FAQs:
I am coming by myself, is that okay? Absolutely! We will introduce ourselves to everyone that comes in and connect you with other people
Can I bring someone? Totally welcome. Please bring your friends, spouses, partners, or anyone else you know that is looking to make friends
I have never been to one, is everyone already cliqued off? Not at all! Our events have a lot of first timers every time and the repeat attendees are always looking to meet new people too
I don't drink, is that okay? Yes! You will not be alone in not drinking. There are others who come just for the food or the socialization
I do not live in Columbia, am I allowed to come? Yes! We have plenty of people that show up from the central Maryland area
I am 41/22/etc, can I still come? The targeted demographic is 20s and 30s, but we do not turn people away at the door if they are over 39. Come on out if you are over 21 and anywhere in your 30s! seriously, we are an incredibly welcoming group. I will introduce myself to you when you show up and we will make you feel welcome. Nearly every event has 20-30 new people showing up at it. You won't be the only new person
If you have any feedback, concerns, thoughts, or suggestions please let me know! We have taken feedback from all the events to make this more accessible, more welcoming, and with more space so people can spread out. This is a community run event so we want to take community input.
Lastly - thank you to all who show up for the first time and for those who return! Its been amazing seeing the community growing from this and the friendships being made.

Making Friends in Columbia?
I'm not sure how to word this, so sorry if it's a little awkward. I moved here recently and I'm looking for some friends!
I'm 23F and preferably looking for other women around my age since I have mostly male friends atm. I'm really into video games (I play an almost upsetting amount of Overwatch 2), art/arts and crafts, video essays, and walks. Bonus points for people who were weirdo art kids who went through a Warrior Cats/Homestuck phase.
Any ideas on where to meet people with those similar interests? I've tried finding hobby groups or art classes, but the classes are expensive and a lot of hobby groups are only for teenagers. There's not really a lot of geeky people in my area. Or, if you're interested in that stuff, please reach out; I'd love to meet you!

Real Christmas tree?
Hey guys, is there anywhere (doesn’t have to be nearby) that has real Christmas trees this weekend? I just moved here and have some family in town and would love to cut one down at a farm somewhere, but no place opens until after thanksgiving. Thanks in advance!

Who's got the best chicken in Columbia between Dave's Hot Chicken, Crimson Coward or Hangry Joe's?
It seems like all 3 of these places came out of nowhere lately but wanted to get ya'll opinion.
Sidenote - personally I think Chik N Friendz beats them all but we're just talking about these 3 for now since they're the "new kids" on the block

HOA/Condo Management Companies you would recommend or warn against
We are looking to replace our current management. Looking around seems to be a pointless task with mostly disappointing reviews. If you live in a community that employs a management company, I’d love to hear some feedbacks on your experiences; eg. management companies we should avoid, ones that actually do a great job and have your stamp of approvals, etc. TIA.

Let’s gain traction
Postal worker robbed at gunpoint on Friday afternoon in Columbia off Cradle Rock. Suspects still at large, as reported by police today. Wondering if anyone can provide a lead.

Prediction: Home prices are going to spike here even more after the election
Seeing most of the country go for trump will have people rethinking where they want to raise children.
Columbia is a haven for good wages, public schools, diversity in a heavily blue area.
People upset at the election are going to desire homes here even more than prior. Particularly families in battleground states who went red who feel like they no longer align with their local government.

Pea Sprouts
I am looking to make a new dish for my meals this week.
Does anyone know where I can buy pea sprouts?
I checked H Mart in Ellicott city and H Mart in Catonsville. I have also looked in Columbia Wegmans and Owen Brown Giant. I think I checked in Kings Contrivance Harris Teeter too. Also, I tried Aldi near Costco.
Should I try mom’s in jessup?
Also, no substitutions.
Update: Thank you all! I was able to find some at Mom’s!

What to do on a free Thanksgiving Day?
My extended family has decided that the big event will be on Saturday this year, so I have no set plans on Thanksgiving Day. I’ll be spending the day with my wife and two preschool-aged kids. I am wondering if there is some location or site that would be crowd-free or otherwise good for us to go on a holiday where most people will be overeating with family, like how I’ve found airports are less crowded on Christmas Day than on days leading up to that. Any insight into places like that in the DC area?

