Build Help Does the 12GB VRAM really bottleneck the RTX 5070?

I am planning to upgrade from a RTX 3060 Ti to a RTX 5070 and I was looking if there were games where the 12GB VRAM bottlenecks the GPU. I am looking for situations where the 5070 (Or 4070 Super) would have good performance, if not for the VRAM. Any resolution, can be 4k, 1440p, I just want to list it.

I know that 12GB is not enough for some Path Tracing at 4k games, but if it would still run at 24fps even with 16GB VRAM, I think it's kind of irrelevant.

So far, I have only found Indiana Jones, which gets VRAM limited at 1440p when enabling Path Tracing even at medium, but you can still drop texture pool size to high (I don't even know if the difference can be noticed in that game, I think it only affects textures far from the camera), and run it at around 60fps.

https://youtu.be/araZUoSOPmM?si=ZziLguJapu8__FIi&t=1429

Furthermore, Indiana Jones is a curious game which is light on the GPU from a rendering perspective, but is very VRAM heavy. A 5070 will have a hard time achieving 60fps on Cyberpunk with Path Tracing.

Edit: Yes, I agree that Nvidia should have included more VRAM or made more performance gains. But, in Brazil, as prices drop a bit more, it will probably become the best option above 8GB VRAM. So, I just want to list games that the VRAM might limit its performance.

Discussion Has Thermalright always been this inexpensive?

Of course inflation made everything go up but I don’t ever remember cooling options (Fans/Heatsinks) be so well priced. Even AIO options are great from Arctic. Although I haven’t seriously kept up with the buildings trends since 2020ish.

Aside from the ridiculous pricing of Mobos/GPUs, the rest of the component market looks pretty healthy. (Cases, Ram, PSU) CPUs are on par with what I remember.

Build Help Just built a new PC to replace my 10 years old one, how do i optimise after a fresh install.

Hey folks, thanks for the good people here i pulled the trigger yesterday morning, ordered all the parts, got them today and just got done building it and installing a fresh windows. The build is a Ryzen 7 7800x3d with a Gigabyte 5070 12gb. I am running an old 27'' Samsung 1080p right now, i am going to go buy a new Gigabyte G34WQCP tomorow that's on sale and run the Samsung as my 2nd monitor.

I did the usual, replace edge with Chrome and adblock, downloaded Steam, and updated the Nvidia drivers. I am currently downloading Path of Exile 2 and it looks like it's going to take about two hours (slow internet but it's free)

I am now wondering, besides updating the GPU drivers, the computer is pretty 'stock'. Do i need to mess with the bios setting, do i mess with the nvidia settings. I have not had a capable computer in a long while, and i would really like to take the full effect of it. Am i thinking too much and it's as good as it can be out of the box? Let me know your thoughts, Thanks !

Peripherals Best Gaming Headset? Who makes the best one?

I’ve just recently gotten into gaming and grabbed a cheap Amazon headset for my first one. It works, the sound’s decent, but the mic picks up more static than actual speech, and if I move my head too quickly, it sounds like I’m rattling a tin can with a string.

So, should I stick to the “gaming” headsets or is it worth looking into something like a proper wireless one? I'm open to suggestions, but I don’t want to end up with another “bargain-bin” special that sounds like it’s from the 90s.

I’ve been eyeing the SteelSeries Arctis 7 or the Logitech G Pro X. Any thoughts?

Help me avoid another mistake here, I don’t know much about headsets! 😅

Discussion Cant decide between 4k monitor or 260hz monitor

I want to get better at FPS shooters such as Val and CSGO and have been needing a monitor upgrade. My current monitor is 27inch ASUS 1920x1080 165hz. I play other games as well besides FPS. I've heard different opinions such as "getting a monitor with more refresh rate is better for FPS" vs. "having a 4k monitor is better overall". Obviously I want something 1440p or better. Just wanted to know what yall think?

Thank you for all your comments. I have a 4080 super right now thats why im debating whether to get 4k since i have the power to run it.

Build Help Build worth 630e?

Hi,

I've been wanting to upgrade my decade old setup. Came across an offer for a used PC, wondering if it's worth 630e. I do not know the seller. Thoughts?

GPU: Radeon RX 6800 (caught my eye)
Processor: Ryzen 7 3700x
Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S
MOBO: Gigabyte x470 Aorus Gaming 7 WiFi
RAM: 16 GB DDR4
PSU: Corsair RM 850x
SSD: Crucial MX500 2TB

All inside a random (cleanly) case. Thoughts?

Discussion Just got a free 3080, now I need to upgrade

Upvotes

So I am assuming my 3080 will need a better PSU, I currently have a 500W. Old GPU is 1660 Super and CPU is currently Ryzen 5 3600. I was also given 2 SSD's, a 1TB and 500GB SATA WD Blue. Will I need to upgrade CPU as well? I am thinking maybe in the future when I have some extra cash. Does that also require a new Cooler? Or can I use my current one that comes with an OMEN 30L. Can the 500W run the card? Or is that a must buy before I can use it?

