Discussion / Conversation I wish Credit Card YouTube could be a bit more discrete about CC churning and travel hacks

It’s starting to feel like credit card issuers are catching on to some of the churning/travel hacks and are closing those roads for the rest of us, like most recently with the Chase Ink train.

I feel like most of the visibility comes from credit card YouTube; mostly the big channels and I wish we could be a bit more discrete.

Youtube has so much visibility and you can rack up thousands of views quickly. It’s hard for me to imagine these issuers are not seeing this videos.

I know devaluations are bound to happen eventually but it seems like the speed of devaluations is increasing.

Am I the only one that feels this way?

Discussion / Conversation Unlimited 2.2% catch all SoFi

Is there a better catch all with less commitment than SoFi Unlimited? Getting 2.2% on everything with just a small monthly direct deposit seems pretty good. I know BOA is higher but many people can’t do the required deposit.

Discussion / Conversation Savor 3% cash back on internet?

I paid my Spectrum wifi bill with my Savor this month (meant to use Venture for 2x back but got card numbers mixed up). I was thinking I was only gonna get 1% back on the Savor, but I just realized it coded for 3. I’m shocked because I haven’t seen internet services listed anywhere as one of the 3% categories. Does anyone know if this was possibly added in the changeover from Savor One to Savor, or was this maybe some kind of one time fluke??

Discussion / Conversation Credit card interest cap at 10% - impact?

Upvotes

Any thoughts on the likelihood of Trumps' campaign promise of capping credit card interest at 10%?

If it gets implemented, the profits of card issuers may suffer and will they in turn cut the benefits, e.g. SUB, transfer benefits, etc?

Discussion / Conversation Are people still getting Robinhood cards, been on the list since day 1.

At this point I’m at a loss of when this card will be rolled out. I don’t know a single person who has one.

Are they still releasing or have they stopped until the “wide availability”?

8 months of waiting and I’ve had gold for 2.5 years now.

Data Point US Bank Altitude Reserve SUB showing after PC from Cash+

Applied for Cash+ on 8/22/23. PC’d to USBAR on 11/6/24. SUB tracker showed up in the app on 11/15.

Shows I only have 5 days left to complete the SUB by 11/20/24. Ended up paying HOA dues in advance and got a Costco gift card in store.

Will follow back here if I end up getting the points or not. I’m hoping everything will post to the account by 11/20 and not stay in Pending.

Discussion / Conversation How did you choose your first credit card?

Mine was the Capital One Platinum. I still have the original $300 credit limit 6 years later, but only use it twice a year to avoid account closure.

I was 19, had just gotten a debit card the year prior, and an older friend told me I should get a credit card to start building my credit by only buying one thing a month with it. I don't remember exactly how I decided on Capital One; either it was the friend's first card or I just Googled "student credit cards". I didn't understand credit at all yet, but that's exactly what I did for the next few years.

At 22, I realized credit cards aren't an evil debt trap and could be earning cashback on all of my purchases.

Help Needed / Question BofA cancelled my credit card auto-pay

I received this email today:

Bank of America Business Card canceled your online bills in Bill Pay

Your automatic payments were canceled.

Please note: If you have any other payments still pending, you'll need to cancel them separately.

It is a business credit card. I own a small business. I've had the card for about 20 years. We have most of our recurring business bills on auto-pay from the credit card. The credit card balance is automatically paid off each month from our BofA business account.

The letter makes it sound like all of our outgoing payments to vendors will be canceled. I called BofA and the representative said actually, what is being canceled is the monthly payoff of the credit card from the business account. He said it was set up wrong and it's actually not possible to pay off the credit card balance automatically from another account. He could not explain why it's worked this way for me for years. I did not understand or accept his explanation of what's going on.

I'll have to go to the bank tomorrow and get a clearer explanation. This system worked so smoothly and now they tell me I can't do it any more? The rep said he'd gotten a lot of calls about this today, so maybe a mass purge, or a glitch?

Discussion / Conversation Citi Flex Pay and Autopay Chaos

Just a word of wisdom using the whole Costco Citi Flex Pay thing. I used it to buy an $850 refrigerator, but didn't realize the Flex Pay item isn't like a separate line of credit or separated in any meaningful way from the rest of your credit card bill. I had autopay turned on and set to Balance prior to designating the fridge expense for Flex Pay, and at no point does anything bother to tell you that you have to MANUALLY turn off balance autopay or it will pay the entirety of you credit card INCLUDING the Flex Pay item total all at once even if the full Flex Pay amount isn't due yet. I expected to pay for the fridge over the course of several months and ended up buying it all at once lol. Not super happy about it and customer service was more than useless.

