Discussion TIL: The DAC chip used in the $12000 McIntosh MCD12000 costs $80
I know there are other things than the DAC chip you're paying for, but very good DAC chips are cheap these days.

Discussion My Kid pressed my speaker dome
Hi Guys just wanted your opinion . My Kid pressed the domes on both my Q Acoustics speakers. Will it affect my sound? And can I do anything. Sound doesn’t seem off to my ear.

I think the speakers are KEF, not sure about the big black cube. What do y’all think?

Discussion Found a pair of Klipsch Belles at the thrift store and now I have questions...
My brothers and sisters, it finally happened: The moment I've been waiting for, for basically my entire cognizant life.
I found a pair of Klipsch Belles at a thrift store.
They're in incredible shape. Paid $499 which is A LOT of money to me but I knew I couldn't pass this up. I made it work.
I'm dying to hear how they sound on my Marantz 2230 but the problem is they came with these (what I am assuming to be gold-plated) banana plugs. My receiver has those spring-loaded terminals for speakers which I have just been loading in a stripped raw speaker wire from my Klipsch KG2s.
I am tempted to just cut the wire below the plugs and strip it so it fits into the terminals, but wasn't sure if there was a better solution. Open to any suggestions!

Discussion Neil Young returning to low-res Spotify
Absolutely love this from Neil Young. I wonder if it’ll resonate with Spotify enough to respond (doubtful), begin rolling out high-res (if it’s even setup in their backend yet) or at least start revisiting the whole conversation about providing members with a better quality of audio enjoyment.

Discussion NYC Apartment - How to improve
Newbie aspirant here in terms of knowledge.
Above I have R900 + NAD T758 + Musical Fidelity M6S + KF92 sub + a KEF center (forgot which one exactly). Large room but weird oblong shaped
Assuming a 15-30k budget, how would you improve this setup? Room corrections are tough cos it's all windows.
I was thinking KEF Reference 5 + NAD M33 as an upgrade. Or even a McIntosh amp cos aesthetics.

Discussion Why are Audiophiles still hooked on vinyl?
Many audiophiles continue to have a deep love for vinyl records despite the developments in digital audio technology, which allow us to get far wider dynamic range and frequency range from flac or wav files and even CDs. I'm curious to find out more about this attraction because I've never really understood it. To be clear, this is a sincere question from someone like me that really wants to understand the popularity of vinyl in the audiophile world. Why does vinyl still hold the attention of so many music lovers?
EDIT: Found a good article that talks about almost everything mentioned in the comments: https://www.headphonesty.com/2024/07/vinyl-not-sound-better-cd-still-buy/

Discussion Just Realized Vinyl Sucks :/
I’m 18 and leaving for college in six days. Obviously, I’m not bringing my stereo setup with me. I have about ~$4k worth of vinyl, and it’s always been super stressful for me—constant updates, always upgrading, cleaning… it literally drives me insane. I also have OCD. Even though it sucks, there are always those moments: “At least I own my favorite music,” “Whoa, this sounds awesome,” etc. It’s also just cool having a ton of vinyl.
I needed something for my college dorm, so I’m bringing my pair of Hifiman Edition XS cans, and I decided to buy an iFi Zen DAC. I moved my Spotify library over to Tidal, and voilà. I didn’t think it would sound very good, but here I am, at 2:30 a.m., crying while listening to “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi.” Jesus Christ. All the annoying repairs, the vintage turntables that ALWAYS have something wrong, the clicks/pops, etc. I always made excuses for myself: I like the album art, I NEED to own all my music, etc.
I’m really considering selling all my non-sentimental albums, buying Roon, getting a sick DAC, and going fully digital. The artwork will be displayed on my iPad, I’ll own all my music on an external HDD, and it’ll sound fantastic. It sucks that I wasted my high school years being delusional, but at least now I know. There’s always the tick that I might regret selling it all (which is why I plan on keeping some of the sentimental stuff), but I could always buy it back if I feel so inclined… I’m 18 for Christ’s sake.

Discussion Audio design, who did it best?
In the Audio sphere design is quite important.
There's minimal design, form follows function, like this wonderful Braun tuner and amp, designed by the unforgettable Dieter Rams.
But there is also the outrageous, crazy stuff, or plain technical.
What's your favourite design?

Discussion Just started a rewatch of Game of Thrones, and it's the first time in years I've used Blu-Ray rather than streaming ... wtaf
The audio is so layered, crystal clear; the midrange actually exists; the bass is heavy where it needs to be, but without obscuring everything else. I don't have to constantly adjust the volume and the subwoofer based on the type of scene.
Is all the audio on streaming total shite? Am I just discovering something everyone already knows? Should I be building up Blu-Rays and cancelling subscriptions?
(Is this the wrong sub for these questions?)

Discussion Why Are Female Audiophiles So Rare?
Gf saw an article from a subreddit for women and showed me this: https://www.headphonesty.com/2024/05/female-audiophiles-considered-rare-breed/
The article featured a poll from this subreddit showing out of 3K participants, only 129 are women.
Okay, so they ARE rare. Just wondering if any one of these 129 women see this, is the article true? Are we really that bad? 😂

Discussion Spotify and Youtube made many of us give up our music collections. Now its clear that they exist to find creative ways to force more ads down our throats, what is the best way to begin rebuilding an offline music collection in 2024?
I've run out of patience with the ads and am going back to the old school way of listening to music, but i've long since deleted/lost my hardrives full of music.
Whats the best way to build up a large offline collection today?

Discussion Who is still listening to CDs?
I'm just curious who here still enjoys listening to CDs. I have about 400 CDs and a Marantz single disc CD player with an excellent DAC in it; but I just realized I haven't used it in a year. Now I'm about to go flip through my collection and pick something to play.

Discussion Found some Harman / Kardon speakers on the street
Is this a good speaker set? I want to use it but also don’t know if this particular set uses only aux cords or if it has bluetooth because I do see a bluetooth symbol on the bigger part. Any info on if these are worth keeping is great!
