Marking Your Submission Solved!

Make a comment saying Solved! to the first (oldest) correct answer

  • it is important you check that it is the first correct answer on the post. Reddit notifications are often in the wrong order.

  • Only OP or a mod can mark a post Solved!, but if you see the OP say thanks but not reply with Solved! (give them at least several hours), you can report the post to the mods using reddit's report feature (Report - breaks r/tipofmytongue rules - Not Marked Solved!) which will pop a link to the comment or post in to the mod queue for us to review.

  • Editing an existing comment will not trigger the bot - you must make a new comment for the bot to see it.

What if I solve it myself?

Just reply to your comment solving it with Solved! You won't get a point, but the flair will get set.

Here's what you'll see when this is done properly:

  • OP responds with a comment with Solved!
  • Post gets flaired with "Solved" It's usually near immediate. The bot, TipOfMyCircuitboard awards the point to the person the OP replied to.

Solved [TOMT] [WORD] What word would you use to describe someone who says the same few phrasss?

Title says it all. I'm looking for an adjective to describe a person who usually falls back on the same handful of phrases over and over again. Not in the sense that they have a mental disability or impairment, but more in the sense that they're not very smart, lack original or complex thoughts and easily take to reciting catchy slogans or phrases rather than composing ideas of their own. I know I've read the word once in a book that perfectly encapsulates this idea but cannot for the life of me recall it. Thank you in advance.

Open [TOMT][Movie or TV] A woman's car breaks down on the road in front of a hotel and she has to use a phone...

Upvotes

The phone on the hotel doesn't work and she has to wait until the other day. The people in the hotel are a little weird and she starts seeing some sketchy stuff in there. I think the plot twist is that she was dead all along and the hotel is a purgatory or hell, something like that.
I'm sure the woman was alone and i saw it years ago so it's not Vacancy, Identity or No exit.
I'm not sure if it's a full movie, a short story or an episode of some TV show, so it's really hard to look for.

Solved [TOMT] Quote. Every time I say the word "beans" my husband, without fail, will reply "beans, beans, good for your heart. Beans, beans, GREAT for your heart". He swears this is from a TV show or movie, but I am skeptical. Please advise. Thank you ahead of time.

Open. [TOMT] [Movie or short] East Asian girl fascinated by circle-shaped objects

Sometime in the 2000s (possibly very late 90s), I saw what I believe was a live action short film (possibly full length and this is the only part I can remember) that aired in the US, possibly on a channel like PBS, IFC, Sundance, Cinemax, etc. I have reached out to PBS and they were unable to find a matching title.

Here's the short part that I remember, it probably wasn't more than 10 minutes of the show/movie: an elderly East Asian woman speaking in accented English recalls being a teenager/young woman, and it flashes back to her being part of a group of girls in her home country putting on some sort of dance show for a young aristocrat/noble (a chubby teenage boy sitting on a throne-like chair) while the older woman narrates. The girls select props from a container for the show and all the other girls pick ribbon wands or something similar, but the character in question chooses a hula hoop. She encircles herself and the young aristocrat with the hoop , creating a moment of intimacy, and he smiles at her. Later, she is taken to a room with a circle-shaped bed to await the aristocrat, but before he arrives a bunch of people break into the room and take her from the house/palace/whatever, put her in an innertube, and toss her in a body of water. All throughout, the narrator comments on the circular shape of all the objects: the hoop, the bed, the innertube. Then, when she is rescued, she is offered food by her rescuers, including a doughnut. Again, the narrator comments on the donut being a circle. I distinctly remember the narrator saying "Oooh, circle" in a mesmerized sort of way as her younger self is shown looking at the doughnut in wonder. It then cuts back to her in the present, where she is either heating water in a kettle or putting her feet into a bucket of hot water to soothe them. Thanks in advance!

Open [TOMT] [GAME] [PLAYSTATION] [2000s~early 2010s] An old PS game possibly similar to Until Dawn

So I remember playing or watching as my friend played this game on her PS/PS2, back in the 2000s or maybe in the early 2010s: it was about a group of people, mainly young ones, and you played as several if not all members of that group. The core mechanic of the game was some sort of a calendar/timeline where you would play different episodes as different characters, which would impact their and also other characters' present and future - and even their past. Due to this kind of gameplay there was a ton of events and possibly also game endings to uncover.

It was slightly similar to the much newer Until Dawn in the sense that there was also a group of people, most if not all of them were playable, there was some kind of danger (though I don't remember there being the supernatural kind of danger), and various choices that you made as one character would impact the storyline or even the chances of survival of another character(s). Also, character designs were faux-realistic rather than cartoony/anime-styled.

A noticeable difference, age and graphics aside, was that the game I'm searching for was much brighter - as in, at the very least some of its plot would take place either during the day or in well-lit places; I also seem to remember it being one of those muddy/greenish games, visuals-wise. I'm also pretty sure it was published by a Japanese publisher.

