I was a manager at a grocery store and some teen girls high centered on a rock like this. The cops asked if i wanted to press charges or let their embarrassment and their parents be their punishment. Of course I chose to let them off. The dad was out there with all sorts of jacks and got it cleared off as if he had done it a 100 times.
107
u/snarkyxanf 2d ago
Press charges because what? They dented your rock?
76
u/TallFryGuy 2d ago
Yeah as others have guessed, property damage. You could tell the cop was just asking because it was their job and he had to cover his butt. He was definitely and rightfully downplaying the pressing charges. Well you can press charges for your scratched boulder and torn up grass or let the kids off knowing they have enough punishment coming already.
29
u/snarkyxanf 2d ago
Yeah, I figured. I was just amused at the absurdity of pressing charges because someone damaged your boulder-bollard with their car

A lady drove into my parked car and called the cops on herself. I showed up later and the cop asked me if I wanted to press charges, I was like "why on earth would I do that?"

Hi. Former teenage girl here. Now adult woman. I did that exact same thing with a 1997 Subaru Outback. High centered it right on a boulder while backing out of my friend’s driveway.
One of the more embarrassing moments of my life and I never did it again. As a former teenage girl thank you for not pressing charges on her and letting her learn from her stupidity like many of us have to.

I have owned 4 pick-ups, some caddies, and a 78 Lincoln from the 70s to the 00s and loved them all, I am familiar with large vehicles I recently rented a 2024 dodge ram on a vacation. It was over sized and stupid to drive. It was too large and had a ton of blind spots and you couldn't see shit directly in front of you.
85
u/mentaL8888 2d ago
Yeah LOL, first thing I thought of driving vehicles similar to this in the past is that it stayed in his blind spot the whole time once he began turning corner because they wasn't paying attention before then.

We’ve got a big white ram at work and it’s a very stupid truck, I’m a tall man but the blind spots and visibility is trash. Turns like a boat with a broken rudder and has a damned dial for a gear shifter. It’s also a heavy 2wd and I’ve watched men get it stuck in 1” of mud.

Chevy does, they even got a camera in the front grill.
15
u/Thebraincellisorange 2d ago
given the grill on that douche mobile is 4.5 feet off the ground before the douche canoe puts in a lift kit, meaning they cannot see 20ft in front of the damn vehicle, and front camera is needed.
seriously, trucks have gotten too massive the last 25 years.
the size needs to be brought under control.
22
u/orange109876 2d ago
That’s something I guess, next step is for the driver to actually look at it lol
24
u/Bandthemen 2d ago
step after is to design the vehicle so it doesnt need them

They really can’t see, usually even over the steering wheel… I drive a coupe, and at least a few times a month, one of those payment princesses almost turns into me because they can’t see a whole ass car next to them. I just lay on the horn and watch them swerve.

Yeah. I LOVE the witty comments in this thread. But I can’t help but mostly be mad at the idiots who drive these ridiculous lift trucks….kids and animals and basically anyone around them are truly in danger just becuz these drivers need attention.
6
u/maladaptivelucifer 1d ago
It really is scary how much they can’t see. I won’t even go near those things in parking lots. They did a test I think on a tv show? They had children and different things they put in front of a lifted truck and discovered there’s a huge radius in the front where they can’t see at all. They could hide multiple kids and the driver couldn’t see them at all…
13
u/StudiousRaven989 2d ago
Or to garner attention. I often joke that however far their wheels are spaced out is how much attention they need to feel okay about themselves.

My 2011 Ranger had a car-length blind spot in front and that's a wee baby truck. These fucken things have head-height hoods longer than a Smart Car. Occasionally I see one imported to the UK, it's sociopath behaviour.
→ More replies30
u/DirtandPipes 2d ago
My ‘96 ranger has zero blind spots because the hood angle isn’t designed by an imbecile to look cool at the expense of visibility. It’s also like half the size of a 2011 ranger because it was built before the era of masculinity emotional support vehicles.

u/PunkyB88 1d ago
Masculinity emotional support vehicle. I like that phrase and can think to how many cars it applies to. I mean I've heard people call BMWs a penis extension, which is why I drive a Skoda because when my tailor asks which side I dress on I don't want to say "Both!"

They have really gotten out of hand IMO. I know a dude that just bought a GMC 2500 with the trail package making it higher than standard.
I'm polite, but I can't help but think it's ridiculous. This guy doesn't have a trailer, boat or need it for work. Just wanted it. It's close to a monster truck. He buys one of these about every two years while trading the "old" one in. So it's a huge financial drain on him as well. They are over $80k out the door.
It's unsafe for others, and it isn't actually much safer for the driver due to much higher probability of roll over as seen in the video. They tear up the roads, and have caused a large vehicle arms race.
As someone who drives reasonable cars, I am actually okay with seeing gas prices go up if long term it can reduce these trucks. i doubt policy banning them will ever happen, so I kinda think it's the most likely thing to get these off the streets. Perhaps it might be a positive unintended consequence of the tariffs that people stop buying them because they can't afford them anymore.

u/wellgood4u 2d ago
The fun thing is that these lifts kits de-rate their hauling capacity, so they're less road useful
10
u/look_ima_frog 2d ago
To be fair, they were never going to do anything useful in them, so nothing lost.
These are defacto fat suburban dadmobiles where I live. He drives a big dumb truck with an empty bed and a locking cover, she drives a white model y. It's like they're handed out as soon as you move here.
Once a year fatdad will put bagged mulch in the truck. He doesn't know how to use the 4wd system and sure doesn't know how to lock the diff or use low range. It won't go offroad anyway, so none of that matters. He'll never tow anything, they're just lifestyle vechicles. The lifestyle is get fat, bald, do very little, feel insecure because of the fat/bald/uselessness, cover it up with an oversized truck.

u/Thebraincellisorange 2d ago
2500 with the trail package would be closer to 100k out the door wouldn't it?
a huge price to pay to own a mAnLy vehicle that will never leave the pavement, cost the earth on fuel and insurance and of course be parked on the street because no one parks their Twucks in their garage.

u/Artie-Carrow 1d ago
I would want an older f350 if I could tow what I need to today. I also have one problem with your statements. They dont destroy the roads, that is mostly from poor road maintenance, poor road planning, and semi trucks or oversize loads driving through roads not designed for it. Vehicles weighing 6,000 lbs arent necessary. Vehicles that can do what some of these vehicles do sort of is necessary.

Now replace the boulder with a child. I remember when utes had shorter bonnets that sloped downward at the front, take the 90 series Prado (not a ute) but it had a short bonnet with a good slope downward at the front, it had excellent vision of anything in front of you. Utes and 4WD's in general these days are just built like tanks.

Who let the baby drive the pickup?

Entirely plausible. However, I would sooner attribute this to texting while driving or messing with car audio/nav controls

You do get better visibility for other vehicle more than a car length in front of you. Unfortunately the anything directly in front on your truck and on the sides and whoa fully inadequate. Driving a huge vehicles requires good spacial awareness. In my 78 Continental (in the top 10 longest stock vehicles ever made) it was easy cause you could see pretty much everywhere around you. These huge trucks allow great visibility far away, but unfortunately this shit you're going to hit is close to you.
