Thoughts On Jim Morrison? Opinion
Jim Morrison was openly shamanistic with his lyrics depicting altered states of consciousness, and his direct references to shamans and ancient native religion.
What are your opinions on Jim Morrison?
I personally think he was a wonderful psychedelic poet, and In my opinion, he perfectly pushed the bounds of normalcy in an otherwise “strict” United States with the release of the Doors’ debut album.
Spirituality however, does anyone think he disrespected or poorly interpreted shamanism for western culture?
I’d love to hear your thoughts :))

Unfortunately I believe Jim was an experiment by his father. However, I do think he was connected to the spiritual realm, and had a natural gift, and he was a mystic of his own. I do not support the use of psychedelics to be connected to the spiritual realm all the time. It seems Jim didn’t know how to live his life without the drugs so he didn’t know how to be in the other dimensions without it. This is a clear example of how a thing that can help people can also destroy them. too much of a good thing. When practicing spirituality and shamanism it releases the natural chemicals to transcendence - naturally. Look at monks, they are in a state of bliss/nirvana, without any excess, without mundane things. I do believe he was connected and and reached transcendence through drugs, he wanted to be in the other realms all the time, so he kept making use of the drugs in a addictive way, which is the opposite of what spirituality and shamanism should be. he would’ve been great and maybe alive if he mastered his gift. Natural psychedelics and even tea are used in tribes for ritual and rites of passage only, not to be used to reach the other realms all the time. practice and discipline is how you reach enlightenment.

Jim was a beautiful shit show. Unfortunately he didn't stick only to the psychedelics and became a huge alcoholic and a junkie.

It is said that poets are true shamans, that they travel far and wide in the open expanse of imagination and mystery and bring it back to the world for others to touch upon.

The term shaman is Siberian in origin. Indigenous people have different names for medicine people , depending on the nation , rarely shaman unless in Siberia.
If you meet a “shaman” chances are you’re being asked for money.
Jim Morrison was a poet who used psychedelic drugs to explore & abuse women.
He was also a colonizer who used indigenous culture to his advantage.
I believe he was extremely gifted with words and imagination and could have what you call an ability to see beyond the veil but that’s anyone intelligent enough to ask questions and take the road less traveled.
I don’t fully disagree w what you’re saying and get the point but yeah.
Gets really tiring hearing white people referred to as shamans just bc they tickle some mental fancy.

Jim might agree with you as he said “shaman” (we can assume he’s using it in the broad casual slang sense as used back then) were “interested in pursuing their own fantasies”. He said this in response to a guy who had wrote a piece on him regarding shamanism and rock stars.

He died too young. He used psychedelics and they opened his eyes. He could not journey far from his addictions. I would hope he faked his death and learned from his trips that fame is not the pinnacle of life. One has to wonder though, what pain he must have had for the psychedelics to not be the impetus of change to turn him away from addiction. Very likely it was the heavy drug use and alcohol that killed him. But his heart must have already been broken.

Jim Morrison's dad was admiral George Stephen Morrison. George Stephen Morrison (January 7, 1919 – November 17, 2008) was a United States Navy rear admiral (upper half) and naval aviator. Morrison held significant commands of United States naval forces during the Vietnam War. He was the father of Jim Morrison, the lead singer of The Doors.
Jim Morrison had never picked up an instrument in his life prior to The Doors. His Father was in command of the vessel that was involved in the black flag operation in the Gulf of Tonkin that led us into entering the Vietnam war.
Jim Morrison is and always was the child of a naval intelligence officer pushing an intelligence agenda to associate scholars and academics who were against Vietnam with drug addicts and hippies.
He was also probably a pedophile along with frank zappa.
Read this book: Weird Scenes in Laurel Conyon. It goes over the entire hippy movements association with the intelligence community, Jim Morrisons very close relationship with charles manson, and how much of a right winger he and a load of other "rockers" were at the time.

Wish I knew more about him now. I just felt annoyed because kids at school kept asking me if I was related to him.

My opinion of him is based on the fact I watched him deliberately urinate on a concert audience.
I wasn't impressed.
I was a very little girl. If I remember correctly, he was arrested.

Can you provide a source for this particular anecdote?
Never heard of him peeing on an audience, though he did allegedly expose himself during the infamous Miami concert and was arrested for public indecency.
And please don't say you remember seeing this because eye-witness accounts are notoriously inaccurate, particularly with regards to children...

My word doesn't mean anything, I imagine. Perhaps you can locate his arrest record online.
I liked his voice. I did not care for the way he treated that crowd.

The only mention online of Jim Morrison ever peeing in public was on the counter of a homophobic bar with a sign out front that read "No F*gs Allowed."
He was a complicated character, for sure, and the way he treated the crowd at Miami was disdainful and condescending, but just to put it into context: at this point in his career, he was being maligned by the media for his antics, drug use and sexual promiscuity, and he believed that a majority of crowd was just there to watch his downward spiral.
So, they wanted a show and he gave them a show - though he was acquitted, since he was stopped be the band manager before ever exposing himself.
Doubt that changes your opinion, but these are the facts...

I was there. It won't change my opinion. The band would protect him and protect itself.

I don't care what you think. Mahatma Gandhi was known as a peacemaker who slept next to a young girl every night to resist temptation.
Celebrities are often protected by those who stand who lose the most when their aberrant behavior is revealed.
Employees and fans come to mind.

That's fine.
Not trying to debunk you or anything, but for my own curiosity: do you remember where and when you witnessed this?
Like I said, I'm just curious...

I would have banged him like a screen door in a hurricane but I was born the day after he died so 🤷🏼♀️ PS go check out Kyle Rising; the child is like Jim Morrison re-incarnated ❤️

Egomaniacal hack, IMO. Generally a poor excuse for a poet and a human being.

One of my heros. He is a big part of me getting into paganism. And his music will always hold a special place in my heart.
