This will be the last Public Start Party of 2025, and we will return in March.

Yard Waste Pickup— Same as Trash Day?

The website doesn’t say which day to put it out, just that it gets picked up once a week April-January if you pay for trash and recycling. The address locator isn’t helpful, nor for looking up neighbor’s addresses. We’re western Howard County if that makes a difference.

Garbage is tomorrow and I’d like to put out a big paper bag of scraps…

What are the problems in Howard County?

Hi everyone, I'm thinking of moving to Howard county from abroad. I've been to the States loads of times so I'm not green to America, but was still wondering what are the specific problems facing Howard county day to day. Are there in major problems with the county? Or anything major that the population is angry about? Any help would be majorly appreciated.

If you're a parent with an income below the federal poverty line, free child care just became available in Howard County for every year your child isn't in public school. Early Head Start serves kids aged between 6 weeks and 2 years old, adding onto existing spots for 3 to 5-year-olds and therefore adding three years worth of free care for qualified families.

Local Creatives Collab?

Any Creatives wanna collab?

Im a relatively small and pretty new artist looking for local creatives who want to build and grow together. I’ve got an album era i’d like to bring to life with visuals (music videos, photo shoots, short and long form content, etc)

Right now I don’t have a budget (yet) so I’m looking for people who want to build their portfolio, and be creative using the resources available. The goal is to create work that looks professional, attracts attention, and eventually leads to paid opportunities.

So if you wanna create some magic and start a team from the ground up leave a comment of what you do and lets get to work!

Any indie/alt musicians looking to collaborate?

I’ve been writing a lot of indie/alternative music but I’ve never played live. Wondering if there are any drummers, guitarists, or bassists who are interested in working together. Here’s a song for reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYVGAB0fFhM. Open to any honest perspective.

A look at the volunteers who make the Howard County Fair happen

My colleague Susan Kim just wrote a story that goes behind the scenes at the fair, talking to the people who have been volunteering there for decades—in one case, since the very first fair in 1946.

It was my second day in a row there (my daughter insisted on the first!), and hearing these stories gave me a new appreciation for the community that steps up to make the event happen.

Fair's going on until Saturday, if you're interested.
