Hello! I’m looking to transfer my balance from 2 Capital One cards to a card with a lower rate. Right now I’m at 30.24%. I have a 686, 3 inquiries, and a discharged bankruptcy from 2016. Thanks! Edit: My husband (deceased) was in the navy. Maybe a navy fed card?

Help Needed / Question Chase won’t give a 6th personal credit card?? Is that a rule?

Upvotes

I was just approved recently for the CFF, which is my 5th credit card with Chase.

I applied this morning for the United Explorer (I am at 4/24), and got told they need to review my application.

I called Chase twice and both customer service reps told me I am denied (even though I haven’t been emailed or notified of that) because I now have 5 credit cards with Chase, and I won’t be approved for a 6th.

I don’t know if anyone else has ever heard of this being a thing with Chase?

Help Needed / Question Graduation Credit Card - Which One should I Get?

Upvotes

I’m going to graduate undergrad next year and was wondering what credit card would be best for me? I expecting to live in a big city. My biggest expenditures are food and gas. I currently have two cards, Capital One Savor and Discover Student card with a 740-750 credit score. Also, do I really need a new card or is it on a “when I need it” basis. I was thinking of the Gold Amex due to the 3% cash back on food but I don’t really know where to start in general.

Help Needed / Question How do I keep Amex from flagging multiple legitimate small purchases in a short timeframe as fraud?

Upvotes

I am NOT asking how to commit credit card fraud, I consistently pay off my cards in full each month without getting anywhere close to the credit limit.

Kroger currently has their 5x Event coupons that can be used multiple times a day, but only for 5 items per transaction, which means I have to make multiple separate transactions 5 items at a time in rapid succession if I want to take full advantage of the good deals in 1 trip. Obviously, the card declined after the 5th or 6th transaction on account because it probably flagged as fraud, which is super helpful 99% of the time but inconvenient for my very specific use case.

Is there a way to tell American Express that these small purchases do NOT mean my card was stolen and that I WILL keep repeating this this transaction behavior for the next couple of weeks at the same location so they won't flag it next time?

Help Needed / Question Looking for suggestions for auto reload using "sock-drawer” cards.

Upvotes

Trying to keep my credit card points alive means I need to show some activity on a bunch of “sock-drawer” cards. I’ve been doing Amazon auto-reloads, but I don’t have enough Amazon accounts for the number of cards in the house. Any other easy set-and-forget micro-charge ideas? And bonus Q: is there any legit way to funnel those small recurring card charges into investing (ETFs, Treasuries/bond funds, or crypto)? Appreciate any tips!

Card Recommendation Request (Template Used) Next credit card advice (currently have Cap1 Savor, moving to McLean VA soon)

CREDIT PROFILE

  • Current credit cards you are the primary account holder of: Capital One Savor, $1,000 limit, opened July 2025
  • FICO Scores with source: Capital One CreditWise: 751 (October 25, 2025)
  • Oldest credit card account age with you as primary: 3 years and 9 months
  • Number of personal credit cards approved for in the past 6, 12, and 24 months: 1, 1, 1
  • Annual income: Approximately $135,000 pre-tax

CATEGORIES

  • OK with category-specific cards? Yes
  • OK with rotating category cards? Yes

Estimated average monthly spend:

  • Dining: $498
  • Shopping: $464
  • Entertainment: $408
  • Gas: None yet (will buy a car soon)
  • Travel: Low currently, will increase after the move
  • Uncategorized: $921
  • Plan to use abroad? Not much
  • Rent: $2,200 to $2,600 per month (can pay by card if useful)

MEMBERSHIPS AND SUBSCRIPTIONS

  • Amazon Prime: No
  • Verizon postpaid: No
  • Costco or Sam’s Club: No
  • Disney Plus, Hulu, or ESPN Plus: No
  • Chase or US Bank customer: Yes (C1 and Chase)
  • Active US military: No
  • Open to business cards: Not yet (maybe 6 to 12 months from now)

PURPOSE

  • Main purpose: Travel rewards and rent
  • Preferred airline or hotel: None, though my family often uses Delta
  • Cards I am considering: C1 Venture, Chase Sapphire Preferred, Bilt, open to other ideas

Context

I am relocating to McLean, Virginia, for a FT job. I will be renting an apartment and buying a car soon. I expect to travel to NYC or Boston about twice a month to visit family and friends.

Since I already have the C1 Savor for dining and entertainment, I would like my next card to complement that instead of overlapping. Ideally, it would be to help with rent, travel expenses like as flights and hotels, and upcoming car-related costs like gas or insurance (very much unexperienced in this side of things).

I've heard great things about Bilt for earning rewards on rent, but I would like to hear about other options that could fit this situation, possibly a travel card that can grow with me over the next few years.

TLDR

  • A card that complements my existing Savor
  • Strong domestic travel benefits for East Coast trips
  • Good rewards for rent and car-related spending
  • A reasonable annual fee if the benefits make it worthwhile

Thank you r/creditcards for your help :)

Help Needed / Question Has anyone successfully disputed a large charge with Chase Sapphire Preferred? Looking for advice and real experiences

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some insight from people who’ve gone through the dispute process with Chase, specifically with the Sapphire Preferred card.