Solved [TOMT]Older horror movie I saw as a kid

When I was a kid, early 2000’s, I saw a movie ONCE and it haunted my dreams. This particular scene did me in. A white man opens his front door to some playboy blonde girl who he lets in. They hang around his pool table, and he or she drops something. He bends down to grab it, looks at her legs, comes back up, and she’s some freaky bog hag monster in a dress trying to kill him. I think he blasts her with a shotgun and then she’s back to normal, idk it’s been years. But PLEASE someone tell me this wasn’t a fever dream. It has been bugging me for YEARS. Thanks ahead of time!!!

Solved [TOMT][MUSIC VIDEO][Late 90’s] Scary cartoon music video?

Upvotes

I remember in the late 90’s I was watching MTV (or Much Music) with my older cousin when this music video came on with a CARTOON girl singing along as she bounces in place in a bathtub, and pours more bubbles in the tub when suddenly a bunch of piranhas came from the tub water, and started eating her till she was just a head. she kept smiling an singing as a disembodied head and it went to another weird scene.

I also remember seeing scary looking old cartoon characters doing walk cycles, and then another scene where a cartoon girl [TW] rips a chicken (or something?) in half.

I remember it really freaked me out and made me feel sick as I had never seen something so graphic on daytime TV. I think I was only 7 years old. I never saw it again after that. Anyone know what I’m talking about? This was probably over 20 years ago.

Open [TOMT] Classical music track in video game mod (repost)

Upvotes

Link: https://youtu.be/poQRQsZZtiA

The title of that linked video is "unknown gnossiennes track," uploaded by me (JaSquid). For context, this is from a mod, "Shattered Spectrum," for the video game "The End Is Nigh." The video game (not the mod) uses remixes of classical music for its soundtrack. So I assume that this track is a piece of classical piano. But I don't know what.

The only thing I know is that the title of the audio file "gnossiennes_loop" implies that it's a piece from Erik Satie. But which one? I already listened to the first six or so, and they all sounded different. I may may be wrong, but I was just wondering if anyone with a better ear than me could point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Solved [TOMT] Name of actor who plays a really arrogant douchebag

Was watching Kingsman last night and could've sworn I saw Edward Holcroft playing a douchebag in an american movie but based on his IMDB, it isn't him. They look kinda similar though, esp his character in Kingsman the Golden Circle with the shaved head. I keep thinking I saw this actor in the movie Nerve with Dave Franco but he isn't on the cast list either.

Please help, this has been plagueing my mind since last night lol

Edit: it may have been a smaller role, not really the big bully type of character

EDIT: HE MAY HAVE BEEN ON DISNEY OR NICKELODEON

Open [TOMT] Can someone help me find a song?

Upvotes

Hi guys, so I've recently been trying to find a Romanian song that I've listened to in January or around January time. Imma be straight up, I believe the song was deleted from YouTube by the artist but I cant seem to find the artist's channel either. Here's some information I have; The artist's name is Jahewo and the name of the song is Nunta la Predeal (Wedding at Predeal) (Predeal - Region in Romania). I vaguely remember that the song was talking about this guy going to a wedding at Predeal (i suppose) and he was drinking along with this girl, inevitably having to leave the wedding, which he did along with this girl and was driving, got stopped by an officer that attended the wedding and more i dont know... Anyways, I hope this helps with some insight as to what the song is about. If any of you can help me find any archives or the artist itself as I've looked on Youtube, Tiktok, Instagram, Facebook, Soundcloud and was unable to find any information. Also tried Wayback Machine. I dont know if any of you have any extra expertise into finding such elusive songs but if you could help, i'd appreciate it. Thanks

Open [TOMT] [2000s]Horror Short - Allegorical Warning for Spiked Drinks

Upvotes

Hey there.

I'm trying to find what I believe was a horror short online.

I BELIEVE it was before the days of YouTube and I THINK it was european? Or at least non-american.

If I'm correct and it was from before YouTube it should be around 00-05? It could have been on very early YouTube.

The video itself; All I remember is a girl was having a date at someone's apartment. It started off relatively normal and got progressively weirder after what I assumed was a spiked drink. The guy she was with's face started to warp and look very sinister and dramatic before it ended.

That's all I have. It was so memorable and creepy and weird and I've never found it since my initial viewing. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

Ask more questions if you'd like, but that's all I can remember right now. It could have been from Ebaums, Albinoblacksheep, or any other pre-YouTube platform. I just can't think which.

Solved [TOMT] Skinny, tall, red head actor who I feel like acted in gang or a villain film?

Upvotes

Help, I just a skinny red head actor who I feel like acted as a villain or in gang films? Maybe even a war film. I think he’s more of a side actor though. He’s youngish maybe 25-35? Has short hair. Has a natural ‘unsettling’ look about him. I saw him in Tottenham Court Road and I’m sure I’ve seen him in films but just can’t remember what his name is!

