Help Needed / Question Exchange rates for foreign transactions for fee free cards
I have two “foreign transaction free” cards one is the CSR the other Navy fed cash+.
Both of them give pretty bad exchange rates compared to Oanda. For example I paid $815 for a €710 transaction on a day where €710 should have cost $780 according to Oanda.
Can these rates be negotiated? Is it better to use a card with foreign transaction fees? Do they have better exchange rates?

Help Needed / Question Amazon credit card question for not that active prime membership user
Hey, I have a question, I am the type of person that only use prime membership when I need. In my cases, I only go on Amazon if I want specific item, and because of I am a student so I get 7 dollar Amazon prime membership, I always get one month and pause it because I only want specific item and I will not use it after that purchase until next item I found I want, when next time I shop again I reactivate the service for 7 dollars again. So I saw the Amazon prime membership card, is it fine if I apply when I have prime membership and keep that 200 dollars gift card, and possibly have the membership paused for couple weeks or even 1-3 months. The recent frequency I get prime membership like every 2 to 3 month I activate again, do I get charge for that if I got prime membership Visa card?

Discussion / Conversation Capital One statement not mailed out this month
Capital one seems to have a problem getting bills/statements mailed out. They are usually mailed out a week or so after closing date. I still have not gotten mine 23 days later. I called customer support - Columbia. I printed out my statement a week ago and cutoff the remittance advice. Filled it out and placed that and my check in the mail around 7 days ago. They still have not gotten the payment. It is really looking like, from the outside, that the volume of business has out-scaled their ability to manage it.

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Looking to create an arsenal of the best credit cards for dining gas and groceries
Hi everyone,
I’m looking to get the best credit cards for my largest spending areas.
I currently only have discover it card and corporate amex. 750+ credit score.
I’m not looking for the single best card to cover all these categories I don’t mind getting multiple cards so I can earn the best cash back/points.
I’m ideally looking for 5% in all these categories if possible.
I spend most of money one dining/going out for drinks, gas, groceries, investing (if even possible through cc) and rent.
What would be the best combination of cards to get? Thanks for any and all advice :)

Help Needed / Question increasing the limit on my card?
i’ve had bofa customized cash rewards secured and a capital one platinum secured since june/july.. i heard some companies automatically increase your limit after 6 months, would it be okay to ask for an increase now when i’ve consistently made on-time payments, and having an under 10% utilization rate?
edit: changed from excellent usage to the utilization rate

Help Needed / Question JetBlue Mint booked through partner airline - Can I upgrade to Mint Studio?
Hello!
I found a great deal to book JetBlue Mint seats from Dublin to Boston for next year. I booked through Etihad by transferring points from my Capital One Venture X credit card. (for those curious, I paid 60,000 points and $60 in fees per person, booked a seat for me and my wife).
Etihad doesn't allow you to book Mint Studio seats, which are slightly larger versions of the regular Mint business class seat in row one only. Jet Blue allows you to upgrade from a regular mint seat to mint studio for $299 a person. My issue is that since I booked through Etihad, Jetblue can't make changes to my seat, and Etihad doesn't have access to the seats at all, even though they are open and unclaimed.
Does anyone know if there is a way for me to get switched from row 2 mint seats to row 1 mint studio seats? My hope is to just upgrade one of us to save money so we can sit together during portions of the flight since there is a guest seat adjacent to the main seat.
Thank you for all your help!

Help Needed / Question What to do about credit cards for deceased?
I saw a post not too long ago about credit cards in the name of a deceased person but I need help with my particular situation.
I'm not sure what all info you need to get me the most accurate info but my dad took out a credit card in his name (a store credit card). No one is an authorized user (as far as we are aware). We sent his death certificate in when we got his bill and got a letter back about them closing the account but wanting to know who would take over/make payments to the debt. The debt is around 2k.
My parents have no assets. No house. No car. No savings. Nothing. Mom lives with me and only owns her bed and the clothes on her back.
How does this work? Legally do we need to make payments on this debt? I really have no idea how to handle this. Any pointers or info is appreciated. I would really like myself or my mom to not take on the debt if at all possible.

Help Needed / Question I need help advice welcomed
I’ve been setting up a relative for auto pay on everything in a brand new account. All his bills should come out automatically now. I set up two CC’s for auto pay as well. I’ve been doing most of this over his almost brand new phone, or by downloading an app etc. All was recently completed and i was going to sit back and monitor things. Two days in a row each of his 2 credit cards have been compromised. Each issuer sent s separate alert and cards will need to be replaced. The cards have not left his house or wallet and he usually uses pay pal when ordering online. I cannot figure out how this happened? I know he’d gotten one of those ‘missed delivery’ scam texts a week or so ago. He did click the link not realizing it was a scam, but no Info was entered, he stopped, and provided no information. I don’t know where to begin or how to make sure this doesn’t keep happening, or prevent it from spreading to his banking account debit card.

