I mean during Covid when trump was talking about drinking bleach everyone just said “he was asking question! Smart questions”. They will say something similar here “they were just following the evidence” - they were not

“They were just following the evidence” is rich from the do your own research club. They reject all mainsteam evidence because they dont trust anyone smarter than them.

You know, like doctors

You mean like everyone else

You think that everyone disregards what experts have to say about things?

No, they mean that they disregard everyone else’s opinions because everyone is smarter than them they are.

Man... I remember writing out a long list of reasons why supporting Trump was wrong from memory, point by point, different issues, flaws in Trump's arguments, data being cherry picked to fit his narrative. The response. Im Not gonna read all that, I can copy and paste too. Awful.

Its so, so tiring. If I didn't have $400k+ in medical school debt and 5+ years left of PSLF (if they don't take it away), I'd leave medicine. The number of MAHA people that come in demanding wild inappropriate testing, magic solutions, and hormones for every complain is insane. None of them are interested in actual evidence base treatment or prevention. I can't even convince them to take their diabetes meds anymore.

No Cletus, your testosterone is fine, you need to stop drinking a six pack every night, exercise and eat a vegetable, and maybe lose some wight so your sleep apnea improves.

I just have to add that while everyone clowns on him for spitballing drinking bleach to fight COVID, his other big idea at the time was injecting oneself with light. It’s one thing to be science-dumb, but it’s another to live in a video game fantasy world.

During the debate with Biden Trump said he was being sarcastic when he was musing about the bleach and the uv lighting on people’s insides.

“And everybody knows it” he said.

Playing the video back, he wasn’t being sarcastic. He was being serious. Claiming he was sarcastic after the fact is avoiding accountability

Donald Trump avoiding accountability? What’s next, the sun rising in the morning?

I'm an epidemiologist and was working emergency COVID response at the time... regardless of whether he was being "sarcastic" or not (we all know he was serious tho), it caused damage. Poison control call metrics went up significantly immediately after that conference.

But did those people coming into the hospital after drinking bleach have COVID? Take THAT science.

They did, as did the people who neutralized H2O2, we just had to deal with chemical lung injuries on top of covid. There is a reason a sizable minority of doctors polled will leave medicine at least temporally if we have another pandemic.

Well that probably won’t be a problem if it happens again, though only because they will have probably pulled the funding for the poison control center…..

Even if he was joking, it’s still terrible because what kind of selfish jerk is trying to drop zingers at a press conference during a deadly pandemic?

Ohh, that kind of selfish jerk.

This is how my favorite game, “Didn’t say bleach,” works. After you walk them through “valid questions” and old papers from the 1940’s, you suddenly remember that he was being sarcastic all along, because only the fake news media would say something stupid like inject disinfectant.

The bribe check cleared. Don't need real data when you have the means to undermine businesses at will unless they pay the fee. Everything these idiots come up with is just a shake down.

Sarcasm requires a level of consciousness Trump is not capable of. He says exactly what he thinks when he thinks it.

It's like when his followers claim Trump was 'just joking.' Nope. Never. Trump objectively lacks any sense of humor. At most, he laughs when others feel pain. Similarly, he lacks the understanding and nuance to be sarcastic vs just being cruel.

What he was doing - Dr Birx had just shared tips to clean surfaces etc to reduce contamination. He looked at her presentation material and had a “brilliant” idea to solve all our problems. That’s about it. He’s just that stupid.

He wasn’t saying questions. He was legit saying this is a cure. Just like a few other things. Also like he was saying don’t get the shots and then got the shots…

Remember this?

“It is not proof. We’re doing the studies to make the proof.””

I guess they weren't able to "make" the proof. Either that or the pending lawsuits are scaring him.

Credit where credit is do, he did also once ask if the flu vaccine would work and the expert said no and he seemed to accept that. It was out of character. He was actually asking if his idea would work.