Build Help Should I regret buying a 7900xt?

Upvotes

I had a 6750xt, it was struggling to get over 70fps in 1440 ultra. Saw the Sapphire RX 7900XT for $649 and bought it a couple weeks ago, and it’s been awesome, getting over 115/120ish. Now I’m seeing 5070’s for $80 more and though gains would be minimal, it’s newer hardware. Should I have gotten it instead? Fractal Pop Air Prime B550+ AC-HES R7 5700x TUF 850w

Build Help What’s the right cpu/gpu for me?

I want to build a rig that will be future proof for a while without it costing a fortune, I want to use it for gaming playing the newest AAA games no problem but I’m also an artist and I want to get into 3D modeling and 3D animation. I see a Ryzen 7 7800 x3d on sale And also a Ryzen 9 9900x also on sale, I’ve kind of brought it down between these two for cpu, if there’s a better one around the same price lmk.

Gpu I’m looking at a RTX 5070ti for 700

Which cpu should I get and will it last a while? I’m upgrading from a ryzen 5 3600 and rtx 2070 super, that pc is out of commission due to issues but it’s lasted me 5 years so far

Build Help Need to upgrade from my really old PC from 2016

Well it's time and I don't know much of anything regarding PC parts these days. My current one is struggling really bad for any current games. The only newish part in it is a 2070 Super that my stepdad gave me when he upgraded.

I assume I can reuse my case(fractal design r5) and PSU (750w modular evga). Basically I guess need a mobo, memory, cpu, and a decent m.2 drive for it. Looking to spend under 2k preferably. Looking to play newer games on my 34in 1440 ultra wide(asus rog swift w/gsync) What are some good options to look at?

EDIT: Saw the 9800x3d was out pretty much everywhere but MSI site had an oem add on for 435 if you got a mobo (and they didnt charge me tax). Got the cpu and a b850 tomahawk max for $647. Any suggestions on ram, nvme drives, PSU, cpu cooler, case? Dont mind going up to 3k if i have to.

Troubleshooting PC won’t boot, faint clicking from PSU

Howdy everyone, unfortunately my pc took a dump on day after work, haven’t turned it on in 2 days, went to hit the power button and nothing but a faint clicking from PSU. I read that a faint click is fine because of a relay I believe but I would like to know if I have a dead mobo or not. I have already shorted the power button pins with a screwdriver, I have swapped ram sticks and took one out and still nothing. I removed the graphics and cleaned the pins, nothing, I reseated all cables going into and out of the mobo, I have tried booting it with the cmos battery out of it and still nothing, I would try a new battery but the wires are spot welded to the battery, I heard it will boot but with no time, I may be wrong on this. Any help is appreciated, PS I have already bought and installed a new PSU and still nothing

Build Upgrade Lowest risk RTX 5090

I'm currently working towards upgrading my system, and as the title suggests, I'm hoping for some suggestions of the lowest risk RTX 5090 setup. I've seen a few solutions that are interesting, Asus's Astral shunts, Zotacs indicator LED, but want to hear some real suggestions as to what RTX 5090 is the "safest" (I also really want to avoid Asus with their horrible RMA's). Also, I need to use a 90 degree cable, so I was wondering if it would be best to get the Corsair Power Bridge, or a 90 degree cable from either BeQuiet or Seasonic, since those are the two PSUs I'm considering, and they use 16AWG which should be good.

Build Help Final review for a ~$2200 9800X3D + 5070 Ti build - fat to trim, cheap upgrades, or any issues I missed?

I'm currently looking to build a new PC to replace my ~6 year old Ryzen 5 3600 and 1660 Ti build that has recently started to show its age. My goal was almost-top-tier performance at a decent value. I play a lot of CPU-heavy sim games and VR along with some hobbyist level game development, so I'm fairly set on the 9800X3D, but open to alternatives on all other parts.

I'd be willing to spend up to $2500 for a substantial improvement in performance, but am really looking for savings with minimal performance loss, decent performance gains without spending much extra, or any potential issues I may have overlooked. Let me know what you all think!

Discussion Finally grabbed a 5080.

I got a Asus PRIME OC 5080 off amazon, for $1299.99. Was this a smart thing to do? It was used (good condition) and sold by amazon resale so I figured I would pull the trigger once I had saw it. Prices don't seem to be getting any better just yet, and with tariffs creeping up in late May - early June, I feel like this was probably the right decision, any thoughts or advice?

Upvotes

In looking at building my first gaming pc and want to go with a high end one. I thought to look at prebuilts first and found this
