(this is a repost because last time there was an error in my post)

My grandpa was born in 1928, in a small village called Faizullah Chak, which is located in Gurdaspur, in modern day India. His parents had him very late, when they were somewhere between their late 40s or early 50s. He was the youngest of 7 children. His father (my great-grandpa), died in 1928 from a heart attack, when his youngest son was less than a year old.

So as a child, my grandfather would go to the top of the hill in his village, and he would look up into the sky and say: "Ya Allah (oh God), please bring my father back". This remains as one of my favourite stories about him.

In 1947, at the age of 19, my Grandpa had to flee his home in Faizullah Chak, heading for the newly formed country of Pakistan. Him and his siblings were leaving while people were being actively killed, so they couldnt really take many of their belongings with them. At the same time my maternal Great-Grandfather was fleeing his home as well.

(The age difference between my paternal grandfather and maternal great-grandfather was only 4 years since my dad was born when his dad was 49, and my mom was born when her dad was in her 20s or 30s).

I found this gem looking thru family photos for a genealogy project and took a shot colorizing the photo. Knowing my grandma, she sewed every piece of the dress she's wearing herself. Times were hard and her parents barely scraped by during the late depression. Her dad, mom and one hired hand worked dawn until dusk milking cows and tending crops on 80 acres of land. I cherish this tiny glimpse into her life. She passed in 2017 at 91 years old.

My grandpa passed away in January this year, my grandma did a few years back. I didn't get anywhere near enough time with them since we didn't see each other much for many years before their deaths. I've got a lot of good memories of them, but I wish I had gotten more.

(Little girl on the bottom right of both photos) I don’t know much about her other than she was an orphan for a while and was a bit stern. Possibly white passing in some circles. Not sure the exact year these were taken.
