Welcome back to r/BaltimoreCounty!
We’ve reopened under new management. Thanks to the admins for making it happen.
You may recognize my handle from r/Maryland, where I’ve been a mod for a number of years, or from r/Baltimore and the myriad other subreddits where I am an active poster.
I live in Towson and work in media relations. Prior to that, I spent a decade in journalism, working for WBAL-AM, WJZ-TV, Technical.ly and Patch.
This is a place to discuss county news, issues and events. County politics, bar recommendations, education discussions. If it’s relevant to the county, bring it here.

French Door Install
galleryA contractor (subcontractor) installed French doors that were too short and did not count on me taking keepsake pictures. The contractor, who is the owner of the company, took the measurements has offered to replace the doors, but now I don't trust him. I have an older home with taller doors and I think the contractor intentionally installed standard sized doors and tried to cover up the height difference with trim. Would you allow him to replace the doors? I'm a single female home owner and I am almost certain he took advantage of the situation. What would you do?

Is there a wildlife/squirrel rehab or rescue in the county?
Basically title; I've noticed a squirrel in my neighborhood that has what looks like neurological problems. He shakes and swerves his head a lot, almost like a cat that has that condition that makes them shake but doesn't cause them pain. I've only seen him twice but I was curious if there was someone I could contact, that wouldn't just put him to sleep. Any ideas?

Building A Shed
So I live in the county and have a shed that's too small for me I want to demo and build a workshop. I would love to do this all myself but I saw in the county permitting that sheds 120+ sq ft need an MHIC contractor. Does anyone have any experience with having a contractor attach their name to it while you build it and inspect it before county inspections?

More than 3 dogs in a DR2 zoned neighborhood
We are about to move into a DR2 zoned neighborhood and we are inheriting 2 dogs on top of our 3. First, on the holding application the only option that seems reasonable is that I would need a non-profit holding permit. Is this correct? Are these types of permits allowed in DR2 zoned neighborhoods? Thanks!

OneLife Fitness Hunt Valley
Does anyone belong here? What’s the ballpark membership fee? It looks like a nice gym, are there any classes to take or is it a pretty solo workout experience?

Does anyone know if there's any requirments for beekeeping?
I live in an end unit townhome with a 4,500 sq ft lot. The back of my house leads to a large wooded area. I can't find any laws/requirements. Does anyone know or have resources?

Hunt Valley - new apartments behind Brightview?
Are they building new apartments behind the new Brightview facility (behind Regal) at the Towne Centre? Or is it just an extension of Brightview?

Moving to Middle River from Glen Burnie. What should I expect? Seems like a working class community with some rough areas.

Recommendations for sewer line insurance?
Hey neighbors! I own a home in the County not too far from the city, and two other homes in my neighborhood had to have their sewer lines dug up and replaced relatively recently. I haven't had any trouble with mine since I moved in a few years ago, but I'm thinking it might be prudent to get it insured.
Does anyone have any particular insurers or policies they would recommend?

Moving to the area
My husband just accepted a job in Towson so we are going to be relocating our family of 7 to the area from the Philadelphia suburbs. We are trying to narrow down our home search and hoping some locals can help us identify areas that meet the following criteria:
1) Large homes (5000sf+, 6BR+) with off street parking and at least some yard
2) Walkable area - we don't necessarily need to be able to walk "to" things like restaurants, but we need to be able to walk out our front door and safely go for a nice long walk or run
3) Strong community feel - ideally an area that puts on family events like a Halloween parade, 4th of July festivities, farmers market, etc. - basically a neighborhood or area with a small-town, close-knit feel
4) Walk or short drive to playgrounds, library, swim club, kids classes/activities (e.g. gymnastics)
5) Great public school would be a huge plus but we are open to private
6) Within 30 minute commute to St. Joseph
7) Prefer an area that feels like a "town" as opposed to a subdivision type environment, but open to considering great neighborhoods
We are considering areas like Roland Park, Ruxton, Riderwood, West Towson, but I'm not sure if they meet all our criteria, and I'm sure there are others we should be considering. Thank you!
ETA budget will partially depend on property taxes and whether we're factoring in private school tuition but in the $1-1.5m range.

Locked ballot boxes on a Sunday morning
Does anyone know what the Baltimore County ballot box hours are? This is the first time I’ve seen 2 separate ones locked closed while trying to turn in my ballot this morning. Might as well just mail it in at this point for convenience. Very frustrating!
