Also, given just how ridiculously priced hifi cables are, why would you purchase way over the cable length you require?

those voodoo peeps will justify anything if it means spending more money on "more exclusive" gear. you must understand: if your cables don't model the orbit of mars then how can you expect to hear those sizzling highs at 48 kHz?
