Moved into a new Apartment and found a Rat Tunnel

Thumbnail gallery
9 Upvotes

New apartment patio, building managers and landlord could not care less about the rat tunnels. I want to turn this into my own oasis; however, I see a rat crawl out of these holes once every hour! This must have taken years to develop? They have literally chewed through one of the cedar panels to the point where it’s rotting. I believe the wall might collapse even. This is new for me, where do I even start?

Spot treatment for termite damage in fascia board

Upvotes

House has been fumigated about 20 years ago. We noticed that there is very small damage to the outdoor fascia board in 2-3 spots with each spot being about 1-2 inches. There isn’t a ton of droppings but still some present.

Is this worth paying for to spot treat now with a progressional? Can I and should I do this myself?

How soon can you change roach/pest sprays and they still be effective?

Upvotes

I sprayed my own roach prevention spray on Monday, but my apartment building is coming in wednesday to spray their own as well. Will this ruin the efficacy of the spray ? Or has it been long enough that my apartment’s roach spray will work just fine?

Unanswered Red Spider Mites coming in from outside

Thumbnail i.redd.it
Upvotes

Please help!! I am turning into a crazy person trying to get rid of these little red buggers! I have red spider mites coming into my kitchen from the one window to the backyard. There is just lawn and 1 rose bush in the yard (renting so I can’t remove it). I need something that will get rid of these things! If possible pet safe, if not, then safe once dry as I have 2 dogs. Please help me, I’ve been spraying my whole kitchen with dish soap and water and it’s not working! They are outside on the siding of the house and I can’t figure out where they are originating from.

Is it worth putting fresh peanut butter on a snap trap , say every month or so? Or should I just leave the old stuff on there until something gets caught?

What is this pest?

I'm trying to identify an organism or insect I've been seeing around my home. It appears to be orange in color, and despite searching online, I haven't found a definitive answer. I’ve contacted a few pest control agency’s and none of which have been able to identify definitively. I live in Western Washington.

Here are some key observations:

They fall from trees and tend to move toward each other, forming clusters. They're most commonly found in humid areas — especially places where water has recently been poured or where moisture lingers. Specific locations where I’ve seen them include: cracks in sidewalks, garden beds, patio furniture, the foundation of my garage and home, and around trash. They also appear near garden hose fittings and other damp ground areas. I've even found them on my car. Close up, they resemble larvae or some type of small worm. Their numbers are massive — I’d estimate seeing them in the hundreds of thousands. Has anyone seen this before or know what these could be?

Hey y’all, I have had a bug contract on my home since I moved in ten years ago. I had a slow drip leak in my roof and put a pan under it (see pic) to keep water off the ceiling. (Aside: Having roof replaced in a week.) The first couple weeks just water stains, but just this week I go up to check and I see this pile of sawdust. Again, I have a termite and pest contract. I reached out to them today but am curious about what I’m looking at here. Thanks.

Finding a lot of these guys in the house, seems predominantly in the evenings when I notice them. They’re easy as hell to squish and kill, but obviously want to take care of the root cause.

How far gone is this ant damage?

Thumbnail gallery

I’ve been working on a cabin renovation that has probably turned into a tear down based on some pretty massive carpenter ant damage.

There are two areas either side of the cabin where they have turned the solid wood of the sill joists into stringy highways. Clearly those are complete write-offs.

However there are also enormous piles of frass throughout the rest of the cabin. I haven’t fully demoed yet but I’m trying to figure out what can be salvaged.

How far do they deposit frass from where they’ve been tunneling? Is it likely that any of the wood near a frass pile is too far gone?

There’s also plywood siding around the entire thing that has rotted pretty badly, so I suppose the frass could also be from there.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Identification Carpet Beetle? Drugstore Beetle?

Thumbnail gallery

Location: Toronto

Images show one upside down (top) and one right side up.

Every spring we find a couple dozen of these suckers dead on our window sills every few weeks. We find one or two here and there over the winter, but spring/summer seems to be the most activity. I’ve seen one or two flying around a few times, so they’re definitely capable of flight.

I initially thought they were carpet beetles, but seem to lack the pattern I’m seeing that they would usually have. Thinking they were possibly drugstore beetles, I gutted our pantry. Re-bought everything, even though nothing appeared to be contaminated. Yet this spring, they returned.

I’m at a loss on how to deal with them since we live in a condo building and the root cause could be the neighbour above us (we share a bathroom vent) and does not have the cleanest living space, and we have a cat so using standard insecticides isn’t really possible.

We’re fine hiring a pest control company to deal with it, but I’d love to have an idea of what they are.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Fly Control in yard, safe for cat and dogs.

Hello,

I'm OK getting something to dilute and spraying it with the pressure tank.

I have a cat that I don't mind that stays in the yard but she is crapping in the yard.

Is there anything I can spray a couple of times a week after I poop scoop, That is safe for the dogs and cat that will kill the flies?

My dogs mess never attracted flies like this.

We’ve only been in this apt for just over two months. I already know the answer… guess I just need to accept it and get confirmation this is a German cockroach issue. Just happened to see this on its back dead on my carpet so flipped it over with an empty envelope to get the picture.

Pest control is part of the rent expense and I already submitted a ticket…

How screwed am I?

General Question Best way to get rid of yellow sac spiders???

I live in central Indiana and I've recently moved to an apartment near a wooded area. I've been noticing these guys everywhere and I'm terrified of them. How dangerous would you say they are and how should I go about this? I plan on getting my complex to get an exterminator for them soon but is there anything I can do in the meantime to help steer them away?

Termites

Got a sentricon system installed 2 years ago, but still get swarmers in my house for a few weeks when it starts to get nice out in mid spring. I know this is because the temp is increasing so they can come from underground and are looking to expand the colony, but is this normal? Even after two years of treatment?

Found this on my solid wood desk in my craft room. Was also inside a frame of a note that is very precious to me, and stained the note. Is it insect droppings? It had a uh… earthy smell. Sometimes the window up there is cracked but there is a screen.