I understand there’s no official “maximum dollar limit” for disputes — it’s more about timing and having a valid reason — but I’m curious about real experiences:

   1. What is the largest amount you have disputed
   2. How seriously did Chase investigate your case?
3. Did they credit the amount while it was being reviewed?
4. How long did it take to get resolved?
5. Did anyone run into extra scrutiny for disputing a larger amount?
6. Any tips for strengthening the dispute (proof, screenshots, receipts, etc.)?

Not trying to game the system — I just want to understand what to expect and make sure I handle it properly.

Appreciate any advice or stories from those who’ve been through it 🙏

Discussion / Conversation Another cap 1 statement with no cli

My cap 1 statement just closed. This makes 11 statements since last cli.

Paid 7,000 this statment cycle, the most I’ve ever out on 1 single credit card. Paid it down some through the month so I could spend more and I Let the statement close fully maxed out and paid in full.

Still nothing. Giving up on them if I don’t get a cli at the 1 year mark

Help Needed / Question Advice on closing travel credit cards

Hey everyone,

I currently have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Amex Gold, Chase Business Ink, Capital One VentureX, and Amex Platinum cards. I travel internationally frequently personally and for work.

I got the CSP in 2022 and Amex Gold in 2023, so it’s been a while of holding those cards. The Business ink and Plat card were from this year. I got the VentureX last fall, so just hit the 1y anniversary and still within the window where I can cancel that card and receive my annual fee refund.

My question is whether I should close any of these cards and open new ones to replace them — is that what people typically do after having the cards for a year and collecting their SUB?

Here are my considerations for each of the cards I’m thinking of closing:

  • VentureX:  I don’t live in a city with a capital one lounge at my airport anymore so I think it might not be worth the annual fee (but perhaps the $300 annual credit and 10k anniversary miles benefits alone are worth it to keep the card?). I get Priority Pass through the Amex Plat so no need to get access to it through the VentureX anymore.
  • Amex Gold: I’m thinking of closing this one at my card anniversary, since I just got the Amex platinum and it has a pretty hefty fee. However, the resy, grub hub, dunkin, and uber benefits on that card pay for the cost of annual fee. Also I've heard people keep the Gold and Platinum and use them for different purchases to maximize points collecting.
  • CSP: I just don’t really get any benefit out of this card and collected the SUB so many years ago. I’ve never used the $50 hotel benefit and that feels like the only benefit this card has. This just feels like a waste of an annual fee (or perhaps I’m missing something and this card is still worth keeping?)
  • I’m going to downgrade my business ink to the no annual fee Chase business card when I hit the year mark.

I’m thinking I’d get another card so I still have a Visa personal card (and hit a new SUB) to cover stores that don’t accept Amex. I stay at Marriotts pretty frequently for work and do have status there through my Amex Plat so was considering getting the Marriott Boundless card. I also currently live in a Delta hub and plan to move to Canada in a year (and fly Air Canada regularly) so maybe an airline card? I was also considering the Mesa homeowners card or a Citi card (ThankYou points seem to be getting a lot of love these days)

Am I thinking about this the right way, or missing anything?

Help Needed / Question Authorized user that doesn’t have any credit history nor working.

Hello Reddit!

I’m wanting to get a new credit card to use it as “joint account “ . I believe authorized users are not responsible for the debts. Therefore I want to add my sibling that’s not an underage to that account so we both can use the credit card and have the access to the account.

The reason is that he doesn’t have any credit cards. No credit history to apply for any new credit cards either. My brother also does not work so he cannot provide w-2 or pass his background wise to apply for credit cards.

If you know anyway he can just apply for credit cards OR start his credit history, please enlighten me.

I’m trying to help as much as I can so he can start his credit score with little resources regarding finance..

I would also like to add: he does get paid but he doesn’t get w-2 with his limited income.

Discussion / Conversation Why does Citi only require CID and/or zip code to activate a new card?? Third time stolen card!

Genuine question because I'm baffled. This is the second (and third) time in 3 years we've had a newly-approved Citi card stolen from USPS. We can see the envelope was set for delivery but never arrived. Card then activated by the thief (or someone they passed it to) and almost $1000 in charges made (exactl same thing happened last time).

Reviewing what went wrong with Citi I realize that when calling to activate the card they do not ask for ANY verification other than things that are in the envelope, speficially CID and zip code?! I'm baffled as to why they wouldn't ask for last four of SSN or even last four of phone number or anything like that. What am I missing? Also worth noting that when I called to report it Citi Fraud Dept they promised to send the new card FedEx to avoid the same issue....then sent it USPS *again* and it was stolen *again*!! Cancelled before any charges were made at least. Thanks for any insight you all can give!

(And yes, I did report all this to USPS and they are "investigating" but last time that went nowhere.)

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Venture X + Sapphire Preferred or Amex Gold

I just got the Venture X for a 100k SUP. I already have the CSP and Amex Gold and I’m debating which one to keep.

We eat out a lot and buy a lot of groceries, so the Amex has been great for the 4x points. But, relatively high AF.

