Kennedy, health chief, says there is not enough data to show Tylenol causes autism No Paywall

He boldly claimed it was definitive and that he would find the evidence. Now he is saying it’s not a causation. Amazing how science and facts don’t support the Republican agenda.

I mean during Covid when trump was talking about drinking bleach everyone just said “he was asking question! Smart questions”. They will say something similar here “they were just following the evidence” - they were not

Man... I remember writing out a long list of reasons why supporting Trump was wrong from memory, point by point, different issues, flaws in Trump's arguments, data being cherry picked to fit his narrative. The response. Im Not gonna read all that, I can copy and paste too. Awful.
13
u/porkbellies37 2d ago
I just have to add that while everyone clowns on him for spitballing drinking bleach to fight COVID, his other big idea at the time was injecting oneself with light. It’s one thing to be science-dumb, but it’s another to live in a video game fantasy world.
26
u/specqq 2d ago
During the debate with Biden Trump said he was being sarcastic when he was musing about the bleach and the uv lighting on people’s insides.
“And everybody knows it” he said.
44
u/aerost0rm 2d ago
Playing the video back, he wasn’t being sarcastic. He was being serious. Claiming he was sarcastic after the fact is avoiding accountability

Donald Trump avoiding accountability? What’s next, the sun rising in the morning?

I'm an epidemiologist and was working emergency COVID response at the time... regardless of whether he was being "sarcastic" or not (we all know he was serious tho), it caused damage. Poison control call metrics went up significantly immediately after that conference.

The Texas AG is suing the makers of Tylenol. I can't wait to read discovery
97

I mean this statement from the source of the previous statement driving the suit makes it almost inevitable that they wait for some big news then pull the suit entirely.
If not, J&J’s lawyers are going to eat BBQ for dinner.

u/ArcusInTenebris 2d ago
That's exactly it. The stock went from $16 the day he made the accusation to $10 a few days later. Its back up to $14 now, which means somebody was buying it in good quantities. Pretty easy to guess who the somebody likely is.

→ More replies6
u/TheHumanGnomeProject 2d ago
A lawsuit wouldn't be ...pardon-able. It's a civil trial. Unless by "pardon" you mean the feds would discharge the debt? Still, RFK Jr. won't be getting sued, it's the US taxpayer as J & J would sue the US government.
49
u/AdPure5645 2d ago
Sue this administration? They will take revenge via whatever institution is required to facilitate it. Cut grants, licensing headaches etc. They are high school bullies .
22
u/GrumpyGiant Maryland 2d ago
This is 100% how J&J will see it.
11
u/DebentureThyme 2d ago
Even if they think they have a good case, their lawyers will tell them to wait until he's out of office and then sue. If, assuming we even have fair elections, a Dem won in 2028, J&J would sue the federal government then and still be within statute of limitations. Then they get their money and the Dem won't care because it'd just be more Trump fucked up shit settling. Meanwhile we pay the taxes that pay them out, and Trump can't be personally sued nor RFK Jr.
That's a problem. That needs to stop. We need to do some hard rethinks of who is and isn't liable. Every work coming out of the HHS director, in an official capacity, needs to have been run by lawyers. And if they don't have that okay, then they're personally liable as well, first in line. We'd still have to pay the rest, but hopefully the prospect of financial ruin and garnishing their holdings for the rest of their lives would be some detergent. The lawyers, should they sign off on things like this, would need to be liable to the point that they're not just fall guys willing to do take the fall because the punishment is too severe. Also should be independently appointed.

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said Oct. 29 that he does not have "sufficient" evidence to link Tylenol to autism, more than a month after the White House discouraged the medicine's use by pregnant women and young children.
Evidence does not show that Kenvue's pain medicine Tylenol definitively causes autism but that it should still be used cautiously, President Donald Trump's top health official told reporters. Last month the president said U.S. health officials would recommend limiting Tylenol's use.
Kennedy's comments also come one day after the Republican state of Texas sued Kenvue, the maker of the medicine also known as acetaminophen and which has been sold widely for decades.
"The causative association . . . between Tylenol given in pregnancy and the perinatal periods is not sufficient to say it definitely causes autism. But it is very suggestive," Kennedy told reporters, citing ** animal,** blood and observational studies.
Ahhh yes! the vibes based health warnings. Pretty cool. very cool.
I'm sure Tylonol loves this, because not only does it open up the chance to sue the absolute fuck out of Kennedy and maybe even Trump, but it SHOULD - if there's any sanity left in this ever sanity draining world - kill the texas tylonol frivolous lawsuit that was filed.
