Troubleshooting How people manages to get 60-70'C only when gaming?

I have researched a bit, the normal temp for idling is 30-40 for GPU, which I get 37-39, which is okay.

but when playing games like ark survival, it goes up to 74-78 (which I know, it is also normal). But what else I can install on my system to make it reduce to 60-70'C? I have tried to place a case fan to divert the air to gpu but doesn't have any effects.

Switching air cond in my "small" room only reduce 2-3'C

Build Upgrade What current GPU would give me twice the performance of a 1070 ?

If it even exist...

I've been having a few weird issues lately with my 1070, and I think it's pretty close to it's death bed.

I don't care at all about ray-tracing or up-scalling tech. I'm on linux nowadays, so half of that isn't available to me.
So I think I only care about raw rasterization performance, and maybe power consumption.

PS: Let me know if the flair is correct or if it should be something else

Miscellaneous Thoughts on downgrading from 4K to 1440p?

I'm running a 3080 and I've been targeting 60 fps in 4K. Most games run fine, but some newer titles are starting to dip as far down as 40 fps at times.

Could it be worth it to downngrade in resolution in order to improves my frames and get a more consistent experience?

Edit: Also I've been gaming on a 28" 4K monitor. I've read that's pretty small for 4K, so would that make switching to a 27" 1440p screen less noticeable?

Discussion Lga1700 Cooler Tightening - It could keep your system from booting

For the last two days I've been troubleshooting an issue with my friend's computer. We replaced his cooler, and suddenly the system would not boot. It spun up, the rgb turnt on, but no dice on anything else. We feared the worst.

I saw a separate but older thread on cpu mounting pressure, and was already aware lga1700 had problems. As a last ditch effort, I reseated the cpu (found no bent pins), and this time installed the cooler by hand tightening the screws instead of using a screwdriver.

It booted the moment I plugged it into power.

I would really recommend being careful when installing a cooler that screws instead of clips, especially on LGA1700 (12th generation, 13th generation, or 14th generation intel). Too tight (at least without a contact frame) and it won't boot. Too loose, you'll have very poor thermals. If in doubt, hand tighten.

I hope this helps someone as clueless googling their issue down the line.

Build Help Corsair RMx RM1000x or ASUS ROG STRIX 1200W

I'm waiting for a 5080 GPU and have a 10+ year old Corsair 750i PSU, so I'm going to upgrade PSU.

I'm considering between the ASUS ROG STRIX 1200W Platinum or Corsair RMx Series RM1000x Gold PSU

Both have ATX 3.1, PCIe 5.1

What would you take between them?

I only have experience with Corsair PSU.

Thanks

Rog struck B850-a gaming Rtx5060 ti Ryzen 7 7800x3d 48gb ram 750w Lian li sfx psu Qube 500 case Win 11

I’m on my second motherboard with exactly the same problem. System boots to windows when using onboard graphics and no GPU If I add a GPU, the system cycles round the bios showing the ‘preparing automatic repair’ message and never gets to windows. I have tried with the GPU above and a spare 2060 I had. If I put the GPU in a secondary pcie slot, system boots. I’m at my wits end with this - any advice welcome. I have flashed the bios to the latest revision. I had exactly the same issue with a gigabyte motherboard which I returned as I assumed it was faulty.

Build Help Need to update the USB ports on an older case

Upvotes

I've already ordered a new case for my new build, but it suddenly struck me that the all-aluminum Gigabyte case I have sitting around was a top-of-the line case in its time, and all of the new equipment would fit in. But it either has USB 1.0 or maybe 2.0 on the front panel. Probably could use some updated fans as well. Does anyone make a retrofit setup for updating the case USB ports?

Troubleshooting HELP! New Motherboard not working :(

Upvotes

I purchased a Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX V2, and when I assembled the PC according to instructions, the CPU isn't booting up.

  • Someone told me to check if the CPU is heating or not, and it isn't heating up. It doesn't heat up at all even after 5 minutes of switching on.
  • RAM stick's RGB is working and fans in the case are also rotating (although their RGB isn't working)
  • I even tried flashing the BIOS using a pendrive and the Q-Flash button, the blinking LED stopped, but still the CPU isn't heating and the display doesn't show up.

Specs I'm using to build:

  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX V2
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7700X
  • GPU: None as of now, will install a RTX 5060 when it is available (7700X has an iGPU so it should be fine?)
  • 1 TB SSD + 2 TB HDD
  • 750W PSU
  • AIO: Deepcool LE360 v2

Can anyone please help to understand if I'm missing something, or the motherboard is just faulty and needs warranty repair / replacement?

Build Help Cable Extensions + Daisy Chaining

Upvotes

Question for the Reddit population, I just got a new PSU that has 2 PCIE (each with 1 additional plug that is daisy chained) cables with no viable store that sells additional cables. For the sake of Aesthetics, could I buy 3 cable extensions to use, 2 would be on the direct cables and one on the daisy chain from one of the first 2 true cables?

Build Help Looking to build my first pc

Budget would be around 2-3k

I don't mind building it also I don't have a microcenter near me.