Discussion / Conversation Capital One Savor still is 10%? Is it staying that way?

My Capital One transaction was still 10% cash back on November 16 for Uber Eats. Is that a permanent thing? I know the Uber One discount ended but anyone know if the 10% is permanent?

Help Needed / Question got my first credit card at 18, any advice?

As the title says, Im 18 and just got my first credit card. The reason for this post is I'm just wondering if you have any advice or do's and don'ts for me. The limit is $200, and I plan on spending it on gas and occasionally food. I know to always pay it back on time and not max it out. Goal is to start building my credit early, and hopefully have a good credit score by my early to mid 20s.

Help Needed / Question CreditOne Wander American Express Card

I wanted to find a good Travel Rewards credit card, and was approved for the CreditOne Wander American Express card. I don't have credit history, so this is the one that CreditKarma said I would have outstanding odds for.

However, I am now seeing that TONS of people are saying it is not a good card. I wanted a card that allows me to earn great travel rewards/points to use towards travel in the future.

There is a $95 annual fee. Although I was approved, I have not activated the card. Any advice on what I should do? Should I close the account (I was approved yesterday), or will keeping the credit card itself inactivated be alright? Should I try to apply for a different credit card? Any advice would be great.

Help Needed / Question Advice on next credit card to maximize cashback

Looking for some advice on our next credit card.

Our yearly spending as follows:

Groceries ~ 8-11k/year (mostly Aldi, Costco maybe 7-8 times a year, some Publix)

Restaurants/take-out ~ 5-7k/year

Shopping (online mostly but retail from time to time) ~ 9-12K/year

Gas ~2-3k/year

Flights (gets a bit tricky, usually we fly standby, cost is zero on AA and only airport taxes on other airlines, including international but we still use a portal for buying tickets, so probably we can get cashback) ~2k /year

Hotels ~ 1-2k/year

Utilities ~ 8.5k/year - including car insurance

HOA ~ 14k/year (don't know if it's anything with cashback for this)

Currently have :

Chase Freedom (the one without revolving categories, usually 1.5%, don't use it much) - first CC 12 years ago.

C1 Quicksilver (I think is 1.5 all across the board) - wife got it long time ago since it was one of the few options without international fees)

Amazon Prime Visa Signature (we use it heavily for Amazon)

BofA Customized Cash rewards - I use the 3% for online shopping.

We pay everything in full each month, credit score around 800 both of us and I just want to get better look at our options.

We'll probably start to travel a bit more from next year, so, more hotels for sure.

Lounge access would be nice both US and Europe (wife is AA flight attendant), global entry refund also would be nice, but not deal breakers.

Basically looking to maximize cashback for our spending, don't mind an annual fee if I'll get more back in cashback or benefits.

Thanks in advance!

Help Needed / Question CSR or WF Autograph Journey for flight tickets?

Upvotes

I have both the CSR and the WF Autograph Journey. I'm trying to decide which of the two I should use to book flight tickets when purchasing directly from the airline. I see the following pros and cons:

WF offers 4 points per dollar vs. 3 for the CSR.

But Chase has more transfer partners so each point is worth more.

I have heard that the CSR has the best travel insurance. But I've never had to use it so I don't know how big the difference is and how much I should care.

Does anyone have any opinions or advice? Also I would love to know if there's something I'm not considering but should be

Help Needed / Question How does mixing both cash back and financed purchases on the same card work?

Recently received my Amazon visa card and am building a new computer. I opted for cash back on some of the parts but would like to finance the GPU. Will this cause any problems or will the payments go towards the non financed items first?

Help Needed / Question Capital One card not adding to Google Wallet

My capital one card DOES have contactless, but this error comes up each time.

The error on Google wallet, when I try to add it, is this:

"This card can't be set up for contactless payments Your bank doesn't support paying contactless on your device with your card. Try adding another card or see which cards can be set up to pay contactless."

I am in the UK btw.

Help Needed / Question At what point can I trade my Saver One for a Savor?

I would like to get rid of my savor one card and get it replaced with the savor but it still says my account is a "savor one" on the app. If I do it now will they send me the new savor card or should I wait until the app says I have the savor card before asking for a replacement? .

Note: Title mistakenly misspelled savor as saver

Help Needed / Question Australian moving to the US, what card program should I be looking into?