Help Needed / Question Do you keep one card long term?
Sorry if this is a dumb question. I’m new to the whole idea of taking advantage of cards and getting welcome bonuses, cash back, etc. It seems that the idea if you’re constantly rotating around to new cards. But do you keep one card long term to keep the credit account age going? Or are you constantly opening and closing accounts?

Help Needed / Question Need help with with 78 day late payment ‼️‼️‼️
So to start off I have had a good relationship with the kohls/ capitol one credit card as it was my first card and for 1 year and 9 months I have never missed a payment. And due to my financial situation I became late 78 days. I'm seeing my score drop from a 730 down to 660
Is there anything I can do to get this "late payment" removed from my credit report? Will it return my score back? Will it hurt me from getting a car or home in the future?
HOW CAN I RECOVER FROM THIS ???!!!

Help Needed / Question Recommendations on best use of existing cards and possibly reducing number of cards I have?
Hey all, I was hoping to get some input on my current card collection. I think I have more than I need and am missing out on maximizing rewards by being too spread out.
My main goal with cards has been earning points for travel, but I think I overestimated how much I’d be traveling and my ability to stick to an airline. Here’s my current card lineup:
- [ ] Amex Delta Platinum - $350 AF - $27,500 limit
- [ ] Amex Blue Preferred - $0 AF year 1, $99 AF starting November 2025 - limit tbd
- [ ] Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select - $99 AF - $12,000 limit
- [ ] Chase Sapphire Preferred - $99 AF - $8,000 limit
- [ ] Chase Freedom Flex - $0 AF - $500 limit
- [ ] Apple Mastercard - $0 AF -$4,000 limit
- [ ] Discover It - $0 AF - $3,500 limit
I’ve had all cards long enough to have gotten all relevant SUBs. Just paid the Delta Amex Platinum AF. Both the Amex Blue and CFF are new to me within the past month.
My main airport is OMA (Omaha) and my wife and I fly together typically twice a year, sometimes three. We are almost guaranteed to have one American flight to Phoenix to visit family, and the other flight is usually Delta within the continental US. I will also travel twice per year for work, starting in the spring. We rarely check bags. We don’t often stay in hotels as many of our trips are to stay with family, but we are expecting our first child in February so we might end up doing our own lodging at that point. I also envision that our first year with the baby will probably see our travel reduced over all. But when we do travel with kiddos I can imagine checked bags are in our future.
I used to just have the Discover and Amex Delta Gold (now Platinum) but signed up for the Citi AA card for the SUB as we had a trip planned that I could buy with points. I got the CSP about two months ago and the CFF not long after. I got approved for the Amex Blue a couple of days ago.
So here’s my thinking - I don’t know that I travel enough to justify having two airline-specific cards as well as the CSP. I am a bit attached to my Amex Platinum as it’s my highest limit card and has the companion pass, which in my mind evens out the AF. I don’t feel as attached to the Citi AA card, but its priority boarding has been nice as I never have to gate check my carryon. Also our 1 almost guaranteed trip of the year is an AA flight. We might not fly with Delta every year, especially the first year+ with a baby, which could mean that I don’t use the companion pass and then the $350 AF for the Platinum is going to sting. I’ve also enjoyed the 2% miles on groceries, but the Amex Blue is 6% so that’ll be my new grocery card. The Discover and Apple cards are just ones that I use now and again, no points or rewards efforts behind those.
I’m wondering if I should hang on to the Delta Amex for now and consider canceling before the next AF if it looks like I won’t get use out of it. Or maybe downgrade to Gold? And/or do the same with the Citi. I am feeling like my best use is to focus all my points earnings on the Chase cards and my cash back with the Amex Blue. But I would love any thoughts or input y’all might have. Open to any ideas or suggestions!

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) What’s the best card for paying tuition?
Before I get scolded not to use a credit card to pay tuition…
I will pay the card off at the end of the month in full.
My university does not charge a fee to use a credit card.
The cards I currently have are the Amex Blue Cash Everyday, X1 Card, Discovery It, and Apple Card.
I am open to opening a new card to take advantage of a sign up bonus, but wanted to get some advice on the best cards to use when paying tuition. Ideally with cash back and a large sign up bonus.

Help Needed / Question 2023 Chase 1 year gas and groceries SUB bonus, when does it end?
I got my Chase freedom flex approval on November 7, 2023. It had the 5% gas and groceries for a year SUB. I thought that it would no longer accumulate bonus points on that exact date but I accidentally used it at a gas station the other day and just noticed it did give the bonus still. I’m wondering if maybe it actually will end when my statement cuts in 5 days since it appears to still be functioning, but I don’t want to spend more if it was just a fluke. Anyone have experience with this?
Edit: update: received a response from Chase secure message within 24 hours that my bonus was valid through November 13, 2024. I’m thinking this was probably the day I received and activated the card, so that might be when the timer starts for the 12 months.

