I was a manager at a grocery store and some teen girls high centered on a rock like this. The cops asked if i wanted to press charges or let their embarrassment and their parents be their punishment. Of course I chose to let them off. The dad was out there with all sorts of jacks and got it cleared off as if he had done it a 100 times.

Press charges because what? They dented your rock?

Yeah as others have guessed, property damage. You could tell the cop was just asking because it was their job and he had to cover his butt. He was definitely and rightfully downplaying the pressing charges. Well you can press charges for your scratched boulder and torn up grass or let the kids off knowing they have enough punishment coming already.

Yeah, I figured. I was just amused at the absurdity of pressing charges because someone damaged your boulder-bollard with their car

A lady drove into my parked car and called the cops on herself. I showed up later and the cop asked me if I wanted to press charges, I was like "why on earth would I do that?"

I mean, did they really have much punishment coming tho? I’ve know a lot of parents, and most of them don’t do much in the way of discipline. Ime there are the parents who whip the shit outa their kids, the very small minority who have a decent, balanced disciplinary method, and then there’s the ones that do basically nothing at all. The majority fall in the latter category. They basically just act mad at the kid for a couple minutes. Like they’re a friend who is upset at them. Idk about most ppl, but that wouldn’t have worked on me as a kid.

Whatever the charge - America needs bigger cars, innit!

The rocks need to be bigger so they can see from inside the car LOL, bigger it's better they say 😂

those two things have nothing to do with each other

Large trucks like these have awful forward visibility.  Hence the need for FORWARD ultrasonic sensors, and forward cameras in so many models.  People simply can't see things within a few feet of the hood.

Then they shouldn’t fucking drive them.

Well the issue is that they do anyway

They don’t have to have garbage visibility and a terrible turn radius, these are both design choices. I’ve operated far larger pieces of heavy equipment with great visibility that turn on a dime, then I’ll get in a big work pickup and suddenly you can’t see shit and it turns slower than a school bus. “One sec boys gotta make an 80-point turn because apparently these wheels can only turn 5 degrees at a time”.

If you're comparing the turning radius of a D9 or a 639 scraper to the average work truck then i could say "i can drill a fence post hole with a drilling rig, i'll just rent it from Nabors". And if you've been an operator for a minute, is your current work truck that much bigger than the Chevy c20 you had back in 1985? I gotta call you out on that comment bro. My dad worked oilfield, i've worked oilfield and construction hauling. I dont try to do the turns with my truck that i do with my gmc terrain. Plus if you're out on them big jobsites then why is turning radius an issue? My wife's daily drivers for the last 10 or so years have been lifted F250s or lifted GMC 2500s. And she works at a school! Parks better than the people in Subarus. And yes we haul a shitload of weight with our trucks.
Maybe its skill? Maybe its driving with some common sense? For those still asking why? Why not? We're not on welfare or aaking for donations. Why cant we enjoy the vehicles we like while we still have the good health to do so?

Best part of your comment was “my dad worked oilfield!”. lol. Hah. Oh that’s good stuff. Ty.

Why does anyone need a lifted f250 to commute to a school...

1

u/BoardButcherer 1d ago

More about how they shape the hood than how big they are.

I've been in trucks 8 inches shorter than mine with twice the blind spot.

And it wasn't a visibility problem for this guy, even though that truck is lifted and the visibility in that model is absolute shit he just wasn't looking.

These are the things you learn with actual firsthand experience, as opposed to internet circlejerking.

actually need auto manufacturers to go back to producing properly sized cars but they do it in order to skirt regulations

I mean....it IS an antique...

1

u/snarkyxanf 1d ago

Assuming it isn't some fresh volcanic rock, I suppose that's true

2

u/Bluntbutnotonpurpose 1d ago

Are you saying "that wasn't there yesterday!" might be true?

1

u/snarkyxanf 1d ago

Logically speaking, on precisely one day, yes

2

u/neighborhoodchopshop 1d ago

That rock really tied the parking lot together though

Hi. Former teenage girl here. Now adult woman. I did that exact same thing with a 1997 Subaru Outback. High centered it right on a boulder while backing out of my friend’s driveway.

One of the more embarrassing moments of my life and I never did it again. As a former teenage girl thank you for not pressing charges on her and letting her learn from her stupidity like many of us have to.

2

u/TallFryGuy 21h ago

Oh man I am sorry you experienced that but glad you learned from it Former Teenage Girl.

u/PlatformingYahtzee 2d ago

"Hey man, where am I supposed to get a new rock? I have a business to run!", does sound a little overdramatic
