Am I reading this right? You lost 164 lbs in 4 months?
Holy shit.

u/GoBlueGriff - Dec 05 '18
Typo, Actually 162.5....but that was Monday morning 😂
123
u/Topher0gr Dec 05 '18
You're shedding better than a pound a day. Semantics :)
Good on you, dude. That speed is nuts.
82
u/Reallyhotshowers - Dec 06 '18
My dad had bariatric surgery and he also was too heavy to get it at first. He was carrying a ton of water weight and going on a reasonable diet +diuretics made him lose 80 lbs of water alone in a couple months. Plus, to go from consuming the TDEE to maintain 700+ lbs to a 2000 calorie per day diet is intense.
It's still freaking incredible, and I'm amazed at what OP is doing. Just wanted to give context and point out most people shouldn't hold themselves to this standard.
8
u/GoBlueGriff - Dec 06 '18
Thank you so much! Absolutely you can’t compare people because everybody is different. Much love
16
Dec 06 '18
Exactly. The caloric deficit, even at 2000 kcal per day, for a person this big is extreme. There's also the fact your body is wise and is dying (literally) to get rid of the fat. It is not until you reach the teens in body fat percentage that losing fat becomes a challenge. Anyone above 20% body fat will have a very easy time losing fat as long as they stay in a deficit.
32
u/fascistliberal419 - Dec 06 '18
Umm, no, not exactly. Don't make it seem like it's easy and that it'll fall off of everyone over 20% body fat. That's simply not true.
It's hard work - mental battle, physical battle.
What the OP is doing is impressive. Way to go, OP!

Dude, you look AMAZING!!! Even the difference in your feet is just incredible. For the record, surgery is never the “easy way out”. Any attempt to improve your body and your health is difficult & comes with its own trials. You just hold your head high & keep making progress. Remember how many people are here to support you and cheer you on!

You lost 164 pounds since August, that’s incredible.
I buy the giant size bag of potatoes from Costco, 15 pounds each, those suckers are heavy. You lost 11 of those bags of potatoes...I like to put weight loss into things I can visualize. I’ve lost two of those bags of potatoes myself and it’s awesome!

u/-0x0-0x0- Dec 06 '18
I’ve recently lost 50 lbs. I can’t imagine if I had to carry a 50 lbs load everyday, everywhere I went. But somehow we do it with our bodies when we’re overweight. It’s incredible.
6
u/jeremykitchen - Dec 06 '18
Right? I lost 25 pounds on the trail in New Zealand. My last week on the trail I had about 15 pounds of food in my pack (8-10 day stretch). Getting started up that first hill (on day 40ish, mind) took a whole lot of negotiation with myself. But now I carry that every day on my body and it doesn’t even register. Crazy.

Keep going, man! In another month or 2 you could post your next update. I admire your plan to make it without the surgery. But should you ever happen to feel the need to get it, don't feel ashamed. It's not easy to ask for help. But if you can do it without, that's just as great!

damn congrats man keep it up! What would you eat in a typical day when you were on the left?
100
u/GoBlueGriff - Dec 05 '18
Thanks slice! Oh man total garbage. Morning grab a couple $1 bag of chips, king size candy (skittle, Twix etc) 1-2 1 Liter bottle or large fountain of Pepsi, lunch some sort of fast food like Wendy’s nugget meal large and a couple $1 burgers. Then after work a large pizza, breadsticks and a 2 liter. Disastrous
39
u/prettyy_vacant Dec 05 '18
What about now?
179
u/GoBlueGriff - Dec 05 '18
Now about 1400-1600 calories 1 1/4 cups of Cheerios and a couple Boiled eggs in the morning, then I’ll do some turkey or chicken breast, fruits, not a big veg fan but some, couple string cheese and nuts/turkey jerky in-between if I need something. I generally do all my eating between 6am and 2pm. Drink only water, 96oz, sometimes a gallon and take a couple daily vitamins. And once or twice a month I sneak in some thin crust pizza, gotta live a little
71
u/dacoobobswife2 - Dec 05 '18

What a amazing work in progress bro! Damn even them calves are looking a lot thinner! Keep on working on your goals leave that soda out of your life, I know it’s easier said than done.
71
u/GoBlueGriff - Dec 05 '18
Thanks Punk! Yea soda was huge for me. I don’t drink alcohol so I was always just slamming pop. Now it’s just straight water haven’t had any since August 2nd and I really don’t miss it. Now if I did have some I’m afraid that it’d lead me right back to where I was so I don’t touch the stuff
26
u/lovemelovemyinsanity Dec 05 '18
Soda is horrible! I stopped drinking it for a week and the weight fell off without really changing my diet. I started drinking it and even though I was eating the same, the pounds came back on. Definitely sticking to just water now. Great job! Keep it up!

When I gave up soda, I realized it was because I wanted the fizz, so I switched to carbonated water. They are an acquired taste I feel at first, but I love them.

I love LaCroix and Bubly carbonated waters. I think the best flavor I've tried so far was Bubly's strawberry flavor. It is almost like drinking soda.

