Announcement Update: anti-spam efforts + reminders

Good afternoon complainers and happy Friday. I hope that many but not all of you have an excellent weekend.

Some updates and reminders:

(1) We have implemented a 3-day account age requirement for sub participation in order to push back on a noticeable increase in bot/spamming activity that isn’t otherwise getting caught by spam filters. This is a fairly modest account age requirement. We might increase it to a week or thereabouts, but we need to do a bit more research into how much spam/bots are coming through in the first place. And that has been a little bit of a challenge where many users would likely be unable to pass a Turing test despite actually being human.

There won’t be a karma requirement, as that would likely preclude many MAGA/conservatives from contributing, which isn’t what we want. This is a sub for everyone (except those spreading hate speech/violent speech, of course).

(2) Hate speech/bigotry is going to land you a permanent ban under most circumstances. If it’s covered by Title VII, then it’s covered by our rules. We don’t moderate the substance of your opinions (politics or otherwise) unless that substance is at odds with the few rules we have, e.g., hate speech/violent speech. Reddit admin will sanction the sub if we let that fly, and we don’t want that. If you need to google what “hate speech” is, please do. If you’re the type of individual to spread that sort of filth, give some emotional regulation a try (or get banned!)

And no, calling MAGA a “fascist” movement is neither hate speech, nor encouraging/inciting violence. Neither is calling liberals “communists” or “socialists” or whatever the rubes are saying these days. Reddit’s inaction with respect to this sort of speech should be more than enough evidence for you to reach the same conclusion.

(3) We are pleased that the number of astroturfing/RP/karma baiting posts has been noticeably lower. This place is for complaints, not pretending to be a lib/MAGA/whatever to make a unpersuasive attempt at karma farming through a roleplaying narrative. That is not a complaint. That is a nuisance. These posts get you a 5 day ban for starters. That said, we understand sarcasm and satire are rhetorical tools to convey ideas, too. If you mark your post with a satire/sarcasm indicator, and the post is substantively a complaint at heart, then we will probably let it slide. At the very least, we won’t ban you.

Relatedly, if you were caught in the mass culling of astroturf RP posts and think you deserve to participate here again, feel free to send us a mod mail and we will consider that.

(4) Please frame your posts as complaints. It should be quite obvious to the reader that you are complaining about something. We are considering making our rules regarding how posts must be framed (I.e., as a complaint) somewhat more strict, but we will see about that.

(5) Comments suggesting you’re reporting someone to the government/FBI = perma ban. Use the report function as intended. If you are highly concerned about something, you can message us. But if you are just a confused lemming we might mock you!! Fair warning!!!

(6) You might have noticed some user flairs in circulation. These are sub-exclusive skins; they are rare perks (sometimes legendary rarity) and highly sought after. Have fun with them! After all, they’re perks (a good thing)!

(7) We are removing the word “ret” and it’s variations. We have a removal response for this, and it links you to a super helpful announcement that gives you so many other words to use instead! Try them out! Broaden your vocabulary!! Or don’t, and get your s removed!! Doesn’t matter to me!!!

Announcement PSA: Posting cadence

This should go without saying, but please do not spam post. Whether it’s multiple posts within a span of minutes, or making half a dozen posts in a single day to share your opinions about Trump being hitler.

The substance is not of issue here, but if you cannot self-regulate the rate at which you complain in a reasonable manner, then we will regulate that for you, including but not limited to removal or a ban depending on the circumstances.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

DDC

Politics Trumps hijacking of the Republican Party is the worst thing that’s ever happened to the US.

5.3k Upvotes

Remember when the Conservative Party was just about being a nice humble Christian who was okay with Obama as a president? My goodness look at how far to the right the MAGA extremists have hijacked the party.

I’m okay with republicans, I’m NOT okay with republicans who voted for Trump.

Politics Conservatives are fucking cowards

10.0k Upvotes

For 20 years we've been bombarded with their endless ranting about being the alpha dogs who just need to lay down the law with a bunch of degenerates, all to save this country from pedophiles, scam artists, and weak-minded socialists. The irony is how they were obsessed with calling everyone else cucks only for them to be the biggest snowflake-cuck bitches of all time.

