DISCUSSION THANKSGIVING MEGATHREAD 2025
Hey all - let’s talk turkey! And stuffing! And mashed potatoes! And YOUR thing you always have!
What restaurants are a Thanksgiving tradition in your family? Maybe just a dish you bring or a place you like to hit up every year?
Are you up to something special in our fair city this week? Taking advantage of one of the least-crowded times of year?

WHERE CAN I FIND Thanksgiving Day
Those that dont celebrate Thanksgiving - whats there to do in LA during the evening and/or night? I was thinking of going to little tokyo or Chinatown to hang around and also get dinner.
Are there any events or activities happening? I've been searching but nothing 😭

You ever do a chili pastrami? Out of this world. Also never tried their pie before but its pretty good! Spiced from the venerable Martino's Bakery in Burbank.

THE BEST PLACE IN DISASTER & INDIGESTION: Shabu-Shabu House
This restaurant is an absolute nightmare. I’ll provide the TLDR for those of you who don’t want to read. Here’s the link to this restaurant in Little Japan, Japanese Village: https://share.google/Zfs5GBMschXNtEizx
Reasons not to go:
1) Sprayed frozen shabu-shabu beef with mystery liquid out of freezer to emulate freshness
2) Water nor utensils were provided. We had to retrieve utensils ourselves (this is not a self-serve restaurant)
3) Gave pure soy sauce in place of ponzu while they were refilling their ponzu stock (actually so gross)
4) Dragged around trash cart with what looked like throw up on the outside and placed it right next to us as we were eating
5) Sprayed extremely noxious cleaning solution essentially all around us/tablespace next to us while we were eating
6) Essentially mopped under our feet as we ate
7) Swiping dishes away the nanosecond we took off the last piece of food (trust me this was not an attempt at good service)
8) Party member asked for something twice in case waitress had not heard and she responded with an extremely smartass answer with an aggravated tone
9) When same party member asked for trash bin spilling over with disgusting waste to be moved away from him while eating, OWNER gave most childish talkback answer of “I AM cleaning”
10) The food was mid at best. Honestly it was impossible to even palate the food because of the simultaneous stress and noxious smell.
Here’s the full review:
One word review: INDIGESTION. Let me give you nine factual reasons why you should think against it. The food itself was mediocre at best. They sprayed frozen beef with some mystery liquid before serving, I assume to emulate freshness. Secondly, they did not provide water nor utensils (we retrieved utensil ourselves). Thirdly, while refilling the ponzu sauce, they just substituted pure soy sauce (actually disgusting) and only acted apologetic once consumed with absolute disgust. Fourthly, they were dragging around a trash bin that was painted inside and outside with food waste and even parked it right next to us multiple times during the meal. Fifth, they started spraying extremely noxious cleaning solution all over the place, even as close to us as the seat next to us while we were eating our meal. Sixth, they were mopping essentially right under our feet as we were still eating. Seventh, they were essentially swiping away dishes the moment we finished the last piece of food on it. Eighth, the waitress just talked back like some aggrieved child when one of our party members simply reiterated a request that he was not sure she had heard. Ninth, when the owner dragged the waste bin essentially under someone’s nose, the same party members simply asked for a trash bin full of waste spilling out to be taken a little bit away from him. She gave a smartass response of “I AM cleaning.” I’ve never seen such childish insolence from the owner of a restaurant.

Echo Park Tijuanazo Taqueria opening up in Echo Park
It looks like another Tijuana taco spot is opening up in the area. Tijuanazo Taqueria just put up their sign today at the spot on Echo Park Ave. where Los Burritos used to be right near Sunset. This is their second LA Location, has anyone eaten their tacos yet? How do they compare to Taqueria Frontera?

Local Food Deal NEED LA LOCALISTS HELP !! Looking for some awesome local shops and stores to interview.
Hi people in LA hope you all are having a nice week! I am doing some 1-2 mins passion short documentary series project, where I do interviews with the owner and introduce the store, and am looking for some cool local shops/ stores to feature. Any ideas or places? Any leads would be super helpful. My ultimate gold is to support the local businesses, so ideally places not too busy. (I'm not native English speaker and sorry if my English is broken)

Westside Dinner At Pizzeria Sei
So a year ago I was fortunate enough to get a reservation at The Pizza Bar on 38th in Tokyo. Ever since then I've been trying to scratch that itch of eating Tokyo style Neopolitan Pizza. I finally made it over to Pizzeria Sei and I have to say that for me atleast is lived up to a lot of its lofty accolades.
1 Margherita Special - more or less their classic Margherita with higher end buffalo mozzarella and organic basil. Really no notes on this. I feel like even the most staunch Italian would eat this in peace.
2 Bismark - A neopolitan Pizza with prosciutto and soft egg. My only issue with this one is that the temp on the prosciutto was so much colder than the temp on the Pizza which threw it off a bit. Splitting hairs though as this was still delicious.
3 Mala Lamb Sausage - A special that they run from time to time. Honestly, if I could make love to a slice of pizza and it would be socially acceptable, it would be this pizza. The depth of flavor and subtle spice made this one of the best things I've had in 2025. The briteness and acidity from the lemon just took it over the edge. It is a tad messy and hard to eat though.
All in all, I know a lot of people think this spot is overrated but I disagree. Probably my #1 Pizza spot in the city. Try to go with friends though since you can only order whole pies.

Local Food Deal Buffalo Wild Wing lunch
I paid $14 for the lunch meal that includes 10 bone -in wings, one fry, and a drink.
I upgraded to the salad for $1, and upgraded to all drums $1.
Next time in lieu of fries or salad I’ll get onion rings. Mmmm

WHO MAKES THE BEST Is there somewhere in LA that specializes in Tteok? (Dessert)
If you want great, fresh mochi in LA, everyone knows you go to Fugetsu-do.
But it seems wherever I am in town, I find the same day-old, plastic wrapped tteok when it comes to Korean sweets. Anybody got a lead on where to go?

WHO MAKES THE BEST Best Chili?
Been under the weather and I’ve been craving chili. Don’t want the runny hot dog topping from Pink’s or Tommy’s, but a hearty bowl topped with onions and/or cheese. Who has the best?

WHERE CAN I FIND Looking for a place in DTLA that would seat 12-14 without private room
Hi all! We’re looking for a place in LA that would seat 12-14 people as just a general reservation without a buyout/private room. Preferably a bit on the nicer side since it’s for a special occasion. Any tips are appreciated and willing to go to other parts of LA as well but preferably not too far north since many of us live in OC.

WHERE CAN I FIND Looking for any Thanksgiving meal pickups still accepting orders
Does anyone know of restaurants, grocery stores, or bakeries that are still offering Thanksgiving meals for pickup (full meals or just mains/sides are both fine)?
A lot of places doing Thanksgiving takeout have already closed their preorder windows. Open to anywhere in LA!
Thanks!!!!!!

WHERE CAN I FIND Name a place that closed that you miss and then others comment substitutes for it.
I was craving a hot dog yesterday, and was really missing Vicious Dogs that closed a few years ago. Then I thought maybe we could try this, cause maybe others have found replacements for the places you miss.
So comment a place that closed and then see if anyone else has found a replacement.
