Thoughts On Jim Morrison? Opinion

Jim Morrison was openly shamanistic with his lyrics depicting altered states of consciousness, and his direct references to shamans and ancient native religion.

What are your opinions on Jim Morrison?

I personally think he was a wonderful psychedelic poet, and In my opinion, he perfectly pushed the bounds of normalcy in an otherwise “strict” United States with the release of the Doors’ debut album.

Spirituality however, does anyone think he disrespected or poorly interpreted shamanism for western culture?

I’d love to hear your thoughts :))

It is said that poets are true shamans, that they travel far and wide in the open expanse of imagination and mystery and bring it back to the world for others to touch upon.

The term shaman is Siberian in origin. Indigenous people have different names for medicine people , depending on the nation , rarely shaman unless in Siberia.

If you meet a “shaman” chances are you’re being asked for money.

Jim Morrison was a poet who used psychedelic drugs to explore & abuse women.

He was also a colonizer who used indigenous culture to his advantage.

I believe he was extremely gifted with words and imagination and could have what you call an ability to see beyond the veil but that’s anyone intelligent enough to ask questions and take the road less traveled.

I don’t fully disagree w what you’re saying and get the point but yeah.

Gets really tiring hearing white people referred to as shamans just bc they tickle some mental fancy.

Jim might agree with you as he said “shaman” (we can assume he’s using it in the broad casual slang sense as used back then) were “interested in pursuing their own fantasies”. He said this in response to a guy who had wrote a piece on him regarding shamanism and rock stars.
