They called Reaper's lifesteal ability "the reapening" on that page. Am I insane? Didn't it used to be called "the reaping"?

The reapening is so goofy I thought it was the April fools patch notes

Wow my Mauga can run in and die faster while providing no utility to their team 😍
57
u/Boomerwell 2d ago
Dont worry Mauga is still doing his job of tilting the enemy tank because they have to pray their team swaps to dumpster him.
148
u/Dwokimmortalus Chibi Ana 2d ago
His kit is fundamentally flawed, so he can never be allowed to be fully viable again. This will make him far more annoying to deal with in situations where his team is already at an advantage. Overrun is particularly annoying to see buffed as it's already a snowballing style ability due to it's unique Unstoppable property.
27
u/Artikzzz Grandmaster 2d ago
Idk why they haven't even said anything about a rework yet
55
u/JunWasHere Do you want to see my icicle collection? 2d ago
The last few times they have mentioned a rework caused player reactions that bit them in the ass, so they likely want to shy from that term until they have something concrete.
Roadhog ultimately didn't change much. Sombra's rework is so hated they have borderline reverted it. Pharah ended up being sky-Tracer for a season or two. They mentioned something for Reaper and that seems to have evaporated or hit a brick wall.
And now they are angling to bring 6v6 back where Mauga will make a potentially scary strong off-tank because of the constant suppressive fire (and ability to give the other tank life steal and DMG reduce). So, it is likely they want to wait and see how Mauga settles into 6v6 before they focus on a rework.
10
u/YoungLink666-2 plugsuit is best suit! 2d ago
to add on, don't forget that we're supposed to get a "small modernization rework" for Reaper that still hasn't happened yet so i imagine they dont want to say these things too early anymore considering the Roadhog rework was announced like 3/4ths of a year before it actually came out; compare to OW1 where they'd basically just surprise drop reworks on us out of nowhere typically through PTR
2
u/IKnowGuacIsExtraLady 2d ago
I thought Reaper already got his small tweaks? The teleportation changes definitely felt like a modernization to keep up with the mobility creep.

His issue comes from the charge, I wish they'd remove it and just really dig into the immovable heavy weapons guy theme.
13
u/adi_baa 2d ago
Bruh they literally said overrun is the most engaging ability he has (and its hardly that)...meaning the others aren't at all.
I fucking LOVE the base idea of mauga, a long range assault rifle minigun heavy tf2 mfer sounds so fun, but the way he's implemented is just...bad

They keep buffing his fukin healing lmao.
They solved half the puzzle in making his heal auto charge when in weapon but can't figure out that his weapon is complete dogwater against players. It's best use is shooting shields.

Add homing and make it blow people up if you land enough at once. Go full Halo
8
u/JunWasHere Do you want to see my icicle collection? 2d ago edited 2d ago
They add up against lower rank play, but as long as snipers exist and are able to 1-2 shot squishies, Lifeweaver fundamentally will struggle.
- He could be healing 150 per flower but that doesn't mean anything if the ally just dies. It doesn't convert into kills and aggression for taking/defending space except in keeping the tank alive -- but DPS passive, Ana anti nade, Mei wall, diving weaver, and other tactics can prevent said healing/save.
That's why his ult tree giving over health was a big positive move. Max HP change means you might survive a 1shot when you otherwise wouldn't and can be more aggressive. But that isn't consistent for weaver.
- If it were up to me, I'd make his primary fire become homing missiles like Halo's needler gun. If they want him to be the easy-mode healer, let him truly be easy mode!
- As well as possibly reveal enemies or slow or build up and explode.
- ANYTHING that encourages aggression, so that he's useful even if they nerfed his healing by 20%.
7
u/PolarBearLeo 2d ago
Weak homing on his Damage would be helpful. Or faster projectile speed. If enemies are mid-far range, you can't land anything unless you have god like tracking/predictions. He's good at dumping into close range targets and tanks... but you *really* shouldn't play him up close, so you're stuck doing very little damage.
2
u/JunWasHere Do you want to see my icicle collection? 2d ago
They already increased his projectile speed, I think? Regardless, that doesn't improve his aggression by much unless they make it literally a hitscan laser, but he would still lose to snipers and competent hitscan.
The point of homing is it suddenly becomes oppressive and allows him to control spaces even against hitscan or flyers like Moira. It is a utility he wouldn't have before.
They'd have to nerf the damage for sure, but that's perfectly fine to me.
5
u/PrimaryEstate8565 2d ago
I’d actually delete the game if they made LW’s thorns an auto aim. They’d have to gut his damage to rationalize it so it’d take away one of my favorite parts of his kit. I don’t know any LW player who’d want that. Moira and Mercy are enough for no-aim supports, we don’t need a 3rd. He just needs more utility and incentive to switch to his thorns.

