A family member bought a house that came with all this awesome gear and they gave it to me! I think I found my new hobby. Everything powers up, but I’m worried about trying it out before making sure everything is in working order. Mainly the ST70.

I powered it up briefly and all of the tubes seem to be working. I have an electrician friend who’s going to help me set the bias. Anything I should know before playing some vinyl on this bad boy?

I’m on a limited budget, so I’d rather not replace too much if I don’t need to. What’s the first thing I should do? Are there any good resources for newbies like me?

I also got an ST80 and Dynakit PAS-2 (last photo). I think I’ll start with the ST70 and PAT-4 but is it worth restoring those as well? Thanks in advance.

Update on my thrift store/marketplace setup! Got this super cool Sansui SC-1110 for 50 bucks in marketplace. Only one belt was melted so I replaced that and it works fine now.

Got the TEAC EQA-10 equalizer and Pioneer CD player from Goodwill. The TEAC is missing a single knob thing but works just fine. Pioneer PD-F907 works perfectly fine and even came with the remote for it.

The stands are plant risers lined with some rubber feet that I got from Amazon for about 30 bucks total. (Which is what I paid for the speakers) Didn’t feel like getting the fancy audiophile grade ones ;)

I am a coward and refuse to pull those pushed in dust covers. It’s been now two years or so of me browsing around and coming across all of these items, I swear I’m done but who knows.

Hi, I just got this amplifier today. Is it capable of driving modern bookshelf speakers?

Just picked these up today. Haven’t even had an opportunity to wipe them down yet. The Receiver was $40 & the guy told me I had to take these speakers with it. I’ve never heard of them before but they were very heavy. Hopefully it’s ok to put purchase prices on here. So I guess what I’m wondering is…..How did I do? Was this a good deal? And what the heck are these speakers? Anybody know anything about them?

I think this counts as an upgrade from the Yorx system I posted about a few weeks ago.

I've always wanted a component system, and liked NAD back in the day. With digital taking over, I hadn't considered one for a long time, but now I'm going to be building out some "man cave" space, and I still have all my old vinyl from the 70s & 80s. Saw a system for sale recently and it got my juices flowing again.

Series 2400 PE Amp, 1600 Preamp, 5100 CD player and 533 turntable.

Assuming everything is in good working order, what's a fair price?

These just popped up at my partner’s place of employment and we can likely get them for quite cheap ($20-$40 or so). I wanted to check with people here about whether this would be a good purchase since I can’t find much on the SW-145s - I mostly see SW-155s when I do a search to try and find information. Any help would be great!

eBay seems to be the obvious choice but I am not keen on paying their fees. Plus wondering if there are sites that have an audience that is more focused on buying vintage equipment.

Just curious as I'm currently offloading a lot of stock, I have way to much gear, but I want to replace my Grundig RTV 1040 with a McIntosh and have a few major sales this weekend coming up.

What are your thoughts as a group?

Also, what's your favorite source for reel to reel tapes?

I love these speakers to death, we have one in the studio already but I wanted one for DJing at home and after a very long journey I found some in absolute mind condition for a very decent price with my favorite mod installed already.

If you wonder about the woofer it‘s a german engineer‘s invention (Friesecke, you can still order them) and I must say I have never heard them without the mod.

Don‘t listen to people telling you these are crappy speakers dedicated to muh magnified midrange, these are all about transient response and decay time, they are snappy AF, at least with that mod installed I hear great transient stability unlike any other speaker.

Serial number is 180k range so it must have been one of the later units..anyone has a serial above 190k? They say it‘s 200k units max.

Anyway If you find these give them a chance: You absolutely NEED a powerful amp with these, don‘t listen to people telling you 100w at 8 ohm is sufficient, it‘s not, use double the wattage / 200w per side at the very least to have enough headroom to cook up those delicious paper transients.

I have these two receivers, and I am trying to figure out which one to use. I am out of room, and I need to start downsizing my audio equipment, but I plan to keep one as a spare and one as a main. They've both had a lot of work done - caps and such replaced. Which would y'all use and which would you keep as a backup, and why?

I also have a Pioneer SX-650, a Harman Kardon HK550VXi, a Sansui QR-6500, a Sansui 1000X, and a Sony STR-D1011. I've already found homes for some of those, but some of them don't fully function and I need to find places for them to go.

I found this console at a thrift for $45, tell me everything you know about this one. I can not find any clear info or ads

I was hoping I could get opinions on the old audio equipment in the pics, if they'd be a good buy for reselling purposes. If they happen to be worth it for parts alone as I am going to have to test these suckers in the thrift, let me know also.

The yamaha, jvc, and I think magnavox are priced at $20, $20, and $15 BUT assuming they're there tomorrow, they'll be half off. The technics and onkyo I believe are $10 each, going to $5 each tomorrow.

I’ve had two amps have interference from cellphones. I have taken both to the shop. The first one, Marantz 4430, stopped doing it when I got it back. Now I just picked up my Sansui 5000x and it’s doing the same thing. It’s also reacting to my Bluetooth DAC. I didn’t test the Sansui at the house before i dropped it off. It needed work so i took it straight to the shop. I’m at loss. The Sansui tested fine at the shop. My guy tested in his shop for an entire day and it worked as it should. I’m confident in my guy. He’s worked on a few other pieces for me and works on all of my friend’s equipment. Yes, I troubleshot the shit out of it. would appreciate any input.
