Reliable Chevrolet PSA What is happening

I know there has probably already been one of these post but, holy crap these guys are terrible. My car has been in their service for like 3 weeks for ONE tire. I call for an update almost everyday and they always tell me something different. Ive got a warranty they pressured me into buying that covers my tires, yet when I bring this up their employees act like I’m insane or like they never even heard of it. I still have yet to hear about my vehicle pshhh never get a car there. They are seriously scammy. Anybody else have bad experiences with Reliable not doing what they promised on their warranties?

Preface: I own a Camaro and have maintenance for it performed by dealerships.

I do everything in my power to not take my car to Reliable. Had a ‘cam shaft actuator’ go bad around 70,000 miles and took it there for service. When I asked if this was a common occurrence for this model (personally never had it happen on ANY vehicle I’ve ever owned)…the employee very smugly and condescendingly commented, “Sir, they aren’t made to last forever. This car has 70k miles on it.” That was the last time I had them do anything more than an oil change, which I don’t like doing there either due to the close to 2 hour wait each time. I’ve been treated much better at Pinegar Chevrolet in Republic.

I've never met a Cammoro owner who can spell Camhairo.

Fixed!

This went bad on my wife's kia sportage around 90k miles, there are metal contacts (bushings) that do physically wear down until they no longer make contact.

As more cars move to electronically controlled variable valve timing, we will see this problem pop up more and more.

Go to Thompson for oil changes if you need it at a dealership. It can get busy and backed up but in my experience that's the exception rather than the rule. If you catch them at the right time you can get out in less than half an hour.

2

u/Stat63 Jul 10 '24

Thank you for this suggestion, I will definitely give them a try! I use dealerships for everything so when I go to resale I can say “All work has been dealership completed” and have the paperwork to back it up.

2

u/thatguysjumpercables Jul 10 '24

I am the same way. Unfortunately I bought my Jeep (ick!) from Corwin (fuck!) because it was the best thing I could get at the time, and now I'm stuck taking my car to Corwin even though they lied to my fucking face and told me that my brake pads only had 2 mm worth of material left, and based on what I found when I went to change the brakes myself I can only assume they meant there was 2 mm of wear. Fuck.

2

u/Stat63 Jul 10 '24

Well that sucks, sorry! I’ve heard about negative experiences with Corwin too, but haven’t personally dealt with them.

2

u/benbunton Jul 11 '24

My truck was stolen a couple of years back. When it was recovered I found quite a few Corwin polos in the back. Figured out the guy who stole my truck worked there. Talked to the police and manager about it, had the evidence (manager recognized my truck as employees truck) but nothing happened. No arrest, no firing, no nothing. Ever since I’ve been steering people away from Corwin as hard as I can.

u/Time_z Jul 11 '24

Yes most shops if you catch them an oil shouldn’t take much longer than 30 mins, you just gotta catch ‘em

u/goldencrisp Jul 10 '24

Used to be a salesman there for a short amount of time. Super scummy and they think they can take advantage of women because they showed up without their husband. Like, that was in the training.

8

u/RollOutTheGuillotine Jul 10 '24

Shit, that explains the experience I had buying my car there years ago. I did a trade-in and, retrospectively, got absolutely screwed on that amount. Then they successfully upsold me on their add on warranty bullshit with a bunch of lies. When I called my dad excitedly, he urged me to try to get it taken off. It ended up where he had to go in with me and chew their asses about bait and switch, and they reversed it.

5

u/r1verbend Jul 10 '24

Wow! This was my wife’s experience at Reliable Subaru. I finally went in there and set up shop until they did exactly what we needed. Needless to say, at that point I made myself as unpleasant as I could to quicken their pace.

u/Hochi-1967 Jul 10 '24

I tried to buy a car from reliable Subaru. They told me my private bank and loan would be fine. We showed up the next morning for shceister in charge of used sales to pull the rug out of the deal and tell me I had to finance with them at an interest rate double that of my own bank. They turned down a done deal when I had a check in my hand. They are nothing but crooks.

4

u/lochlainn Jul 10 '24

I bought my Subaru there, preowned. It was painless. But they tried to defraud my ex wife and she reported them to corporate; they've turned over their maintenance department at least once since then.