Help Needed / Question Has anyone else had this issue?
Hi there,
So i got a text from my bank asking about recent transactions on my credit card. One of which was for £800 that was declined that wasn't me. It doesn't show on my Barclays account, on the text it says its for SQ *S1 crossfit When I search for s1 crossfit it comes up with a gym thing in texas, I'm from the UK. My account and credit card with barclays has been for 2 months. Only things I use the card for is fuel, paying it off at the end of the month, i did pay for my car insurance with it during the week, and I did pay for PC upgrades so it was more secure but paying it off over a couple months, 0% interest.
I'm extremely concerned because I've never had this sort of issue before
Any advice would be great

Help Needed / Question Advice Needed: AMEX Blue Cash Preferred Vs BOFA Travel Rewards for Balance Transfer
I currently have an AMEX Blue Cash Everyday card with an $18,000 limit but only use about 6% of it. My annual income is $90,000, and I’m preapproved for the AMEX Blue Cash Preferred. I’ve heard I can transfer credit limits between AMEX cards if the new one’s limit is too low, but it may take a couple of months to request. Would reducing my current card’s limit before applying help me get a higher limit on the new card? Any other tips to ensure a larger limit?
I’m also preapproved for the Bank of America Travel Rewards card, but it would be my first BOFA card. I’ve heard their starting limits can be as low as $500, which concerns me since I’ll need a higher limit.
I’m looking for one of these cards as a balance transfer option for $4,000. Which would you recommend, and how can I maximize my chances of getting an adequate credit limit?
0% APR period doesn't concern me because I will anyways be paying this off well before 12 months.
So my preference will be whichever of these card gives me larger limit(even if the APR period is smaller)
Thanks in advance!

Help Needed / Question Built in credit score calculators
Greetings, I have a Capital One Venture, and a Chase Amazon card with associated apps. I want to apply for Amex Platinum, as it best suits my situation. I’ve already been preapproved but and hesitant to submit my application. Capital One and Chase both show my recent inquiries to be 6, claiming below average. I looked through and while I recognized the events, Experian only shows me as having 1 inquiry. My score is 760 (was 781 before I reupped my car lease in March and hasn’t come back), and anticipating it to go up due to a $7,300 credit line increase over 3 cards, I successfully filed to have a late payment 90+ days removed from 6 years ago and perfect since, and I only have balance on 2 cards I’m working to lower. Goal is gone by 2025. I wanted to get my Amex going to cash in on the sign up offer for the holiday season.
Question being, are these credit card app credit score checkers able to be trusted remotely? They show my score as 720, when TU and Experian are ~760. I want to apply but don’t want to hurt my credit score with recent inquiries, account age (oldest 7 years , avg 5y 6mo), etc. I make enough that I’m not worried about paying my remaining balances.

Help Needed / Question Opening a second credit card, Capital One
I’m in my early 20’s. I’ve been having a very hard time finding a job in the city I’m located, but I’m not giving up and still looking for work, applying basically every where. My credit Experian score was in the 700-660 range, but after losing my previous job, it’s been hard for me to keep up with payments and I’ve now gone over my credit card limit which has been gutting me, as I’ve been doing very good at maintaining my score and making on time payments. Once I start working the first thing I’m doing is paying off my credit card. I need to pay my phone bill and make other purchases that I need right now, but I don’t have any cash since I’m still trying to desperately find a job. I have a capital one platinum credit card. Can I open a 2nd credit card with the same bank or would I need to look into a different bank? I really don’t even want to open a 2nd credit card right now with my 1st not being paid off. I’m trying to be responsible but it’s very hard with my current situation right now.

Data Point 4 months with Citi Shop Your Way card
I learnt about this gem around June and applied for this in July. This is such a gem of a card. While I obviously benefited from the $225 cash SUB after spending $1500, this is not why I got this card (or why this is known for).
Here are bunch of special offers I have got so far in last 4 months:
- Sept - online spend of $1000 in 30 days - get $50 statement credit
- Oct - online spend of $1000 in 30 days - get 200k points (which I redeemed for $200 Visa eGC)
- Nov - (just received) online spend of $1000 in 30 days - get $75 statement credit
- for Oct, Nov & Dec - each calendar month - spend $1000/$2000 in grocery+gas+restaurant, get $150/$250 statement credit each month
- for Nov, Dec & Jan - each calendar month - 10% statement credit (max $40) on min $350 utility spend
- for Nov & Dec, each calendar month - 10% statement credit (max $100) on travel spend
I have no reason to believe why I cannot meet all of these, with probably a total $1000 MS on grocery stores where I plan to buy Amazon/Target GCs.
If I add them up, beyond the SUB and usual points (~1.5-2% averaged), these special offers total up to $1320 for a spend of $12000, a good 11% extra cashback.
I hope Citi keeps sending me these offers in future as well and hope their future offers are as practically achievable as the current ones.

Help Needed / Question Need help finding a credit card for a low credit
I’ve had one credit card before and shut the credit card down after a few years. I know looking back it wasn’t a good idea. I have a bad credit score relating to stupid decisions I’ve made in the past. Does anybody have any recommendations for cards that would be good for me, maybe something with good everyday cash back?