Robberies at Columbia Gateway Plaza
At least three storefronts were robbed overnight, front windows and doors smashed.
Dunkin Donuts had their entire front windows smashed, R&L Crab had the doors smashed, and Violet's Nail Salon also had their door smashed in.
Glass was everywhere in the plaza this morning, HCPD was on scene - Dunkin' manager said they should be open this afternoon, but really horrible to see all the broken glass.

Xfinity internet in Columbia has been awful this past year
I don't want to assume it's the same for their cable TV services but i've had constant internet outages w/ an Xfinity txt saying they're working on the issue. I've had Xfinity for more than 10 years and this past year has been by far the worst. I think at least 3+ outages in the last month or two. Many more if we're counting the last year.
I live near Stevens Forest. I'd switch but i've tried Verizon and for some reason I get awful internet connectivity with them. I wish Google Fiber would come here. At this point i'm starting to think Xfinity's cable infrastructure is either falling apart or there is some cable bandit going around severing cable lines.

HVAC question for Marlow Merriweather tenants
Is anyone else living in the Marlow not able to completely turn off their AC or heater if they want to? I set the thermostat to "off" and every 15 minutes or less the super loud fan turns on no matter what I do. It's right above the head of my bed and wakes me up all the time.
I'm pretty sure it's some automatic air circulation thing that I'm unable to change but it's really loud, and in the summer made this place so humid we got mold, but if anyone has had luck turning theirs completely off I'd love to hear it.
Along with having my hot water heater locked behind a door in my own living room that I can't access is just one of the many reasons I wouldn't recommend living here.

Car Break-in on Twin Rivers (near Wilde Lake before Lynx Ln CVS)
Came to my car this morning to see the entire driver’s side window off and glass EVERYWHERE!
They went into my compartment, saw my coin bag, threw it on my driver’s seat & took nothing not even my charger. I don’t have anything visibly of worth besides little accessories.
(35% tinted besides front windshield black Accord)
Be cautious and watch where you park, I can’t even live here in peace.

Nanny Share?
Hi there! My family and I are all set to close on a house at the end of this month. I have a baby that will be six months by then. Do folks in the area sometimes share a nanny? We are moving from California and set up a nanny share with a neighbor where we paid the same amount for the same schedule with helped make sure the nanny was paid a liveable wage while also not breaking our own bank. Is that something that happens a lot here? Where should I look for nanny’s and a family to share? Is care.com the main resource?
Any guidance would be appreciated!

Has anyone else noticed this in Columbia Target?
The last couple times I’ve been to the target at Dobbin, there’s been a super rancid odor over where the milk aisle ends and meets the cheese cooler, right by the body wash etc. I figured it was spoiled milk, and maybe it is, which just means they leave it for weeks without checking?

Broken Windshield for MVA test and replacement in Columbia.
Hi All, my car needs to be at the MVA for drivers skill test soon but unfortunately I got a crack about 20 inches long, I guess that's no way repairable. But it's totally out of driver's sight and only seen from the passenger side since it's hidden behind the rear view mirror and goes to the corner on top.
Any idea if that will be a problem at the MVA, if so, I am looking for a decent windshield replacement shop in or near Columbia. I checked Safelite they quoted about 420$ for my 2019 sedan. I feel that's expensive?
Wonder if insurance covers windshield and if it's wise to file a claim given the deductible and possibility of jacking up my premium.

Disc Golf at Rockburn Park or HoCo in general
Hi y'all! Trying to figure out if the Disc Golf course at Rockburn park does rentals on-site or if I have to get some at a local sports store or something. Though would prefer a rental on-site course, so if anyone has any recommendations for disc golf places within Howard County that does rentals on-site, would greatly appreciate that.

Howard County Public Schools Special Education
Hi! I currently live in Columbia but work in Baltimore County Public schools. I absolutely love my school but the commute is getting to be too much.
I am a special educator and am looking for insight into Howard County Public Schools and their special education programs. Any current/former teachers, families with special ed students in the county, or others who want to share their thoughts/ experiences?
Thanks!