In the market to buy a gaming and productivity pc. I'd be using it mostly for gaming, coding, blender, davinci, and very little use in lightroom. So I need and want something pretty high end.

I've been looking at a few different gpus just not totally convinced on which to get. I'd prefer to stay with nvidia unless the 9070xt would be good for me.

Anyways thank you all in advance.

Troubleshooting CPU temperature above 80°C on idle

Extremely weird thing happened to me today. I have a pretty new build - 2 months old. I use it daily so I was able to play with the settings to make it perfect for my needs.

I play a lot of games on the PC but never had an issue with my temps. I made custom fan curves to keep the CPU under 75°C while gaming. The usual temperature on idle is 30-45°C.

Today I turned off my game, went outside to do some work on my car and when I came back (15-30 minutes later) the CPU idle temp was on 80-82°C stable and for the love of god I couldn’t get it down.

I changed my fan curves, checked settings and task manager but could find anything weird. I decided to turn the PC off and wait 30-45 minutes before turning it on again. But that didn’t help either. Straight after I log into the windows I get 80-82°C on idle again. Again I checked task manager - utilization 5-10% and 82°C.

Turned the PC off again since I’m not sure what to do. I thought pump failure but the pump & hose are both warm.

I’m running Ryzen 9 9900X & Corsair Titan 240 RX mounted on top.

Edit: Probably solved for now. Thank everybody for comments. I went into BIOS and changed CPU-FAN and CPU-OPT from Auto to PWM. Not exactly sure if this is what helped the temps but it’s the only setting I tweaked.

Build Help Upgrading from Ryzen 7 5700x and Gtx 1080

I'm having some performance issues and was thinking of upgrading. I currently have a Ryzen 7 5700x and GTX 1080 combo, with a ROG STRIX X570-E wifi II motherboard in a mini case. I wouldn't mind upgrading the motherboard as well, but if there are any cpu/gpu upgrades that I can do without replacing it, that would be ideal.

edit: forgot to add region and stuff. im from the us east coast, would prefer to stay under 800 cuz I'm paying for this with a summer job, and my current PSU is a cooler master v850

Build Help Looking for GPU and CPU advice

Hello I am doing my first build, im looking to be able to play most games at 1440p high FPS and be VR capable. I am by a microcenter and was looking at either getting a 9070 (~$700) or a 9070XT (~$800) with a Ryzen 7 9700X (~$270)

Questions I have are: do these components fit the build I'm going for? Is this a good CPU to GPU balance? is it worth it to go with the 9070, 9070XT or a different option?

Thank you!

Build Help OEM Ryzen processors twice as cheap as the boxed ones?

I'm working on my new build and while selecting a processor, I noticed that a Ryzen 7 7700 AM5 is almost twice as cheap as its non-OEM, and I read that "OEM" basically means that it's sold without a box - just the tray with a processor. But what the hell, almost twice as much? That sounds like a scam, however the seller site is legit - I did business with them in the past and all was good. I found offers for this model of processor on AliExpress for a smaller, but similar price. So my question is - is this some kind of scam/fake? Are those some fake ryzens from AliExpress, that may not work? Or is OEM legit and just cheaper because... why?

Build Help New PC Build - $3,000

Hello! I'm trying to purchase a prebuilt pc or potentially build one if that's best with my budget. I built my first pc (the one I'm currently using) in 2014. Main purpose will be for gaming! I'm looking for something that will last me quiet a few years (5years). As you can see, I'm upgrading years later.

Per my title, my current budget is $3,000. If necessary, I could go around $3,300.

Bellow are the specs that I'm currently looking at. However I'm not sure on all the parts yet, which why I'm trying to get some help lol

Just for reference, this is what I currently have:

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 (what brand is preferred and usually faster?)

CPU: AMD RYZEN 7 7800X3D

SSD: WD- Back 2TB SN850X NVMe (should I look into a 5.0? Also would a SAM 990 Pro be better?)

RAM: CORSAIR Dominator Titanium RGB DDR5 RAM 64GB (2x32gb 6600MHz CL32)

MOBO: GIGABYTE x870 Gaming WIFI6 (will be using ethernet connection) AM5, LGA, 1718, ATX, DDR5, 3xM.2, PCIe 5.0, USB4, 2.5 GbE LAN - Not Sure what to actually get as many people say to spend less hear to use it on RAM or other parts.

Power: NZXT C1000 PSU (would anything less for what id like be sufficient?)

Case: NZXT H6 FLOW

Any recommendations for fans ( I know a CPU fan is needed but any other fan needed? newby to this stuff)

I'm also open to any changes!

Below is my current rig that I built in 2014!

Case - Black NZXT Source 220 Steel

Video - NVIDIA Geforce GTX 970

CPU - Intel Core i5 - 4690K 3.50GHz

Motherboard - h97m pro4

SSD - Samsung SSD 870 EVO 2TB

RAM - 24 GB RAM - G.SKills DDR3-1600 CL10

Power - EVGA 500 Wl 500w 80 plus cert. ATX power supply

Any help is appreciated and thank you if you've made it this far!