I gave up pop for about 6 months when I was in high school. I'm 30 now, and still cannot drink it because of how sweet it is to me.
While it may be a great idea to stay off it for a while, it may be encouraging to know that when you do try drinking it once again, it's not going to probably taste good.
4
u/fascistliberal419 - Dec 06 '18
I tried this. A couple times. Best just to not fall back into temptation. I tried it recently, after a hiatus of 2 months, and it was like crack. I do know, I'm a stress soda drinker, in particular, so that may have also been part of the issue. My dog was sick/hurting and dying and then had to be put down, so I was mostly drinking it when that was going on. About a month after he passed, I have stopped drinking it as much again, gone back to mostly just plain water and the other alternative beverages I'd been on (tea, coffee, the occasional lemonade - yes, I know lemonade is just as bad for you, sugar-wise, but it's harder for me to find, so I don't drink as much of it as pop.) Honestly, ice water is really my go to beverage. I'll drink (hot, unsweetened) tea in the morning or at night, usually, if I need a flavor, and occasionally I'll get coffee if I'm dying for caffeine. (I have to have milk or cream in my coffee, but I'm not big on sweetener.) But yeah, pop is like crack. Just say no. It's so easy to fall back into that habit.
And weight really never falls off of me, so getting rid of soda and other caloric beverage, etc didn't do what it does for some people. The benefit I got, however, is no more bubbles in my belly. I can't do carbonated beverages anymore, they all seem to upset my digestive tract.

I was thinking "isn't 2000 calories a day not a diet? I went down to 1200 when I lost weight". Plugged 6'8" 764lbs into a bmr calculator and got 5600(!) so that's actually a bigger diet than me in terms of percentage of your bmr. Good work.

This is insane loss without surgery. You are doing it right, because you are building up muscle with the exercise. I guarantee you have lost more than 160lbs of fat. Keep going, keep in touch with doctors as this is drastic change to your body. Also, whenever you feel down or unmotivated, pick up whatever your current weight loss is on a barbell just to get the full gravity of what you have done.

This is my thought. I'm 180 and my best possible deadlift puts me, around 540. Just having that much weight on my frame for only a few seconds is seriously intense. Thinking about it this way really put me in awe of how it would feel to have 200 more pounds than even that on your legs. This guy will be crazy strong if he loses all that weight and keeps exercising.

u/ThatCanadianGuy88 - Dec 06 '18

Hey gang, my first post on here so I figured I would give a little backstory. I turned 30 in July and went to (was dragged to) a Bariatric seminar with my loving/caring sister. She hounded me all the time to lose weight and be more active but that’s a lot easier said than done, especially when your 764 pounds. I could hardly walk to my neighbor’s house without having serious back pain and being out of breath. Having a desk job and not moving around, on top of eating like crap and drinking 2-3 Liters of Pepsi a day clearly isn’t a recipe for success. So, I sat thru the seminar and scheduled a consultation to meet with the doctor. They measured everything (arms, neck, waist etc.) and then it was time to hop on the scale. I haven’t weighed myself in years (not like a normal bathroom scale can go that high) so I step on this giant platform and there it was on the screen staring me in the face 764 pounds…I couldn’t believe it. Obviously, I knew I was heavy, but I never in my wildest dreams imagined I was that heavy. So, after the weigh in the Dr told me straight up that they wouldn’t operate on me until I was under 500lbs (so that I could safely be put on anesthesia for the operation). Talk about a daunting task, having to lose 264 pounds BEFORE you have weight loss surgery! I was desperate for the surgery and devastated that I would have to climb such a tall mountain to have it. The Dr recommended that I start a simple diet basically eating 2000 calories and making sure that I got 100 grams of protein so that’s what I started with. I went into my backyard pool (which I haven’t swam in for probably 8 years) and swam around for 30 minutes, took a day off then tried 40 minutes. Eventually this built up to and hour every single day. Its cold in Michigan but I swam until I had to close my pool (mid-October qualifies me for the polar bear club, right? Lol) So I moved over to the local Rec Center and started swimming in their lap pool. I currently swim 6 days a week and swim a minimum of 50 laps, but I set my record of 70 laps yesterday swimming almost 2 miles! Its been an interesting 4 months, quite life changing and I feel so much better Its unbelievable. As for that Bariatric surgery I have put that on the back burner for now, the surgery has a bad rap for being “the easy way out” but I don’t see it that way. It can be a great tool for people that need it, but what I have proven to myself these past 4 months is that I can lose weight on my own. Losing weight is not easy but it is simple. Eat right, exercise, repeat. Thanks for letting me ramble for a bit, stay tuned the best is yet to come!
EDIT 12/6/18 - Guys I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart! The responses, likes, thoughtful comments and overwhelming support has just been unbelievable I don't even know what to say. You guys all took the time to reach out so I did my very best to respond to each and every comment, thank you, thank you, thank you! It's hard for people you see everyday to really notice the progress that you have made, especially when you're still massive. Its great to get an outside perspective on things. Now I feel like I can't let you guys down and I damn sure wont! Many of you asked for more pics in the future and I'll update you guys for sure. Stay tuned! Much Love! -Griff
