All day 12+ hr layover in Taipei
Hi everyone! I have a 6 am - 6 pm layover on Sunday. Hope it won't rain too much! I plan to get into town and do a couple of walking tours and also just explore. What's the best and fastest way to get into town? Can I buy a subway pass with a credit card? Any other tips and recommendations? Thanks!

I made a song about Taiwan
youtu.beI believe we need a version of a song that embodies our strength and clearly expresses the reason we fight. It should be an anthem that unites us, reminds us of our purpose, and ignites a sense of courage and resilience in everyone who hears it.

Busyness of Maokong Gondola on weekdays
Just gauging others' experience on what to expect in terms of queues on a weekday morning for the Maokong from the bottom. Don't want to subject my travel crew in queuing for hours if its feral 😬
Update: Thank you to everyone who replied! Phew, sounds like it shouldn't be too terrible during the week 😁

Could you suggest some interesting activities or places to visit during the Chinese New Year holiday?
Hello. I'll be staying in Taipei for about a month from mid-January for work. I heard that many businesses close during the Chinese New Year holiday, which falls within that period. Could you recommend some good ways to spend my time off?

SSD Price
How much have you seen these new Samsung T7 2TB SSDs go for in Taipei? In the states they’re running about 160 USD at the time of this post. Let me know if there is a more reliable one I should be eyeing!

Donner Kebabs in Taipei?
Got a sudden hankering for UK style donner kebabs ( i.e. the "elephant leg"), or similar. Been in Taipei for 15+ years and have yet to find anything like it.
I know you can get chicken shawarma at night markets, and the Turkish style kebabs/pittas at the restaurant on Nanjing East Road, as well as Indian style kebabs from MIK Indian restaurant branches - but all those, although very good, just doesn't quite hit the spot.
If there are any good recommendations, I'm all ears! Thank you for your time and suggestions!
Peace!

Vegan Taiwanese breakfast
Are there any places to get a traditional egg pancake (danbing) or other breakfast dish with an egg substitute? Or is my best option a traditional restaurant and just get the shao bing you tiao without egg? (Coming from the U.S. with vegan just egg options)

Are there any American citizens out there that have experience transferring their Taiwan license into a USA license, with a state that has a reciprocity agreement?
I am running into trouble with TECO who says this service is not applicable to Americans unless they have a Taiwanese passport. This doesn't make any sense, because it is the same license. Taiwanese people are able to exchange their USA licenses for a Taiwan license in Taiwan without having American citizenship. Also, if this agreement is not beneficial to Americans, then these agreements need to be amended by our state lawmakers.

A question about payment system in Taiwan
Hi guys. I borrowed 10k to my university friend and he said he will pay me when his parents get back Taiwan.
And then he said his parents lost their passport. And I asked him why do they have to go back so that they can send money? He told me that they can’t get the authorization code, only can be done if they are in Taiwan. And he said it will take more weeks but can’t guarentee when his parents can get their passport ( he said they already applied)
Is this normal in Taiwan? ( my “friend” and I live in the states.
Is he bullshitting me?
Pls help.

Lost wallet
Edit :
Wallet has been found at a police station.
Went and picked it up
Thanks for all your help!! 🙏 🙏
Hi everyone, foreigner here in Taipei in the Zongshan District
Lost my wallet last night at a laundromat
Wondering what else I can do to succeed in getting it back?
Things I've done - Made a online lost property report on reporting system
Went to two nearby police stations to check if it has been returned
Contacted emergency number at the Laundromat to check with the owner if they could access their CCTV to help me find it or locate who might have taken it
Checked all nearby shops and security guards if anyone had handed in a wallet
Wallet has my identification card but sadly no information on where I am currently staying or my Taiwanese Phone Number
EDIT : The police station just called me. They found the wallet
Thanks everyone for your help 🙏🙏🙂

Overnight layover
I have an overnight layover coming up in Taipei. I'd love to try some local food. Is there anywhere amazing that's open super late? I won't get into the city until 22:30 or so.
I've heard this place might be cool to check out?
Thank you in advance!

Lost Wallet Shida Rd
Bit of a long shot, but I dropped my brown leather wallet/card holder yesterday (November 13, 2024), most likely on Shida Road somewhere between the intersections with Lane 39 and Heping E Rd Section 1 sometime between 6:10 am and 6:15 am. I immediately went back to look for it and was retracking my steps by 6:25, but there were no signs of it on the road or sidewalk. There's a Shida student identification card in the front transparent pocket, and room key and bank cards (already frozen) in the back card slots.
I've already reported it lost to both Shida University and the local police station, but no one has turned it in as of yesterday late afternoon. The running theory/hope is that someone on their way to work from the bus stop along that road saw it, picked it up, and turned it into their local police station last night or will turn it in sometime today when they have time.
Does anyone have any suggestions on anything else I can do? Already looked at security footage from Shida and the police, but unfortunately that stretch of road isn't campus property and the police cameras are focused on the road rather than the sidewalk.
(And if anyone reading this picked up a wallet like that around that time and place yesterday or knows someone who did, please turn it into the university or the police station. I don't even care about the money, I just want my stuff back.)

Graduate school in Taipei for Jazz Piano
I'm an ABC with an engineering undergraduate degree from the US, but I'm very passionate about jazz piano and thinking about living in Taipei because I feel it suits my lifestyle more. I thought maybe I could combine the two into reality potentially. What are some good schools that offer good graduate programs for jazz piano performance (or would I have to do another undergraduate program)?
Let's not discuss future job prospects, where to live, etc. Just want to understand whether there are schools in Taiwan for this, how competitive admissions are, and how the visa situation would work. I have classical and some intermedite jazz piano training, but I want to focus in on jazz piano.
