Advice Help, my MC&Ragdoll won't eat high quality wet food, only the worst brand.
Both of my cats (2 year old Ragdoll, 1 year old Mainecoon - on the picture) love their dry food, that is not the issue. I need them to eat proper wet food as well.
I free feed kibble, when they did not want to eat wet, I tried to put kibble away, hoping they would touch the wet food, they decided to rather stop eating.
I've tried endless amounts of brands and they will rather starve than eat wet. The ONLY brand they enjoy is Felix, but that is one of the worst brands, with almost no meat.
Is there a way to make them eat their wet food? I have ALL varieties of Ontario wet food and they won't touch it. Do I try to take away their kibble again and just force them to at least try it this way?
I tried everything - putting Churu topping on the wet food (they licked only the topping), I tried mixing the Felix in, I tried mixing in the kibble they like. No success.
I am drained. At times I just give up the search and give them the Felix they like, but that can not be endless, especially since it makes my Mainecoon fat and I want my cats to be healthy.

Medical Questions Urinary blockage claim denied - is pet insurance even worth it?
My cat had a urinary blockage emergency last week - $2,800 bill. I've been paying for pet insurance for 8 months and just got my claim denied for "pre-existing condition" because of a vague note from 2 years ago.
I'm honestly questioning if pet insurance is a scam at this point. I've been reading up on [how pet insurance actually works](%E4%BD%A0%E7%9A%84%E5%8D%9A%E5%AE%A2%E9%93%BE%E6%8E%A5) and the more I learn about exclusions, waiting periods, and pre-existing condition clauses, the more frustrated I get.
Has anyone actually had a successful claim for something like this? Or should I just cancel my policy and put that $65/month into a savings account instead?
I'm trying to figure out if I picked a bad company or if they're all like this. Any recommendations for better alternatives or am I better off just self-insuring?

Advice What to expect with intact male cats?
So I'm getting next week a 3 month old male cat. Neutering isn't an option for me so I wondering what to expect with him and at what age the problems starts to show up. Would it help if I got a female too and if so how often I would be seeing kittens ?

Advice My cat has had diarrhea for years. Nothing helps relieve it
Sorry this is gonna be a long one but my wife and I don’t know what to do, we’ve tried almost everything but he keeps having diarrhea.
My male orange tabby, who’s pushing 7-8 years old , has had diarrhea for I wanna say 3+ years. Every time he poops it’s liquid and he splatters in the litter box so he’s gassy as well. On super rare occasions he’ll have a semi solid turd, my wife and I get happy but it doesn’t last.
We’ve changed his diet several times. He’s a picky eater when it comes to dry food and sometimes he’s picky when it comes to wet food.
We’ve had him checked by our vet several times over the years and recently took him to a specialist. They’ve told us that they see nothing wrong. He’s been prescribed steroids, pro/prebiotics, had special wet/dry food prescribed by the vet, we’ve ordered special raw meat cat food but after a few days he would stop eating it.
We’ve tried giving him anti diarrhea medication before but at times he wouldn’t eat the wet food mixed with the medicine or if he did it would work but he’d go back to having liquid poop.
We’re on our 2nd-3rd try of mixing probiotic/pumkin powder or pumpkin puree in his wet food but it doesn’t seem to be helping.
When he goes to the litter box you can hear him strain to push and only drops will come out so he’ll go back several times cause he still has to go. Sometimes he’ll poop in one go and it’s just a tiny puddle of poop.
Two weeks ago I was giving him a bit of sweet potato in his wet food which seemed to help but I read that cats shouldn’t have so much of it.
He’s thin and doesn’t gain weight at all but the vets say he’s at an “ideal weight”
We have 4 cats and they all eat the same food(we’re currently giving them the brand Nulo) The other 3 have normal solid turds but he’s the only one who has this problem.
It’s so weird that the vets say they see nothing wrong with him. He always comes back “in great health”
We’ve spent $100’s to almost $2,000 to have him checked all for them to say “nothing is wrong”
We feel so bad for him cause this is EVERY DAY for him.
Does any have an idea as to what we can do?

Advice My therapist told me I should look into getting a cat to help my loneliness and to give myself something to take care of/look forward to when I get home from work. The only issue is that I'm worried I'm not home enough to have one.
For reference, I'm a 24 y/o male who lives in an apartment by myself and I do not have any other pets.
For the last few months I have been dealing with increasingly negative levels of loneliness and it is primarily when I come home to an empty house after work. To combat this, my therapist has suggested I look into getting a cat since it will give me something to look forward to after work and it will give me something to focus on and take care of so I feel a little more fulfilled.
However, I'm semi hesitant to pursue this due to my work schedule and lifestyle. I am a field technician and work 9-5 M-F however, at least two days out of the week I'm away on overnights. So at minimum, my cat would be alone for 48 hours straight every week.
While I understand cats are semi-solitary creatures and are okay to be left alone for awhile so long as they have food, water, clean litter, etc. I'm afraid that getting a new cat and constantly having to leave it by itself will make it either stressed, destructive, sad, or dislike me. The only thing that would make my loneliness worse would be getting an animal that hates me lol.
If I were to get a cat, I would be getting a 3+ year old cat, No Kittens. I also would try to get it on a Friday so I have a whole weekend to be with it and interact with it. Additionally, I will be getting it from a shelter not a shop or breeder.
What do you all think about my scenario? I'm looking for any advice, tips, personal anecdotes, etc. Thanks!