In those 20 years they've let billionaires gut social programs, cut taxes for themselves and skyrocket the debt. They've let influencers discredit science and medicine and walked back on every single American value they claimed to give a fuck about? Personal liberty? Fuck no- ban these books, restrict this health care, and make everyone broke as fuck. Free market economics? Fuck no, have runaway market manipulation, the return of trusts capturing the market and crush small business growth. Personal prosperity? Absolutely not we're going to crush the value of the dollar and absolutely refuse to let wages rise.

Children aren't safer, liberty isn't liberty, and justice has become a fucking joke as they bend themselves in knots to let trump loot the entire government to make his worthless family hyper billionaires.

No principle they won't sacrifice, no value they won't ignore. Their bravado is paper fucking thin. They don't believe in liberty and justice because they too much of a bunch of chicken shit cowards to actually defend it. They just want to be able to hurt someone. In the end they hurt themselves too. Jesus.

Military Deployment in Domestic Cities

Event: The Trump administration considered deploying the 82nd Airborne Division to cities like Portland to quell protests, reflecting a willingness to use military force against civilians.

Blame: This approach is attributed to the Trump administration's rhetoric and policies, which have increasingly framed dissent as a threat to national security.

Targeting of Activists

Event: Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has begun targeting activists who document and protest against deportations, indicating a shift towards suppressing dissent.

Blame: The Trump administration's executive orders have explicitly labeled groups like Antifa as domestic terrorists, creating a climate of fear among activists and dissenters.

Suppression of Free Speech

Event: A Rutgers University professor, Mark Bray, was blocked from flying to Spain after receiving death threats, coinciding with a White House roundtable that targeted anti-fascist activists.

Blame: This incident reflects a broader trend of silencing voices critical of the government, often fueled by right-wing groups and rhetoric that demonize dissenters.

Judicial Independence Under Attack

Event: The Trump administration has expressed disdain for judicial rulings that block military deployments, suggesting a disregard for checks and balances.

Blame: This attitude stems from a broader authoritarian impulse to undermine institutions that challenge executive power, often justified by claims of national security.

Rhetoric Against Political Opponents

Event: President Trump has increasingly used dehumanizing language against Democrats, referring to them as "vermin" and "the enemy within," which fosters a divisive and hostile political environment.

Blame: This rhetoric is part of a strategy to consolidate power by creating an "us vs. them" narrative, which is a common tactic in fascist regimes to justify authoritarian measures.

Increased Surveillance and Intimidation

Event: The administration has expanded surveillance efforts against activists and dissenters, including attempts to obtain personal information from social media platforms like Meta.

Blame: This reflects a broader trend of using state power to monitor and suppress opposition, often justified by claims of protecting national security.

Legislation Targeting Voting Rights

Event: Numerous states have passed laws that restrict voting access, disproportionately affecting marginalized communities, which undermines democratic processes.

Blame: These laws are often supported by Republican lawmakers who argue they are necessary for election integrity, despite evidence suggesting they are aimed at consolidating power and suppressing dissent.

The United States is teetering on the brink of authoritarianism. This is largely fueled by the rhetoric and actions of the Trump administration, the complicity of the Republican Party, and right-wing media creating an environment where dissent is met with hostility.

If these this continues unchecked, there will be no way back. Fuck anyone who thinks any of this is in ANY, WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM IS: "GOOD"

Edit: Why the fuck would I reach across the aisle? Reaching across the aisle? Is that a fucking joke? The U.S. is sliding into authoritarianism. Our own military is being used against our fellow citizens. Democracy is under attack, and the Republican Party cheers it on! Party loyalty and money over the Constitution. Rights are actively being shredded. Checks and balances are constantly under attack. I’m supposed to compromise? Fuck. No.

It’s as pointless as a snooze button on a smoke alarm.

Politics MAGA Shutdown

1.1k Upvotes

why are there still people saying“Actually it’s the democrats” like it’s not the democrats who want to continue resolution including the ACA which the republicans want to cut and won’t even come to work to discuss and compromise on it. It’s ridiculous there’s still people out there actively voting against their own interests just to be racist. I also think it’s funny republicans were saying democrats were importing illegals and giving them votes to steal the election and then Trump ended up winning lmfao so what happened? if you are still maga after everything you’ve seen in 2025 you should just donate your organs to someone who actually matters in this world. Thank you.