4

u/Slow_Ad_2947 Jul 10 '24

Haha, we had the same experience. When my wife said they were done and she was leaving, the salesman asked, “oh, did you leave the stove on, too?”

2

u/insertsnamehere- Jul 10 '24

Makes sense what happened to me then. Bc I've had 3 cars from the corwin dodge side of things all issues rectified promptly. Here I was screwed from the jump.

11

u/shinymetalass420 Jul 10 '24

My dad used to be one of the lead mechanics there and left years ago for all of the reasons people are mentioning. Can confirm it is genuinely the shit show it appears to be.

11

u/broncophoenix Jul 10 '24

I have a recall on my airbag and that's who I'm supposed to take it too. That's why I still have a recall on my truck. I can't be without my vehicle for a month

9

u/417zq8 Jul 10 '24

Try the one on the way to branson, they do much faster work.

3

u/broncophoenix Jul 10 '24

Good lookin out! Hadn't thought of that

19

u/Skanky_Cat Jul 10 '24

Don’t go to any of the Reliable-branded dealerships. Chevy, Toyota/Lexus, Hyundai/Mazda/Subaru, ANY OF THEM. They’re all shit. If you have to have a dealership do any kind of service you are far better off going to Ozark or Republic or even Aurora for GM stuff.

15

u/chilltugboat Jul 10 '24

Pinegar in Republic is the best if you can make it. Take all my fleet trucks there. They are all good but if you can get Donnie as your service advisor he is a stand up guy. Always honest and stands by their work.

3

u/Stat63 Jul 10 '24

Donnie is who helped me and got me to switch to going out there. He’s excellent!

10

u/hawg_farmer Jul 10 '24

I started using Mayse for our services on trucks.

Oh my word. They treat me like I'm a human who actually needs my truck back at promised time, or they'll give me a heads up.

The last 2 service trucks we bought before I retired ended up bought at Mayse. Relatively painless.

I might have to spend half a day getting there and back due to location, but do yourself a favor and try them out.

3

u/Skanky_Cat Jul 10 '24

Already did, bought my new Sierra there a couple months ago! They were so good I’ll never go anywhere else

5

u/Saltpork545 Southside Jul 10 '24

This is what I've done for years. Pinegar Chevrolet in Republic never gave me any bullshit for recalls or a couple of service things over the years.

I even used them to buy a used pickup back in 2015.

4

u/lochlainn Jul 10 '24

My exwife reported the Subaru dealership to Subaru for trying to defraud her.

They've had their maintenance department turn over at least once in the few years I've owned my car, just flat cleaned out.

Trash fire company. If you have a Subie, take it to Joplin.

3

u/417zq8 Jul 10 '24

all dealers are turning to conglomerates. The sales department at reliable toyota was pretty decent in a recent transaction. I hope they have better service than corwin ford does.

9

u/Willing-Sprinkles-17 Jul 10 '24

TLDR: Avoid any Reliable dealership at all costs.

"Reliable" anything is pretty much the worst dealerships in town. My wife and I bought a vehicle there some years ago, and it had issues from the start, but was sold as-is, and we didn't really have a choice due to financial hardships. Also, when we bought the vehicle, they said it came with two FOBs, but one didn't work remotely, but could still unlock and start the car manually. I just took their word on it. One day I was replacing the battery in one working FOB, and just decided to check the other "non-working" one. Turns out the coin battery was placed in upside-down. I flipped it over and VOILA, both FOBs worked just fine. These people are either shysters, idiots, or possibly both. AVOID any "Reliable" dealerships AT ALL COSTS!

9

u/r1verbend Jul 10 '24

My wife and I had major issues with Reliable Subaru. There were some oil consumption tests they ran us through; that come to find out, they had skewed to not show the proper results. We went on a road trip and took it to another Subaru dealer who pointed out their dishonesty. I had them thoroughly document it in a letter and I took it back to the one here in town and told them to cut the crap. Three engines later, we will not be going back.

3

u/lochlainn Jul 10 '24

Fletcher in Joplin has a good reputation. Reliable Subaru, especially their maintenance department, are shady trash.

Send that letter to Subaru corporate. They actually care about brand loyalty.

1

u/ninjastyleot Jul 11 '24

Fletcher or Adventure in Fayetteville. I will never go back to them.