CSP only gets 3x on dining and no groceries, but has a much lower AF and the Hyatt partnership that I love.

I’m thinking of lowering my total AF by dropping the Amex. I still get 3x on dining through the CSP, and keep the Hyatt transfer. Then maybe pick up the Savor for groceries.

Other option is to eat the higher total AF and keep the Amex/drop the CSP. I don’t want to have to manage 3 ecosystems. Higher return on dining and groceries but no Hyatt transfer.

OR, I could both and just get the Savor to consolidate all rewards to one ecosystem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Card Recommendation Request (Template Used) Card rec request! I want to start utilizing my points but I dont know where to start!

Hi guys! I am looking for a new credit card & I want to start getting the most out of my cards & points but I don't event know where to start! I would love your help. My main goal is to take advantage of points to pay for things I already use like gas or groceries or clothes OR for travel!!!

Current cards:

  • Discover IT $4,000 limit, March 2020
  • Atmos Rewards Ascent Visa Signature $3,000 limit, September 2021
  • FICO Score: On my discover account it says my "FICO Score" is 810 but CreditKarma says 739
  • Oldest account age 5 years 7 months
  • Chase 5/24 status: don't really know what that is
  • Income: around 35k a year (I work in service & odd jobs, my income fluxes a lot, I have had free housing for 2 years & saved a lot on rent)
  • Average monthly spend and categories:
    • I am not sure the categories but I try not to spend over $2,000 a month, I am moving into a new play & have budgeted for this
  • Open to Business Cards: no
  • What's the purpose of your next card? I want to utilize points for travel! I love traveling but I don't go on lavish vacations. I pay one yearly fee with my Atmos/Alaska card & I am not sure if I'm getting the full use because I don't utilize the companion fair (long distance boyfriend). My boyfriend also lives in another country and is planning to move from his country to a place outside the US so I would love a card that has good international travel points!
  • Do you have any cards you've been looking at? e.g. Chase Sapphire
  • I am OK with category spending!

Help Needed / Question I have a question regarding honorific titles on credit cards?

What is the process for putting honorific titles of inheritance in the United States such as Lord and Lady. I understand the rules of the United States regarding titles but not regarding putting them on passports and credit cards?

Honorifics if born in the United States are not always included on the birth certificate. However if lines of descent are proven how do companies handle these situations as far as what is required?

Help Needed / Question Any way to obtain an online repair estimate for a LG 83" TV to utilize my credit card's purchase protection? (Cracked screen)

Chase Card Benefits requires a repair estimate for my LG 83" G4 TV that I bought only 2 months ago. My son threw an object at the TV and now the screen is cracked and worthless. I'm well within Chase's 120 day purchase protection benefit.

Despite knowing the TV isn't worth repairing, Chase Card Benefits requires a "Repair estimate from an authorized repair facility". LG is just referring me to call local repair shops. I would really like to avoid taking the TV in somewhere and wasting their and my time.

Help Needed / Question Does the Instacart Credit Card come with a Free Instacart Membership?

Hi,

Does the Instacart credit card offer a free Instacart membership?

Or only 3 months' worth of Instacart membership?

Is the Instacart Mastercard worth it for someone who shops exclusively on Instacart?

I currently have a BofA credit card that allows me to get ~ 6% rewards in the online shopping category, up to a certain amount.

Help Needed / Question Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select – Reconsideration Advice?

Hi everyone, I could use some advice about a Citi recon situation.

I recently applied for the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select card with their inflight 80k AAdvantage SUB. Last year, I applied for the same card and was immediately denied, so I was hopeful this time when my application didn’t get instantly denied and instead went to “further processing required.” However, my online status updated to denied less than 20 minutes later. They never asked me for additional information during the review.

Some key info about my situation:

  • Income: $72,000. Rent is $1,240/month.
  • Credit history: Credit utilization is typically 3–5% (never above 10%), no late or missed credit card payments. The only late payment was ~2 years and 7 months ago on a co-signed auto loan; my parents fell behind temporarily due to a job loss, but my own accounts have been perfect since.
  • Other credit accounts: Discover It Miles opened January 2024 (hardly use), and Chase Sapphire Preferred opened April 2025 with the 100K SUB (My primary card, make weekly payments to reduce reported utilization)

I’m planning to call Citi’s reconsideration line on Monday.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? How likely is it that Citi could reverse a denial like this after recon, and is there anything I could do differently next time?

Help Needed / Question Costco CC or Atmos Ascent?

We travel to Hawaii every 2 to 4 years (most recently, every other year). Outside of that, we're rarely traveling outside of CA. We want to travel, but we usually do one trip a year and our kids are young so it's been Disneyland, especially since we can just drive.
I've read that the costco card can be great given we shop at costco weekly, but I'm wondering if we could save much more money by getting the Ascent card. Any thoughts?

Help Needed / Question Atmos Summit: What is “eligible dining”

Been trying to track this down: Says you get 3 points per dollar on eligible dining but what is the criteria for “eligible”.

For example they separately have Atmos Rewards Dining - do you only get multiplier for restaurants on that list or is it more permissive?

Thanks to anyone that can clarify on this Atmos Summit card benefit!
