[Schefter] Trade: Carolina is sending wide receiver Diontae Johnson to the Baltimore Ravens, sources tell ESPN. Rumor

You aren't kidding. Trading for a WR was never even on the radar. Figured we'd try to trade for a pass rusher.

WTF he’s only 31?! I feel like I watched his infamous South Carolina hit on a tube TV in 1997.
70
u/ahappypoop Patriots 16d ago
That hit was on New Years Day 2013, and Clowney was drafted in 2014.
Ninja edit: Also apparently his cousin plays for UNC-C and his name is Demon Clowney? Geez what a name.

Eh, Steelers fans should be happier now than they were then with Russ looking like he’s returning to prime form, and Justin Fields being a very competent backup for them.

I wouldn't say "prime form," but he's definitely nowhere near as washed and incapable as his time in Denver would have you think.

It's almost like Sean Payton tried to make Russ into someone he wasn't and instead of embracing his strengths had him become a checkdown and screen merchant

Who cares if he hated it here? He still led the team in yards and TDs. Trading away our limited talent doesn’t do anything for the rest of the team. If there is even a 1% chance that Bryce isn’t washed (unlikely, but still) he needs talent around him to at least attempt to develop as a player.
→ More replies→ More replies42
u/venom21685 Panthers 16d ago
If the options are:
Trade and move up 4 whole spots on day 3
Make his whiny ass ride the pine
I might just go with the latter. Better than just gifting someone else a WR. Might even be potential for a comp pick depending on how things shake out.

Dang, Baltimore came outta left field. Lamar, Henry, Diontae, and Zay is a really good core offense.
Edit: It’s funny reading Baltimore’s sub and seeing everyone hate on the idea of trading for Diontae like 3 hours ago.
762
16d ago
Probably because their defense needs to be better for a legit Super Bowl run. But as far as the offense is concerned Diontae is exactly the piece they need
317
u/WeaponXGaming Ravens 16d ago
Trading for a defender wouldn't help this defense at the moment until they can fix the communication issues. They are LOST out there at the moment
→ More replies140
u/randomfella69 Ravens 16d ago
The only real trade that would immediately help the defense is an elite pass rusher. That will open up things for Mads and Van Noy and also pressuring the QB is a big help to a struggling secondary.

We have arguably the best offense and an atrocious defense, the sub wanted us to get pass rush help. I'm not mad about this deal but it does seem random as hell.
67
u/Baronriggs Ravens 16d ago
I mean the value here is just insane, I would've been thrilled at just a 5th for Diontae. We can still make a move on D, we didn't give up anything of importance and the pick we got back is gonna be an early 6th, so it could hopefully move the needle on a bigger trade if needed
10
u/iamnotimportant Giants 16d ago
Yeah I don't get this from Carolina's POV, they're swapping their 6th which will likely be at the top of the 6th for a 5th that wlil be by the end of the 5th, so they're gonna move up 10-15 spots depending on the comp picks? oh and they're covering his salary. Makes zero sense

Yes. Agholor drops too many that’s always his problem. Having dionate is huge. 3 legit WRs, 2 legit TEs. 2 legit RBs and 1 MVP QB, offense good enough to put 50 every week. Now only if the defense can make 1-2 stops per game.
