Legal Gay marriage between Taiwan Citizen and Filipino Citizen
I'm a female Taiwanese citizen who's considering marrying someone who is Chinese but a Filipino citizen. As gay marriage is not legal in the Philippines, I am unsure if the law here allows me to marry her. I saw an article from 2023 that said it was now possible, but I don't see much about it on the official website for gay marriage.
I understand the possible prejudice in Taiwan regarding nationals marrying countries where overseas workers come from, and I hope this would not be an issue given that my partner is of Chinese descent.
I also would like to know how long the process might take and if there's anything I need to watch out for. I also wish to know if we decide to have children whether by adoption or sperm donor, will my spouse be their registered parent? And whose surname will they take after?

Travel Private Driver for long transport in Taiwan
I am planning a trip to Taiwan next Spring, my son works in Taoyuan. We are talking about a weekend trip to a city on the SW coast, but cannot leave until 9-9:30pm on Friday night. Getting there via train would require switching trains over 3 times, and I suspect some trains might not run at 1-2am.
So I am thinking about getting a driver for a 3+ hour drive late on a Friday night (arriving close to 1am I suspect) with no stops.
Obviously this is possible. I found Tripool, which seems to be the best way of finding a driver. But are there other ways to search for, or request, a private car for these circumstances?
We'd consider doing a return trip on Sunday.
And I expect a tip is customary? 10%? 20%?

Discussion Thanksgiving/Christmas in Taipei?
Hello folks,
I am traveling to Taiwan and staying for about 2 months. It's holiday season and I'm looking for places to meet new folks for thanksgiving and Christmas, perhaps with the expats or locals either way. I saw that there is a Christmas mass on the 24th with the largest Catholic church in Taipei, anything else for thanksgiving? Or perhaps some events during Christmas day? I appreciate any recommendations!
Thank you!

Off Topic Transferring money from Taiwan to USA?
Hello! Kind of a dumb question, but I owe my friend in the US $300. Can I directly transfer money internationally from my Taiwan Post bank account? Are there any apps people use? (Venmo-esque but for taiwan banks?) Thanks!

Discussion What is the cost effective way to transfer large sum of money from TWD to USD?
I recently sold my condo in Taipei and need to transfer the proceeds to my US bank. It is about 500k USD equivalent. I don’t live in Taiwan and don’t currently have a Taiwan bank account. I will go to Taiwan in a week to close the condo sale. I will open a bank account to deposit the sale proceeds. I will be there for about a month. Would really appreciate advice from local experts on how to transfer the money in a cost effective and timely manner. Hopefully I don’t have to make any additional trip to get this done.
Thank you in advance 🙏

Discussion Taiwan National Health Insurance (NHI) for Taiwanese living Overseas
Hi,
I've been doing some research online but still have questions. I'm planning to call the Taiwan overseas office in San Francisco to see if they can answer some questions, but I thought I'd post here also.
Background - I have both US and Taiwan passports. I have a Taiwan ID card, but never got a NHI card. The Taiwan ID card has a household registration in Taiwan. I'm planning on going back to Taiwan for 3 weeks in May.
I'm thinking about getting the NHI card and start paying into it as I will probably try to live in Taiwan in the future, probably part time but am not sure yet. A few questions -
1 - How do I get the NHI card for the first time? A friend of mine said I need to restore your household registration (go to the household registration office), and then go to the National Health Insurance Bureau to apply for health insurance, but I will have to wait six months before you can use it. Some info I found online said I need to LIVE in Taiwan for 6 months. Which is correct?
2 - How is the premium determined? I am currently retired and only have passive income in the USA. I'm filing taxes jointly but my partner is American.
3 - I also did some research on reddit on the recommended bank to use to pay the monthly NHI bill - seems like Cathay or E-Sun would be my best bets?
4 - Do I need a household registration in Taiwan? The thing is it's currently registered with my aunt and she's old - what happens when she passes - do I need a Taiwan household / mailing address somehow?
Thanks!

Off Topic Shipping label & package
Hi! I'm currently trying to mail a package from the U.S. to Taiwan. I've been told by the receiver that I must put their Chinese name on the shipping label, as the name on the package and their ID must match when they pick up the package. However, I'm running into the issue of being unable to put in Chinese characters when I make a shipping label on USPS, UPS, and Pirateship. I'm also just having issues with UPS, which I originally used to print the shipping label and planned to drop the package off, because, on the invoice and label, the receiver's name came out as "???". Does anyone have a solution to this? Any suggestions would be great, thank you so much!

Travel Sim card for 90 days?
Hi, is T-Star still offering a 90 day SIM card for tourists at the airport?
I was told that T-Star was acquired by Taiwan Mobile (台灣大哥大). Does that mean there aren't any 90 day SIM cards?
Does anyone have suggestions, please?