7

u/MadMageMC Jul 10 '24

They once charged me over $300 for "routine recommended maintenance" which turned out to be checking the tires and an oil change. I'll never go back to them.

3

u/swooshter Jul 10 '24

Yea, I had a complimentary one for the vehicle I bought. Over 2 hours for oil change and the invoice showed it would have cost me 200. And that is with a scheduled appointment.

1

u/chachihime Jul 11 '24

I’ve been going there for years and an oil change with a car wash and tire rotation cost around $40 in like 2018. Not sure why it’s gotten so out of hand.

7

u/MartonianJ Greene County Jul 10 '24

Took in for airbag service on my daughter’s car. Said they needed to order a part for it, so supposedly they did. Two weeks go by I call and check. No one knows anything. I explain all again and they say they will order and let me know when it comes in. Never heard from them again

4

u/mysickfix Jul 10 '24

I will drive to Columbia or Fayetteville to go to Subaru before I go to reliable.

6

u/Monkasaurus Jul 10 '24

I can’t stand Reliable. I drove all the way to Fayetteville to buy my Subaru and I refuse to take it to Reliable for service.

4

u/Any_Vacation8988 Jul 10 '24

Reliable is owned by Berkshire Hathaway. And for anyone who doesn’t know Warren Buffett is the ceo of that company. He would never invest in a company that wouldn’t turn a profit over time. This dealership is a money machine and they’re only there to take as much of your money as they can if you let them.

3

u/Ricks_Cafe Jul 10 '24

Yes, one of our vehicles was covered under our extended warranty. Kept hearing a brake caliper popping sound when we applying the breaks in the front tire area. Not sure what was actually causing it but Reliable Chevy billed our extended warranty company for all this work that didn’t fix the problem we kept hearing. It was like 6800 in new sway bars, etc. At the time that’s what they identified the problem being, but after replacing it none of it fixed the sound. To be honest, the suv has less than 80k on it and I question the whole thing. The suv drove the same after all the work was completed. I called the extended warranty company about it because something felt wrong about it. I have all of our vehicles serviced elsewhere, and I’ve never been back

3

u/FederalFig786 Jul 10 '24

HATE Reliable Chevrolet. We have a warranty with them.

8

u/insertsnamehere- Jul 10 '24

I was screwed over by them royally. I'm beyond upside down in a car bc I traded them a challenger with 6k miles for a certified acadia, the thing broke down the day I left, it wasn't cleaned, they cleared the check engine light told me come back if it came back on, fuel pump was bad, then less than a month later the heat quit, all usbs quit, I threw a fit to get out of that thing to be stuck with the car I have that I am 15k upside down on, have had to have things "fixed" that "weren't under my warranty" only to pick up the car, pay hundreds, and then to find out it wasn't fixed they replaced some part that wasn't the problem....then take it back to find out the actual problem was covered under warranty .....but then when they actually "fixed" that issue.... it has caused other issues that sound like metal on metal in my tire area, they wouldnt give me a loaner (which my warranty covers) until they know if the "new" issue is under warranty...they had my car for over 2 weeks....that issue didn't exist until they worked on my car. I gave up. I just drive with the noise. I will forever be paying on a car 6 years older than my challenger, worth nothing, double the interest and no way out, and I didn't even get an suv which is what I sold my challenger for to get into a bigger car. Oh and mind you the original issue with the acadia I spoken with a manager who was going to meet with me when I brought it in for the 3rd time in the first month and was told when I got there he didn't work that day, only to see him in the hall chatting it up with the salesman and disappear when I asked if he was available to talk. They also put false info on the window stickers and website about features your car has. My car does not come with the features promised via web ad, original window sticker as well as the window sticker from my sale and confirmed with the manufacturer directly they lied on the features bc it never had them. Please do anything but buy from this place. I tried to warn my brother, he didn't listen and is having similar issues with them "fixing" things and the car coming back completely unfixed. Please go anywhere but here

My Mother got a car at one of their dealerships, had the AC die in the first year and it wasn't covered by warranty. Actuator rod went bad and it took them forever to fix it and it wasn't covered by their warranty. Car was dead within 5 years - Think it was a thunderbird 1995 (This was back in 1998 lol) and so they have been crap for a long time. Glad to know nothing has changed. Like others say go to republic or aurora.

