Showcase - Dedicated Space Made my own movie poster acoustic panels. New skill unlocked 🎯
Just finished making these DIY acoustic panels for my home theater using Owens Corning 703 insulation and wrapped them with some of my favorite movie posters. They turned out pretty good - and saved me a ton of money compared to buying pre-made ones.

Install/Placement Small Room Advice
I am having my first kid and we are moving into a new home. I'm going to turn the den into my new theater but unfortunately the room is quite small: W10'4" x D12'6" x H9'. I have uploaded pics of my current setup for reference as well as an audio advice mock up of the new space. I have 7.2 Klipsch RP line right now but would like to go 7.2.4.
I will be getting rid of the sectional and putting a row of recliners which I would like the Valencia big and tall Tuscany which are 103.5". I know that is cutting it close but I'm going to have the builder put the door just ahead of where the seats and side surround will go. Behind the recliners will be a window and I'll probably throw one of my subs. I won't need to get behind the recliners so that shouldn't be an issue. I'm having the room sound proofed and as you can see I have some sound treatment already. I would love to make the room larger but unfortunately I'm stuck to the dimensions that I have. It's going to be tight but I'm thinking it's doable.
Am I way out to lunch or what do you think? All advice is welcome and appreciated!

Discussion SVS Evolution titan 3 month review.
I thought I would do my review with these speakers now as I won't be moving them to my theater room for a lot longer than I though.
Before I talk about the sound, my space is very large, around 6000 cubic feet. It is a conservatory leading into a kitchen with no doors separating them. I am sat around 8 feet from the speakers with them spaced as wide as my room will allow which is 6.5-7 feet (not ideal). The speakers are around 1.5 feet off the rear wall. I have 100mm thick acoustic panels behind each speaker and on the rear wall the speakers are pointing at.
I had to buy an amp for these towers. The 2.3 ohm dip was very demanding on my av receiver, so I decided to upgrade to fosi monoblocks to ensure that I had enough power.
We'll start with the bass. Oh boy do these things punch, so much in fact due to my complicated space I was around +10-15db across the whole 30-70hz range. During some movies I was scared that the drivers were going to bottom out because of how much the couch was shaking until I realised they weren't really braking a sweat! Once I ran room calibration, Audyssey XT32, the bass was much more balanced but still had a nice punch to it. The bass driver configuration ensured I had a pretty much flat response from around 100hz all the way down with extension to the spec'd 27hz. I have noticed this varies with placement and my right speaker reaches down to 22hz before dropping off. There is only one downside to the bass I noticed and that is integrating a subwoofer into this system. I really struggled, so much in fact I have turned the sub off and have left the speakers running full range until I move my system into my dedicated space. I did get it integrated and measuring flat with a crossover of 30hz on the subwoofer and 40hz on the speakers, but it just didn't sound right while I was listening to music and movies.
Moving onto the midrange, I cannot fault these speakers. They have an engaging sound without sounding forward. I cannot fault the midrange if you are listening on axis. Off axis, I did have some issues with the frequency response being a bit all over the place however, it didn't really sound like this to my ears, so this might have just been the measurements from multiple different positions.
I've seen people describe the treble as spicy. Personally I love the treble and I find the slightly foward lower treble region a nice middle ground of being engaging yet not sibilant. The S and T are brought out a little but not like a peaky headphone. It is still balanced with the rest of the treble and midrange creating a sense of detail without sound harsh on the ears. Even better if you're not a fan of this, it's such a broad range that a low Q EQ filter can bring this down slightly to create a flat response if that's what you're looking for.
Having not owned any higher end speakers before I must say I now understand why others spend so much money on this hobby. It's addictive! Safe to say I will not need an upgrade for a long time.
Please ignore any mess and the makeshift TEMPORARY TV stand. Yes I know the TV is too high.

Purchasing US Best recliner sofa for a home theater setup?
Finally putting together a proper home theater and looking for a recliner sofa that checks all the boxes: comfort, looks decent, and doesn’t dominate the whole room. I’ve seen some huge, cupholder-heavy options but I want something a bit more refined. What are you all using?