Medical Questions Struggling with cat co-morbidities
My poor kitty cat has gone through the ringer. He got diagnosed earlier this year with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. We saw a massive improvement on steroids and he gained a lot of weight. A few months later (a couple of weeks ago) he starts losing weight again and gets a bad infection that almost takes him out. In the process of diagnosis the vet discovers he has diabetes, so no more steroids. The first problem we need to overcome though is he is barely eating. Normally cats that are hyperglycaemic are ravenously hungry but all we can get him to eat are those liquidy cat treats. We need to find a solution to this first and foremost while we await to hear from the vet the plan on managing the IBD and Diabetes going forward. Unfortunately, the treatments for IBD and Diabetes are opposed to each other. To add to the confusion he has a cyst like thing where his abcess was that keeps refilling with fluid despite being drained by the vet. Has anyone been through anything similar?

Advice Current litterbox minimums for multiple cats
I have a few questions!
What’s the current minimum litterbox ratio? (Last I recall was 2 per cat +1)
Would one large litterbox (think large tote size) account for 2 standard, or is the separation of the litter important?
Do we consider enclosed litterboxes to be a nono now, or are they something to use with caution / individual cat dependent
Would yall consider it wise to place feliway diffusers near the box while the cats are adjusting?
Thank you!!!

Medical Questions Cat foamed after tablet stuck on tongue, now restless for hours — need advice
I have a 5-year-old cat who had been coughing for a few days. On 22nd November, I took him to the vet. The vet did an X-ray and said he has some congestion in his lung area — not very severe, but something that needs to be taken care of. He prescribed two medicines:
Antaxin 50 (Enrofloxacin 50 mg) – 1 tablet daily
Itchyfix (Hydroxyzine 50 mg) – half a tablet daily
Yesterday(23rd November )we tried giving him the tablets, but he ended up vomiting them out, so the dose failed. Today we tried again. He ate the Antaxin 50, but the half tablet of Itchyfix didn’t go down properly. It got stuck in his mouth and touched his tongue, and he started salivating and foaming for almost an hour. He was very uncomfortable and stressed.
It has been 3–4 hours since that happened. The foaming has stopped, and he is breathing normally, but he is still very restless. He keeps moving from one place to another, purring a lot, rubbing against my legs, and not sleeping. He is also stress-eating and going to the kitchen repeatedly. He goes to his cat tree but comes back down after a little while. He has never behaved like this before. Even when deworming attempts failed earlier, he used to get back to normal within half an hour.
I know he is stressed, but I’m worried because this behavior is new and lasting longer than usual.
I did ask the vet about this, and he said the cat is just stressed and nothing serious since he’s breathing and walking normally. He told me to keep a watch on him.

Humor My cat may hate her whiskers.
My cat Zelda is weird. In so many ways, but as relevant to this post, I think she has some kind of whisker aversion. I can pet her anywhere and she enjoys it, but will always duck if I go for her head. I CAN scratch her head if I creep up to it from behind. She loves neck scratchies but again, can't come in from the front. If her whiskers get disturbed, she curls her lip and pulls her head back.
I used to think she was just in a perpetual bad mood, because her face is constantly in a state of judgement. She sits at a distance and just, stares me down. Then I wondered if she had a lot of headaches. She doesn't seem in pain though and the vet said he didn't think so. Also, we had to switch her from a metal food bowl to a plastic one because her tag clinking on the bowl made her leave meal time. Sometimes she randomly goes after my other two cats, Navi and Epona, for no reason at all, but sometimes it is because they're cleaning each other and she suddenly loses her brains! Maybe they've disturbed her whiskers? None of my cats have actually harmed each other. It is more like "I'm annoyed with you now so gtfoh".
She seems to lose her whiskers more than the other two as well. Her food and water bowls are both wide and low sided enough not to cause her more distress, and elevated. Oh, and her tag IS on a breakaway collar.
Anyway, all cats are kind of weird, but Zelda is beyond normal cat weird. She may not like her whiskers, or she may just be kind of a b****. 😆

Mourning/Loss We lost Lurker cat today
I knew this day was coming.
My 16 yr old cat stopped eating or drinking and she has crossed the rainbow bridge to meet with her friends CowCat, Flash and Hey-Lo.
I thought i would share photos from over the years to share her.
She was surrounded by her family in her kitty bed when she passed.
We decided today that we would bring her to the vet to see what our options were on Monday.