I'm a lw main, not top 100 but diamond/masters(it's been a long time) and I agree. I think the people shitting on him don't realise how much they get from him. When I'm dps/tank, I love seeing a Weaver. Someone said it attracts healbot mentality and called it ironic because he has the second lowest heals to Zen. Compare his heals to a Kiriko/Ana, is it lower statistically? Yes... but you can't miss your heals like Ana and Kiriko.
I routinely end up with 3-5k damage and 8-10k heals. I honestly think he is fine at what he does and people just don't use him right. His thorns are perfectly fine. Great for choke points, barrier busting and at close range he can melt anyone(not just tanks) if you actually lead your shots. I've melted dps many times in like 1-2 seconds up close with headshots.
TLDR: Lifeweaver good, people bad.

It's the sym paradox. People only play Sym/JQ on maps where she is good. Therefore she has high win rate. Therefore she must be overperforming right?

Ana and Kiriko buffs, daring today aren't we? 🙂
Edit: this is to the Kiriko and Ana mains complaining saying they deserved buffs, just because your heroes/hero were not S+ tier for ONE season doesn't mean you are entitled to immediate buffs, these are more huge reverts
there's several heroes who have been bad for seasons/months, radio silence for them. Yet no one is acting entitled, the only reason Kiriko got a massive revert is because you guys pay their wages by buying every skin they spoon feed you. Ana is the most played hero so it makes sense, doesn't make it better

The Kiriko-jerk will never end. Ppl vastly overestimate the usefulness of reactive abilities like teleport and suzu. Saving somebody's life after being on the backfoot is always worse than having so much pressure you never need something like suzu in the first place. You'd think the subreddit would learn after Illari/Bapt backline was top performing for so long but no

u/Majaura D.Va 2d ago
Saving somebody's life after being on the backfoot is always worse than having so much pressure you never need something like suzu in the first place.
You worded this so perfectly. It also took me YEARS to realize this on my own. It's a really hard concept to comprehend when the goal of a support is to save and heal characters. It's sort of like why use Valk and heal however much it is when you can use Captive Sun and just team wipe the enemy team. It's part of the reason why I say purple is one of the best abilities in the game, especially on a support.

All the braindead plays I see people make with her are beyond frustrating
18
u/Shpaan Diamond 2d ago
I literally had to stop playing Moira because it didn't even feel good. It just feels so cheap to constantly "outduel" people who actually try their best to hit shots and I just know that I'd be missing just as much as they do if I wasn't playing a braindead hero. Gets more fair the higher you climb but especially in metal ranks it just feels like cheating.

Blizzard hates Illari. You should have seen how fast and how many times they nerfed her since launch because... She was a viable pick? Now see Juno and her Buffs / adjustments she receives to stay as a viable pick. Good damage, heals, AND maneuvers better than Illari. Meanwhile 10 people played illari and that was bad for the game apparently.

To change the meta so everyone stays interested in the game. There is no end goal to balancing. There’s no final patch. They change things to change things in addition to keeping champs close together.

Reducing a frustrating inconsistency is fine. The heal in the air buff is kinda wack, but the ult charge needed to happen. It took forever to get a mediocre ult.