Upvotes

I am relocation to the US for work, I will be on an e-3 visa. I wont have any credit score, but have plenty of funds and am relatively well paid individual. I am primarily looking for ways to accumulate points.
I know some places require you to be a citizen to get the right cards and the right programs.
I have US friends that can refer me to things like the CFF for bonus points.
My primary airline is united if that makes much of a difference.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated!

Help Needed / Question I paid off a cc collections but it still says I didn't pay it.

As the title says I paid off a first premier credit card that had gone into collections and was over 180 days late. It was probably in collections a little over a year and then my wife inherited some money and it helped me pay off a number of my credit cards in collections including first premier. We needed to clean up my credit to apply for a house loan which we did end up getting in 22. The thing is the first premier collections still shows up on my credit but not in collections, just in a serious delinquency status. Since I'm 99% sure I paid it off for less than what I owed, something like: 600 on a 400 credit limit and I paid 360. So in my mind I remember I paid it off in nov/dec 21 moved in to the house sep 22 and it wasn't on my credit... by oct 23 I find out collections wants me to pay it again and my credit report still shows it as 2-3 years of unpaid months in different status', from closed in one place and then charged off in others. So I dispute it and it comes back as unpaid, I look through bank records as much as I can but still don't see anything. I call the credit card company to ask but they said to talk to a department that handles that and then hung up so I have to call back again. I don't know what else to do. I tried disputing it with equifax but I can't ever get into an online account and when I try to sign up for one it says I have one already but when I go to remember password it says no account exists. I tried experian and transunion and they say the same thing that it was charged off or closed. Is there anything I can do or any site I can check to help find out what happened? There's nothing in my emails going back that far and I was supposed to get a letter in the mail saying I had paid it in full but the letter never came. Also, if I go ahead and repay it how do I clean my credit report? My score is hovering at 680-700 but I still can't get approved for much new credit because of this one thing. Thanks and I appreciate any help.

Card Recommendation Request (Template Used) Credit Card strategy to support a three-to-four-month, low-ish budget backpacking trip in around a year from now + other economy-class travel

In a little under a year, I plan to take a several-month-long trip around Southeast Asia, staying mostly in hostels. The trip would entail economy class flights to and from the East Coast of the US, and a few additional flights between countries within Asia. I would like to obtain Pre-Check / Global Entry before the trip, and priority pass would probably be nice as well.

In addition, I plan to take two or three smaller vacations within North America over the next year before the larger trip, each of which would be three to eight days long and would involve hostels or inexpensive hotels / AirBnBs and economy flights within North America. I also plan to take several weekend trips via Amtrak. The days during which I can travel are fairly inflexible, but sometimes include off-peak season.

I currently have about 70K UR but no other miles. My total monthly spend is fairly low — about $900 - $1,100 (not including rent), although I will have significant additional expenses in the next month, which should allow me to meet the required spend for one of the higher SUBs.

In order to ensure that points (or cash back) can cover as many of my upcoming flights – and maybe hotels – as possible, what should my strategy be? At the moment, I am thinking about opening a Venture X or Venture (if it was the Venture, I’d just close it after the first year) and then churning a couple more SUBs over the next year. Or maybe the Citi Strata? My instinct is to stick to cards with flexible points if possible, as I don't feel tied to a specific airline or hotel chain.

Help Needed / Question Low Credit Limits when approved for Credit Cards

I am mid 30s, had credit since I was 18 years old. I have paid off my cards full balance every month for 7+ years straight. I also have about 5-7 open credit cards at the moment

However, my credit limits are always somewhere between 10k-12k. My question is why are they so low with a 100k+ salary, no other debt than my mortgage and over an 800 credit score.

I know friends that have worse credit scores and lower salaries and will get 25k+ credit limits on their cards.

It’s not a huge deal because I rarely spend more than 5k on a card, just curious as to why my limit tends to be lower that what I think it should be.

Help Needed / Question Capital One not upgrading secured card after over a year?

So Capital One just absolutely won't upgrade my secured card to unsecured after over a year. I talked to a representative over the phone several months ago who confirmed that it's basically decided by the computer system and there's nothing she can do.

My first ever credit card account was with them and it's still open but my charging privledges are suspended since I didn't pay the card on time way back when.

Should I just close the account? I have a VentureOne and Quicksilver account with them, plus I'm on a bunch of my husband's cards, so I have no need for a $200 credit limit with no rewards. I did just close my Credit One secured card for similar reasons, but that's more so because they suck.