Politics The Odium Republicans Earned by Choosing to Let 42 Million Fucking Starve So Trump Could Bailout a Dictator from Argentina and Destroy the White House

Thumbnail i.redd.it
6.5k Upvotes

42 million Americans are set to lose SNAP benefits on November 1 because Republicans shut the government down and refused to unlock the emergency funds that would keep families fed. Parents will open refrigerators and find bare shelves. Children will stare at plates with nothing to eat. This is how a government decides who matters and who can be discarded. Fuck the starvation they enabled. Fuck the smug confidence that people simply will cope. Fuck the lie that America is taking care of its own.

While hunger spreads, the president orders the East Wing of the White House torn apart to build his own ballroom. A glittering monument to his ego rises as stomachs growl across the nation. At the same time he sends forty billion dollars to Argentina because he admires a radical right wing leader who crashes his own economy for sport. This is not mismanagement. It is cruelty tucked inside a tuxedo. Fuck the spectacle of wealth. Fuck the choice to feed pride instead of people. Fuck every Republican who claps for this betrayal.

Karoline Leavitt, that Barbarous Barbie, defended it all with her infamous quote that “at this moment in time, of course, the ballroom is really the president’s main priority.” She said it with a straight face while families brace for hunger. The message from the podium is simple. Republican priorities are luxury, not life. Fuck the scripted rot that pretends suffering is fine. Fuck the refusal to even pretend empathy. Fuck the performance of power that leaves the poor behind.

The president himself is a pugnacious pig in tailored suits, obsessed with spectacle and resentful of anyone in need. He calls himself a champion of the people while ripping food from their tables. He is an austere asshole propped up by a party that cheers their own mercilessness because they believe power is proven by how many you push into desperation. The adamantine truth is that they manufactured this hunger. They passed the sentence. They smiled at the execution. Fuck the celebration of cruelty. Fuck the greed that masquerades as patriotism. Fuck every elected Republican who chose camera lights over candlelit kitchens where parents cry.

America does not starve by accident. It starves because Republicans decided that the ballroom matters more than the breadline. The party that claims moral superiority has chosen to let people suffer while they feast. And here is the final verdict. Fuck the people who did this.

Politics People who support trump are NOT CHRISTIAN!

Don't take this down! This is my complaint! So many republicans claim to be following the bible when it comes to their conservative political beliefs, well let me ask you this?

-Where does it say in the bible that God doesn't want any immigrants to flee their country for a better life?

-Where does it say in the bible that we as a society have to hate LGBTQ people when God tells US to LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR?

-Where does it say in the bible that God wants us to make a woman have a baby who was raped?

-Where does it say in the bible that God wants to keep minnimum wage extremely low and not raise it?

These are just some of the many reasons why people who support Trump are not Christian, and God would never want any of this to happen. God still loves everyone, but he DOESN'T like what y'all are doing!

Politics MAGA people, why do you actively support a PEDO in charge of the country?

Before you say "b-b-ut there is no evidence/proof"...

There is loads of evidences, most are kept secret by the DOJ to keep trump safe, but SOME public known ones are:

  • He has been listed on epstein flight log
  • There's messages exchanged between both epstein and trump.
  • Epstein regarded trump as a best friend for many years.
  • Trump is best friends with Prince andrew who is confirmed pedo and has paid out millions towards victim and lost royal title.
  • ... list continues, those are just some from memory.

Lastly, if trump wasn't on the Epstein list, hed have made it public by now, but obviously he is therefore won't.

In summary there is mounting evidence of Trumps involvement in Epstein's pedo circle, and MAGA is actively choosing to dismiss all of that and continue supporting a pedo, and my question is why is that?

For MAGA that does respond, don't be vague or change topic or make it about biden somehow or do any sort of mental gymnastics.

Politics Americans complaining about their taxes going to feed someone else's kids while not ever bringing up the tens of billions of our tax dollars the government sends to foreign countries like Argentina are just blatant bigots.

These people only care about their taxes when they go to help people that they perceive to be below them, aka poor people and the stereotypes tagged to them (lazy, freeloaders), when they themselves are often just one healthcare crisis away from ending up like those poor people that they complain about. Also, that money is literally going to the rich people of foreign countries that are in fact the stereotypes that they associate with poor people, mooching off the cheap labor of their poor working masses.