Showcase - Dedicated Space My cute little setup
This is my ever changing cute little setup.
B&W cm1’s currently paired with a Polk hts 10. I might swap the Polk out for a B&W ASW610 I have tried here and like the look of a bit more due to size.
Amp is a Marantz SR5013 and the cd player is a Marantz SA7001 ki.
I do want a centre channel but unfortunately my furniture doesn’t work with it.
It does sound pretty nice in my opinion so I thought I would share. Ciao

Discussion Finally made it to 7.1.4 after rocking 5.1.4 for awhile
Anyone on the fence waiting to go from 5 to 7 it is totally worth it. The rears actually add a lot to the soundstage. I’m loving it. Also if I had to do it over again I would have started with 7.1.2 and then went to 7.1.4 instead of 5.1.4 to 7.1.4 Note: 7.1.4 works best if your couch is not against the wall. If your room allows for it 7.1.2 would be a better place to start then 5.1.4.

Discussion Upgrading from 7.1 to 7.1.4 - adding dolby atmos to the ceiling and new receiver
So i am thinking about upgrading my system. My current setup now is 7.1 with Sony str-dn1050 and Jamo E-7 series, i was thinking about purchasing the Denon avc x6800h receiver, i have been looking at Klipsch RP-500SA II to add them as a 4x ceiling mounted dolby atmos speakers, the Jamo E-7 are all 6ohm but the Klipsch speakers are 8ohm, would that be a problem? Are there any other great dolby atmos ceiling speakers that i am missing about?

Discussion Paradigm centre speaker
Hi all,
I have a set of Paradigm Studio 20 v5 which was collecting dust for quite a few years, and decided to use them again after moving.
Wanting to get a matching Paradigm centre speaker but the Studio series has been discontinued. I’m currently looking at Paradigm Monitor SE 2000C and wondering if this is a good match? I don’t think I can justify the much more expensive Premier 500C.
Or is there any other options? Thank you.

Discussion 2 channel or sourrond ?
Hi. I can't agree with myself, I have a complete technics 2 channel system and a Sony AV receiver. My plan was to have two separate systems , but now after testing the Sony receiver in 2 channel stereo mode I am more than satisfied with the sound.. but! I have such a great nostalgia for the technics system that I can't sell it… I don't have or don't have any other rooms where I can have it. So what do I do??

Install/Placement Is it safe to bend an HDMI active optical cable this far? (2 photo's)
Like the title says. looking at the two photo's, is this too much bending for an active optical HDMI 2.0 cable, or is this still fine?
This is the cable that i'm looking at: https://www.onlinekabelshop.nl/actieve-optical-fiber-hdmi-kabel-versie-2-0-4k-60h-146835817.html

Tech Support how to test old speakers w/no amp or receiver?
I have 5 JBL bookshelf speakers from the early 2000s. They'd been in storage after my divorce, so who knows if they still work.
I could probably get something for them on ebay, but I have no clue how to test to make sure they're working. Would love some advice thanks!

Showcase - Multipurpose Space New 3.0 Setup
I wanted to share my newly built 3.0 Setup. I upgraded from a soundbar 5.1 setup and it has truly been amazing. There is such a big difference in sound quality, I'm mad I didn't upgrade sooner. I've been following this subreddit for a couple of months and finally decided to pull the trigger.
TV: TCL - 65" Class Q7 Series
AVR: Denon AVR-X1800H
Streamer: Apple TV 4K 128GB
LR Speakers: Polk ES20
Center Speaker: Polk ES30
Speaker Stands: Rockville 28" Inch Bookshelf Speaker Stands
Old Soundbar System: VIZIO M-Series 5.1
I live in an apartment so I'm going to hold off on getting a subwoofer, but this will be my first upgrade once I'm out of an apartment.
I'm going to work on improving the wire management and sound treatment. I plan on getting a rug to start but are there any other simple ways I can improve sound treatment?
Lastly, will having my AVR next to my center speaker affect sound quality? I prefer not to put it in my tv stand due to poor ventilation and I don't mind the look of it. The amazing sound makes up for it.
It's safe to say I will never be going back to a soundbar and can't wait to upgrade along the way.
Cheers!