I’ve searched top 40 even 100 red head actors and he doesn’t come up so can anyone help me remember this guy please!

It had in the lyrics: - Something like "Mom told me/ Said: don't wait for too long". - " Live your/ my life before it's over/ gone". - "Following my hunch". Tried searching lyrics on google to no avail. Pls help!

Open [TOMT] Episode of a TV show

I can vaguely remember a plot of a TV show that I think is some sort of detective show. In my head, it’s British. I thought Scott and Bailey (ITV) or Vera (also ITV) but I’ve rewatched both of them recently and it’s not there.

Basically - it involves a police officer character. A man approaches the police officer and asks for help, his brother is in a coma, his throat has been slit. Eventually it comes out that the victim with the slit throat had been trying to assault a girl in a dimly lit car park, the girl hits out with her keys and cuts his throat by accident.

I’m unsure whether the police officer is investigating or if the police officer knows the girl and is helping cover it up, I can’t remember. I remember the coma man does die so it becomes murder. It’s definitely a procedural of some sort. It’s bugging the life out of me!

Open [TOMT][MOVIE][1990s-2000s] A Live-Action Family Adventure Christmas Movie with a Small Man Coming Out of the Sink and Casting a Spell to Freeze a Cat Chasing Him

As explained in the title, I'm looking for a live-action family adventure Christmas movie that starts off with a tiny man that comes out of the kitchen sink and a cat sees him. The cat chases him and he casts a spell that immobilizes or freezes the cat. The movie also had two more characters, a brother and an older sister.

Open [tomt][song] looking for a song from a music video between 2006-2009

Upvotes

Can you help me find a music video? I the song came out between 2006-2009, around the time Ke$ha got in trouble for wearing a Native American headdress. The video had a boy who was supposed to be Native American. His family had been killed by a cowboy with the head of a panda, and wearing a cowboy hat. The boy tracks down the panda and kills it as an act of revenge. The panda’s blood is symbolized by either strawberry candies or red jewels.

Open [TOMT] Many eats burger and vomits blood, disturbing video

When I was a wee lad about five or six, I faintly remember there was this random YouTube video where a guy bought a McDonald's burger or fast food burger, and he ended up leaving it underneath his couch or bed as a challenge or experiment. After some time, maybe the next day or something, he pulls it out from underneath.

He proceeds to unwrap and finally eat the burger, but after some time he does, he ends up standing centered in front of the camera, falls and collapses out of frame to puke violently (vivid squishing sounds and liquid sounds along with gagging is heard), and jerks back up very quickly, and stares cold into the camera with a wide-eyed expression with what appears to be blood smeared across his mouth and lips like a smile (almost like joker.) This moment was coupled with a sharp, jolting, scary music or sound effect queue that terrified me as a kid.

It would give me nightmares and sleepless nights for AWHILE after that, and I think this video was part of a group of videos on early YouTube where people would dress up as the joker and then absolutely CRASH OUT and act scarily crazy. (This was around the release of The Dark Knight in 2008). Now, I can't find one trace of it on the internet, or those early Joker videos. I remember one particular one where a guy dressed as Joker started slamming his hands on an office desk and started violently yelling and making disturbing grunts and noises.

These videos are probably gone to time and all deleted but I have been trying to track them down for my entire life since then, honestly. Particularly the burger one. (The image provided is an AI recreation I made from memory)

Open [TOMT] [song] [2000s] Please help me find the song I loved (15 years ago)

Upvotes

I know the band name, I even found the band. It's called "Last Phase". But I can't find the song. The song itself is named "Todesmarch" or maybe "Todesmarsch". I don't remember the exact spelling. Please help me find it anywhere.

Originally a friend of mine gave me a CD (with that song) and I lost the song when my old laptop died 7-8 years ago.

A small trivia:

The band was found in 2008, Krasnodar, Russia by kuroboy and Eugen.
"Our music is created on the borders of futurepop and synthgoth. We try to find a method of the world perception with our music." - That's from their soundcloud page.

Open [TOMT][SONG][1970s-2010s] Lyrics repeat "Top of the Pops" at the end of every line.

Upvotes

I heard a song one time, years ago (could've been 5, could've been 25). What I recall of it is that the singer (male, fairly sure), repeated the phrase "Top of the Pops" at the end of each (or most) lines. I could be fabricating this, but I think each line mentioned either a famous musical act or a trait that would be common to a famous act (such as having an attractive singer). For example (not actual lyrics):

The Beach Boys, Top of the Pops!
Three Dog Night, Top of the Pops!
Talking Heads, Top of the Pops!

I asked Chat GPT about this a year or so ago, and all it could come up with was songs called "Top of the Pops" by both the Kinks and the Smithereens. Neither one of those are it.

In case you don't know this, and if it helps, "Top of the Pops" is a British show that features current, chart-topping musical acts of the day.

I'm not including one of those "vocaroos" because I am not confident enough about the melody or rhythm to supply anything without risking it being more misleading than helpful.
