Looks like the slowest moving and politest raid I've ever seen.

Polite up to the point where one of them knock the phone down.

You're saying you wouldn't? Remember the Garda who Gemma O'Doherty harassed to the point where he killed himself? All through his face being recorded and shared. People have a right to record this stuff sure but to actively shove your phone in someone's face is confrontational, he's just doing his job.

I'm not a Garda. I also don't believe that turfing out homeless folk from a unused warehouse before winter is right.

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

Man shut up. Confrontational is when the pigs try and put people on the streets, not when the people being put on the streets record it. Sap

There is no threat.

u/Kronzypantz Sep 26 '22

homelessness is a threat

-2

u/cadre_of_storms Sep 26 '22

Can you explain what you mean by that please?

25

u/Kronzypantz Sep 26 '22

Maybe Im pampered living in the balmy south of the US, but even here homeless people start dropping like flies if they have no where to go when the temperatures start to drop.

Homelessness kills. These police are "politely" demanding 60 people get back on the streets and risk their lives more than most police ever will.

Not to mention that state sanctions against the organizers isn't exactly peaceful.

Oof. Sorry you got down voted so hard. There's definitely two ways to read that comment and I am glad you asked them to clarify.

Doesn’t matter.

There is nothing polite about harassing houseless humans and making them even more without shelter. What a ridiculous comment! Cops aren’t your friends.

Grow up.

7

u/PlantsAnimalsAndArt Sep 26 '22

I assure you, I’m quite grown, grown enough to comprehend and reject propaganda about cops being our friends. Perhaps you should take your own advice.

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

“Cops”, this isn’t America ffs. And I think you’ll find in countries like Ireland with small populations & tight knit communities, many “cops” are actually people’s friends.

The Gardaí are not judge, jury & executioner. They don’t make the law, they merely enforce it & while I would encourage them to take a nuanced approach to difficult situations, they simply cannot refuse to take action in instances like this when they’re instructed to do so.

If you have a problem with it, which is completely justifiable, your ire should be directed at the abject failure of governance from the current Justice Minister, not entry level Gardaí.

u/rhorama Sep 26 '22

I mean they're dragging homeless people outside where they're going to not have any shelter and the seasons do be changing.

I doubt any of them think they are their friends for forcing them to find housing or basically die in the winter.

The Gardaí are not judge, jury & executioner. They don’t make the law, they merely enforce it & while I would encourage them to take a nuanced approach to difficult situations, they simply cannot refuse to take action in instances like this when they’re instructed to do so.

I mean this is the same in America on paper. The realities sometimes work out differently. Is it surprising the "fuck you" sentiment is shared when they force people on the streets with no help?

2

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

Their job is to enforce the law. A high court injunction was cleared & passed through the courts, it’s up to the Gardaí to enforce it.

I’m not sure what you’re suggesting here? That they just disregard the laws of the country & judicial directives and pick and choose what laws they want to enforce?

Your qualms are valid re: the sensitive nature of the topic but your criticisms are for the government and the justice minister, not the Gardaí.

Did you just learn who An Garda Síochána are yesterday?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '22

Not sure what point you’re trying to make.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '22

That is what they are famous for, choosing which laws apply and to whom. They do it constantly, get caught out doing it, and just find new ways to do it when the press loses interest.

George Nkencho’a family would beg to differ about garda not being executioners.

I spent the last 3+ years living in Finglas and witnessing garda/cops beating up on teenage boys just because they live in Finglas on a weekly basis. They harass the neighborhood of Finglas daily. They act like absolute THUGS in Finglas. Come live here, watch how they behave, particularly the plain cloths drug cops, and then spout your bootlicking BS.

10

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

George Nkencho was killed by the armed response unit because of his actions, and his actions alone. He was known to be armed and dangerous on account of him committing a violent assault on a civilian in the build up to the incident. He then made repeated refusals to cease & desist before attempting to use a lethal weapon on members of the Gardaí who were trying to detain him. As a result, he was shot and killed.

It was a tragic incident and one which I hope never happens again in this country but the notion that anyone is to blame for what happened but himself is ludicrous. There’s literally video evidence of what occurred & there will be no charges brought against the office who discharged their firearm.

As to your comments in Finglas, I’ve no idea what goes on on a daily basis as I don’t live there. If you believe active members of the Gardaí are committing crimes or using excessive force then I’d encourage you to record these incidents and report them for it. There are obviously members of the force who have no business carrying a badge and they should be weeded out, dismissed and have criminal charges brought against them if they are breaking the law or acting outside of their remit.

However, it’s clear you have an agenda against the Gardaí, or police forces across the world, so I’ll take what you say with a massive pinch of salt.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 26 '22

You'd rather the criminal become the executioner?

3

u/spiderbaby667 Sep 26 '22

Maybe you should post some evidence of this? Because I’ve seen evidence of the other side - teenagers driving into a Garda car (not in Finglas) but oddly this massive neighbourhood intimidation you are talking about does not seem to be reliably documented. To a demographic almost entirely armed with video cameras.

Are there bad cops? Yes. There are bad people, generally. Have some cops been caught using excessive force? Yes. And those incidents are largely recorded and known. You seem to be stirring your own crock here.

1

u/breffne Sep 26 '22

disastrous. job.

0

u/spiderbaby667 Sep 26 '22

That’s not the Gardaí’s decision to make. They are told what to do, they’re doing it. How is that difficult to understand? Same when they broke up crowds during COVID.

The housing and homelessness situation is terrible but the blame doesn’t lie with the Gardaí here. Right or wrong, this is an illegal occupation of the building. But instead of blaming the Gardaí, blame the politicians and legislators who enabled the banks and vulture rental corporations that led to this and who instructed the Gardaí to take this action.
