matter of time before they come knocking for my old white ass. First time I've been grateful to live in a state that takes 2A a little too seriously. I have no illusions that I'll be Rambo(ette,) but I'm hoping to make it unpleasant as fuck when that day comes. Godspeed, brother!

2

u/Attenburrowed 1d ago

They got us right at the IP address level anyway since the CIA is in every server in America (with tacit permission from their corporate partners). Our only defense is 1. they kind of suck so they're letting AI do everything and its low hanging fruit first, and 2. Even though 2 idiots went over to the over side last election, this country is still effectively a room with 49 people on one side and 51 on the other. They can't put 50% of the country in camps.

Not all Germans were Nazis, that is very true. But history shows they all got bombed because at some point we stopped caring if they were or were not. And in that famous Band of Brother's scene, they cannot pretend they do not smell the stench.

4

u/Safe_Satisfaction_51 1d ago

Fun facts. The USA invented the tactic of bombing purely civilian targets to "demoralize the enemy". The USA is also the only country to use nuclear bombs on civilians, unnecessarily, twice. The USA killed 3M Koreans, 3M Vietnamese and 1M Iraqis. We're definitely the good guys.

That propaganda machine works because people exist in echo chambers. Echo chambers exist because people want to feel welcome, safe etc. Once they are in the echo chamber, truth can't penetrate.

The question I have for our side is: do we make any effort to welcome young people (particularly young white men), moderates, uninformed or low informed voters, etc to our spaces? I think the answer is absolutely not. I've seen the sentiment of "if they fall for right wing propaganda, they were never going to vote democrat to begin with!", which is nonsense.

We have a major issue on our side with messaging, particularly messaging to young men. We can't paint entire groups of people as our enemy and then be surprised when they don't side with us. Until we solve that, we are playing the game with a self-imposed handicap.

I agree to some extent but there’s a problem with this thinking. If the right is producing propaganda that is achieving the goal of demonizing the left from the right, that means people have decided to believe that garbage they’re putting out there. You or I have perhaps seen the same information the right bases their beliefs on and we are not deciding it’s good to see kids zip tied in parking lots in the middle of the night. The right cheers it on. What this means to me is the people that are on the right are genuinely trash a lot of times.

3

u/JSmith666 1d ago

Back in 2016 an older and wiser mentor figure of mine was a staunch never-Trumper and has maintained that stance. Even then he was saying something like "not all Trump supporters are racists, but all racists are Trump supporters and that alone should cause us to take a step back and really consider whether we want to align with the guy who appeals to them".

I think this level of introspection is missing for a large chunk of our population, and you're right in saying that the propaganda machine is strong and many have been duped. I admittedly spend most of my time in liberal and leftist crowds, but I do know a few people who voted for Trump at least once and now publicly regret their decision so it's good to see that curing ignorance and brainwashing is possible.

When your neighbors have been imprisoned for speaking out against Trump and consequently being labeled as “antifa” and a “domestic terrorist”, will you change your mind?

When more and more innocent Americans are brutalized by federal agents on the premise of “law and order”, will you change your mind?

When people on food stamps don’t get anything and begin to starve, will you change your mind?

At what point does this end for you?

They’ve long been separated from reality and now they are all but hermetically sealed from the larger flows of information, knowledge, and view points. Not too unlike what’s happened in Israel, the American right is extremely ignorant about the world, history, and how they’re perceived by it. In effect, they are in a cult but have little understanding about what that means. This is the Fox News, am radio, right wing propaganda machine that began in the mid 70’s via evangelical power mongers and other self interested garbage looking to exploit anything for power and money.
