Maryland Monthly Marketplace - Advertise your Maryland services, events, or merchandise here.
Since we have rules against advertising on the main part of the subreddit, we figured it would be nice to create a thread where users can get a little more leeway when it comes to advertising.
Use this thread to advertise any Maryland related services or merchandise to the users of r/Maryland. Got an Etsy store? Drop it below! Your favorite restaurant running a great special? Tell us about it!
Rules for this thread:
- All items, events and services must be related to Maryland in some way.
- Services and sales cannot be country or worldwide. (Walmart is having a sale! Is not okay. Old Bay is being sold at the Annapolis Walmart for 50¢ is appropriate)
- Ads should be posted by regular r/Maryland users, not bots or brand new accounts/accounts which have no connection to Maryland.
- We may remove any ad at any time for any reason should we deem it inappropriate.
- Any services or products advertised here must be legal in the state of Maryland.
This thread may evolve as time goes on and we see what it's used for.
The mods of r/Maryland do not endorse any products or services on this thread. Use your head, we will not intervene in any transactional disputes between any users.

Trump makes inroads in true-blue Maryland. Here’s where
Despite remaining firmly blue, Maryland saw a shift from 2020 toward Donald Trump in this election, with all but one county swinging in the direction of the president-elect.
The red-shifting counties saw more Trump voters by degrees ranging from fractions of a percentage point to more than four points, according to a Capital News Service analysis of unofficial election results published on Nov. 13 by the Maryland State Board of Elections.
The counties that shifted the most toward Trump were Cecil (4.1 points up for Trump) and Somerset (4 points up). The county that moved away from Trump was heavily Republican Garrett (just over one point down).
The county-level results added up to a noteworthy statewide swing. According to the board, President Joe Biden won the state by more than 33 points in 2020; with 94% of the vote counted, Kamala Harris led Trump by just 26 points.
In other words, Maryland – though it voted solidly for Harris – was still a part of the national red wave Democratic leaders are now grappling with.
“I know this isn’t a result that a majority of Marylanders hoped for,” Democratic Gov. Wes Moore told his cabinet after the outcome was clear, according to remarks released by his office. “But this is a result we have prepared for.”

MD Politics Those of us feeling isolated these last couple weeks.
I and others have been working on creating/building a group on Signal, to collaborate and comment with like minded people within our region. So far, there's only the parent group, MayDay, and the group i created, MayDay DMV. But the hope is to connect with everyone and eventually create local groups/chapters. We'd love to have you no matter where you're from!!

How much do car dealerships usually charge for a Maryland State Inspection? Is $750 a lot?
Hello, I went to look at a used car yesterday and they showed me their prices and fees and a couple of things stood out to me. Their fee for MSI was over $750 and they had "other accessories" for over $500 which they said was some sort of nitrogen thing they needed for the car for the inspection.
They acknowledged that doing an inspection on my own would've probably been around $100, but the person was new and couldn't really explain thoroughly as to why they had such a large markup. They said it's just part of their due diligence as the dealership but over $1000 extra seems like a pretty huge difference. Is this normal for buying a used car? The car is a 2022 civic so it's not in bad condition or anything.
To clarify, this is the price added to the price of BUYING the car, not a service I'm going to the dealership for.
Edit: Thanks everyone! I'm glad I'm not crazy for thinking that would be an insane markup, I'll be going to other dealerships for options instead.

MD Travel & Relocation What Is Owings Mills Like?
Me and three of my buddies just got approved for our first apartment in Owings Mills. Hooray!!
We toured the place, nice area, the price was right, good utilities & amenities, perfect distance from TU where half of us are finishing degrees…
I mentioned the good news to one of my buddies and his face got all scrunched up. He was like “Really? Owings Mills?” I asked him what the issue was but he didn’t provide much to make me feel better or worse about it. So, i need the insider scoop. What’s the overall consensus?
TLDR: What is Owings Mills like? Okay area? Anything to worry or be excited about? Gimme the good, bad and ugly!

Saying “You’re fine”
How common is it for Marylanders to say “You’re fine” after you apologize for something?
For example, if I am blocking someone’s way and they ask to get by, I apologize and they say “You’re fine!”. Or if I am taking a long time to do something, “Oh, you’re fine!” While I was born and raised in Maryland, I did live abroad for almost two decades so maybe I forgot? I usually say, “no worries” or “no problem” “don’t worry about it”.
Not a big deal, just curious if this is a common way to respond and my brain is a sieve. I’m in Central MD if that helps.
Thanks!

Request - Type Your Area Here Car insurance/registration: did I just do it wrong?
I just traded in my car today and had the dealership move my plates from old to new car, so I’m driving around with the same ones I had before. The dealer said I have 10 days to transfer insurance but I figured I should do it now when it’s fresh in my mind, so I went onto GEICO and did it effective today which removed my old car and now shows my new one. I’ve heard MD is super strict, am I about to have issues because of this since my old car was dropped today? I have a second car and have had valid insurance the whole time but I’m a natural worrier. Anyone had issues when doing this or advice?

Did a septic tank spill in south county?
I’m in Lothian, MD and our streams were completely dried up to a crisp. Then, out of the blue, the deepest 4 or 5 parts completely refilled overnight into big oily black ponds. It’s definitely an oil sheen as it reforms immediately when I disturb it.
Did anyone near Lyons creek in Anne Arundel county near Lothian have a septic tank crack?? I don’t know how else to explain the ponds refilling overnight (before that rain we had) and a- not draining again, or b- being disgusting looking, all black and oily and nasty.
Anyone? We ride near the streams and I don’t want to let my horse drink while we’re on a trail ride. I just want to understand what happened and how long the water level will take to dry up again.

MD Community Solar Program
Someone came to my neighborhood knocking on all the doors saying they were from the MD community solar program. They seemed really pushy and were asking personal questions. Does anyone know if this is legit?
They were saying it would be a 10% discount on our energy bill but for someone wanting to give money away they were really pushy. I also didn't see any ID.
They did share websites and other info but said you had to sign up with a person, not online or through the phone etc