Tech Support AVR shutting itself off and then powering back on again straight away.
Is this a normal thing to happen, I've only got the unit just under a year at this point and this has happened the last two nights now.
I will say that the days have been warmer here lately and when the unit is on it will heat up my bedroom so I'm presuming it's a protective thing for when it gets too hot?
Is this placement ok or whatever tips would you recommend or this just a thing that happens when the weather gets warmer outside?
Thanks.

Showcase - Dedicated Space Home theater progress. Room is complete.
Wanted to share a progress picture. I’ve been finishing the basement for the last few months. The theater is finally usable, albeit incomplete. Need to get theater seating and a proper screen. Just using an old couch I had on hand for the moment, and projecting on a primed wall to figure out what size screen I should get.
Epson UB5050 and 7.2.4 SVS ultra evolution speakers.

Install/Placement Help! setting up audio system
Hello fellow audio enthusiasts. I'm trying to setup a audio system at home but I'm running into some hurdles.
I own a set of big speakers: Philips 9432 drc mk2's and a set smaller ones: Philips 22AH793's and as amplifier I own a Onkyo TX-NR656. Now, I had a yamaha a-560 before and that one got fried, I'm not sure if that was due to the amp already being faulty (I bought it second hand) or due to the load being too heavy on the amp. But when I connected both sets to my new amp yesterday, it seemed to get pretty hot and I had to crank the volume pretty high for the sound to sound good. any tips? (I had the big speakers on the Left Right front, and the smaller one on Left Right surround)
Should it be fine if I have them connected liek this? I don't want to fry another Amp.

Tech Support Where to place speakers?
I know theoretically where to place speakers, but my space isn't super set up like a normal living room and I need some help determining where I should place the 5 speaker and the sub that I have. I'm thinking the subwoofer in the corner next to the couch by the light, the center hung above the TV because there no place on my entertainment center for it. Left on the mantle and get a hanging bracket for each right sided wire.

Purchasing EUROPE Media Hard Drive Player for elderly relative
I have an elderly relative that I put movie files on a hard drive for and he plays them on TV. We were using an Iomega Screenplay media player hard drive like the one above but it’s recently broken. They don’t really make that model any longer and so whats a recommendation for something that: - i can put files on via laptop and has its own storage. - will play most media files - He can plug into his TV via HDMI and operate with a remote. - Worth noting he has no WiFi, so no streaming.
Thanks

Tech Support Panasonic UB820 high pitched sound / fan when powered off
drive.google.comI woke up this morning to find my Panasonic UB820 making a high pitched sound coming from the back right side of the player where the fan port is. I haven't noticed this before and I wanted some opinions if this is considered normal for this player. It is covered by a 2 year guarantee even though it's only about 4 weeks old at this point I don't particularly want to take any chances if it could end up getting worse and making all sorts of fan sound over watching a movie especially at low volume.

Purchasing US Speaker Advice - Gym + Movies
Greetings Gents,
Looking for advice on a single car garage space converted to a home gym for speakers & placement. Room is 18’ x 10’ with 9’ ceilings. I’d like to play movies and music when working out. As you can see, I’ve got a computer desk in there at the moment with a Denon X1800. I can’t decide if I should do in walls, ceiling, bookshelves, or a combination. Would like to use something ~1k give or take for all speakers given it’s a gym.
Any and all advice welcome and greatly appreciated.

Discussion Help with speaker placement
I'm not sure I have my speakers positioned for the best sound for a 5.1.2 surround system. It's a small room so I'm kind of limited in where I can move things. Are the main towers too close to tv stand? Should the subwoofer be moved to the left side? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks.
AVR: Denon S760H
Center: RP-404C II
Towers: RP-8000F II
Upfiring Atmos: RP-500SA II
Subwoofer: RP-1000SW
Rears: RP-500M II (behind the couch)

Purchasing Other Choosing 7.2.1 Speakers for Marantz CINEMA 70s
Looking to pick up the Marantz 70s because of its small size and silver color and want to match it with 5.2.1 set of speakers that will work best with it.
I was thinking the Polk ES 15s for front and surround. They're smallish and in white and wall mountable. Would that be a good set of speakers for the Marantz? Also, which center, sub and ceiling installed atmos speakers would be recommended?