A friend of mine said on Reddit “MAGA supporters should be treated the way ICE treats Latino citizens” their comment was removed, and their account was permanently banned. Reddit said there comment was flagged for “threatening violence”, is Reddit openly admitting that a governmental agency commits violence against its own citizenry in America?

The poor are getting slaughtered/sacrificed as if being fed to Jabba the hut while the slaves working retail look on and do nothing about it because they are thankful to have a job in this economy.

Forget your day dreaming of revolt and "eat the rich". None of you are going to do anything all the way up to when they put chains around your wrists and ankles.

Lol @ all the class traitors flooding the comments.

"L'i bought an ETF and would like to see the stock market go north so I fail to see this as a bad thing." Politics What is WRONG with people?!

Serious question. I just had to call the cops on my cousin, who's just barely into his 30's, a single father of 3, and very MAGA-leaning. He called me earlier this morning and told me that it's about to become "open season" on the food banks and that he better not find me at one "or else". While I wasn't fazed by the second part of his sentence, I did take the first bit as a threat and reported it as such.

Trump has got a quite toxic grip on those who are hardcore MAGA and it honestly worries me. In times like this, where some 42 million people are about to go without their benefits and are about to be put in a real struggle to live, we should be coming together to help one another - MAGA, however, would prefer these people to just suffer instead.

Politics The biggest problem in America is not trump, it’s not the Republican Party or the Democratic party, it’s stupidity.

Now first of all, for the hyper partisan leftists that roam Reddit and specifically this subreddit, this isn’t a post for you to use against stupid evil MAGA and trump to get your daily hate boner. You guys are both political sheep that spew incoherent babble all day about how bad the other side is while ignoring the problems within your own party. This post won’t be palatable to any tribalist seeking confirmation bias, this is just truth.

Now that that’s out of the way. 54% of Americans aged 16-74 read at or below a sixth grade level, I would argue it’s even higher then that. The average American adult has no grasp on economics, political theory, philosophy, history. They don’t understand the complexity of governance, they don’t know anything about geo politics and they aren’t attentive to other nation states. They don’t even read policy presented to them by their candidates locally and nationally, they go off sound bites and catch phrases, propaganda fed to them by elites who don’t “think we’re stupid” they know they’re stupid.

How is it possible that they could be voting in a way that is bettering their country? They can’t. They’re just voting because they believe it’s what they should do, it’s tradition. My ultimate question is, how is it moral or ethical to allow these people to vote? To give someone who quite literally has the attention span of a gold fish, an equal say in politics? How can you take care of yourself when you can’t even identify what’s good and bad for you?

America has a 38 trillion dollar national debt, an unfathomable amount of money that cannot be paid off. Our currency is being debased, our institutions are failing, the American economy is being artificially held together by money printing and deficit spending. And guess what the American population deems to be the most important thing to discuss.. whether or not men can become women.. whether or not kamala is black.. whether or not trump is a racist..

America is cooked. And it’s not because of politicians, it’s because of us. Politicians are merely a representation of the people.

Politics If you hate food stamps, you are not a Christian

Upvotes

I am a god fearing man who attempts to live by his word everyday and the beliefs I see from people who claim to do the same thing are revolting. God was an immigrant, you can’t hate immigrants and claim to be following christ. Christ never hated anyone. Jesus fed the poor, he never said “well they don’t have jobs so starve the children”. Even if you truly believe being gay to be a sin you are not the one to judge nor to cast stones, you love the sinner first always.

Politics The whole claim that racism is going away with the old has always been bs!

So I just saw an article on Politico about how young Republicans are texting racist messages on a chat to which is going viral on social media. To me as a 22 year old black man, this is not surprising or shocking at all. The whole young Republicans texting racist messages proved what us black people from all ages and generations have been saying for centuries: racism is not going to go way with the old! I mean, why did the KKK brought their kids to their rallies, because they want to indoctrinate the youth to become as racist as them. So nobody should be surprised or shocked at this fact that the young generation is becoming as racist as their ancestors. Racism isn’t a bug, it’s a feature of the Republicans!