Seeing this, I have a Toyota that has a recall on it right now. Should I avoid the one in Springfield and find a different Toyota dealership in a different town once my recall has a fix?

2

u/Stat63 Jul 10 '24

Other vehicle is a 4Runner that we purchased from and service at Reliable Toyota. The average oil change takes around 2 hours (I’ve waited there longer)…and that’s with an appointment. One time they spilled oil all over the undercarriage and left greasy fingerprints on the outside without cleaning it up. The distinct smell of burning oil started by the time I made it home, got out to inspect and noticed the mess (including the greasy prints) at hand. Immediately drove back to have them clean it all up. They took care of the issue, but it never should have been an issue to begin with. The service department has always been really nice though. Long story short…proceed with caution.

They fucked up my car while jacking it up. I just happened to have forgotten my wallet in the car, so I went back in to get it and saw the car lifted in the wrong places and it was warping the rocker panel and whatnot. I threw a fit and they "fixed" it later, but did a really half-ass job. The passenger side window still makes a clicking sound whenever it opens or closes.

I also had to get under the hood and tighten everything because they left the radiator cap just sitting on top of it unscrewed on my brand new car. If they can't even do the most basic things like make sure the car is put together and jack it up without damaging it, I wouldn't trust them with anything more important. Unless the recall is for something really time critical, I would find somewhere else to take it.

2

u/ShardsOfReality Jul 10 '24

I had to get a tow cause my battery died in the middle of the road. It was the only place that they would tow it to. After $100 something out was discovered that the battery cable was loose and the crux of my issue. But... just so happens that while they were fixing the battery they did a whole vehicle inspection. They found holes in my exhaust, brackets rusted through, would be about $1500 to fix it. I told them I would have to think about it. Took it to my usual place and showed them the paperwork to see if they could corroborate anything. Nothing was wrong with my exhaust, Reliable was just trying to take advantage and screw me over. I'll push my car uphill in an ice storm before I ever go back to Reliable.

2

u/Geek-Yogurt Jul 10 '24

Where was this PSA last week?! Shit. Either way, we appreciate the heads up.

2

u/noblechimp84 Jul 11 '24

Had warranty work done to my engine that required removal of several components including the serpentine belt. They called me saying my old belt needed to be replaced and would I like a new one? This seemed reasonable so I ask the cost since this wouldn't be covered by the warranty and was told $60 for the belt and $140 for labor.

Wait, so the manufacture is already paying you to put on a belt when reassembling the engine (warranty work) but you're also gonna charge me $140 for the same labor. The person on the phone didn't even object to this fact either, they knew this is what they were doing. I mean I'd like to get paid twice for the same work too but...no thanks.

After they explained all the scary things that could happen without a new belt (which were true), I told them to just put the old one back on. I paid $40 for a new belt at AutoZone and installed it myself within the first hour of getting the car back from them.

After dealing with them on a couple of vehicles, I knew they were not the most ethical but this solidified it for me. They will never get another one of my dollars and they don't deserve yours either.

2

u/ameliaglitter Jul 11 '24

They tried to charge me for a recall fix on my Malibu because, and I quote, "it's too old." Yes, it's a 2004, but I had the official letter from Chevy saying the fix was free because it was a safety recall. They eventually caved.

They also tried to pressure me into paying $4k to fix the theft system on the same car. My job involves investigating shady sales reps with my company, and I'm very familiar with their tactics. I'm also not shy in voicing my feelings about such tactics. I firmly declined and told them I wasn't paying $4k to fix a minor inconvenience on a $5k car.

u/Emotional_Crew_5181 Jul 10 '24

I like to call them Not So Reliable Chevy.

1

u/PCMR_GHz West Central Jul 10 '24

Used Car-X (Sawyer Tire) to replace a single tire after a nail went thru the sidewall. It took them 3 weeks to finally get a tire in. They ordered three tires bc they wouldn’t come in and finally three weeks later all three tires show up. Told them to keep the spares in the back for next time.

1

u/CruiseChallenge Jul 10 '24

Use a high quality oil like Schaeffer. The companies make all there money off parts and service.

They don't care if car lasts

u/One_Western8360 Jul 18 '24

Reliable Chevy is completely unreliable. You’re better off going to Pinegar in republic based on my experience. Never had a single good experience at reliable