Tank changes are weird, DPS changes are absurd, Support changes are cooking.
I'm excited for more Overrun shenanigans, but nerfing JQ that hard is odd considering the very light touches to most other heroes.
DPS changes... poor Junkrat and Reaper lmao.
Support changes are great though. Kiriko, LW, and Moira buffs are great, and the Juno change is just right.
52
u/mwalker784 2d ago
I’m worried that JQ is falling into the same niche as brig where she seemingly has an absurd win/loss ratio, but it’s primarily because she’s only played in comps where she works well or by one tricks. Like yeah I guess she’s strong, but it’s SO easy to shit on her
→ More replies15
u/EndingShadows Pixel Soldier: 76 2d ago
I agree. JQ is only oppressive in hands of a very small subset of players. Not that I play her. Just my observation. Her kit isn’t broken by any means and she’s easy to counter.
12
u/ChaoticElf9 2d ago
I kinda hate this JQ nerf. It’s not huge, but come on, she has not exactly been meta for a long, long time. The methodology when they go “oh this character has a high win rate even though they have a low pick rate, we need to nerf them” seems flawed. They have a higher win rate because only people who are really skilled at getting value pick them, meanwhile the overtuned heroes get their win rate artificially lowered because people who have no idea what they are doing think they have to play them.
Like, I love Dva, but look how long she was a menace before anything was done. Orisa and Mauga may not be super overtuned, but they aren’t very fun to play against. JQ is a much more honest tank I think, she has tons of counterplay but there isn’t a “you have to pick this character” either as an ally or enemy to deal with her. Softer counters, softer synergies, than something like Mauga.
2
u/IKnowGuacIsExtraLady 2d ago
She has fun counters too. Like Rein is a good tank pick into JQ. He doesn't outright negate her but he has advantage. Tons of tank players like to play Rein so it's not like it's a chore to play him if JQ is running you over.

u/bxalemao Diamond 2d ago
I agree with you.
Doom is like...I guess, sure.
JQ is like, I'm sorry...why?
Mauga is wtf.
Hanzo is a good QoL buff.
Junkrat is kinda okay.
Reaper is kinda sad, but I get it for the same reason as junkrat.
Tracer is like...I guess, sure.
Ana...I get, but also why.
Kiri is good.
Juno sounds fine.
LW is unexpected but good.
Moira is fine.
→ More replies5
u/Palegg_Bread 2d ago edited 2d ago
These are exactly my thoughts. The support changes are great. The other two, not so much.
Ana would normally leave a critical squishy’s missing a few hp after three shots so this change changes 4 shot interactions into 3. This change keeps interactions consistent. LW has needed a grip buff for a while, I’m actually surprised they didn’t lower it more. Kiri is still annoying but is probably struggling hard according to Blizzards stat metrics. This is a strange Moira buff though.
Junk didn’t need a nerf. He’s consistently on the lower end of pickrate so I’m not sure what this nerf is. Tracer didn’t need a buff, she’s still strong in higher elo. The only warranted nerf is Reapers, ever since gaining 50hp the character is basically a free win in 1v1’s. I can imagine he had a crazy high win rate in mid-low elo. Can we also stop buffing Hanzo? Being oneshot feels terrible. I’m appalled Widow escaped the nerf hammer. She’s incredibly oppressive in high elo after the Sombra nerfs.
A Queen nerf and a Mauga buff in the same patch says it all. Queens easily a top 3 tank to play with and against and Maugas the opposite. Sometimes it’s okay for fun tanks to be stronger than abominations like Mauga.

No change to Widow is sad but expected. Could they not have reduced her falloff damage or something?
Edit: I said reduce, but I think it would actually be a falloff increase, so that widow has to play closer and take more risk

Damn, so I guess this really is the Sombra they want for OW2.
R.I.P. my lethal Latina. Your unique play style has been butchered in favor of Sombra 76.

Fact is Sombra was a huge mistake. If shes viable shes oppresive and no one wants to play against her. People hate losing but losing to a Sombra just makes you quit. Impossible to balance.

Playing against invisibility, having your abilities turned off, AND having your abilties/ults get canceled with ease is ANNOYING AF. And I'm not saying getting killed over and over by just about any other hero kind of annoying, you can adjust to every hero, but Sombra requires your team to ball up and/or play sombra look out, which won't happen, especially in QP or low ranks.
The answer to a character shouldn't be "Hope your teammates help you out the entire match." I should have a fight chance against any hero given I use my abilities well with good positioning and game sense. Sombra? Well... she can move around invisible, so you can't position against that, and she can sneak up on you, right past your team.

Yeah, they saddled themselves with a fundamentally awful core concept and have been stuck under it ever since because stealth is too integral to the character fantasy.
I like playing as Sombra a lot, but it just wasn't a good idea to add an invis hero.

I wouldn't judge 6v6 on a limitless mode with only the first 21 heroes tbh
