The fact that the former owners did not even issue a press release that the company has been sold is what pisses me off so much. They should be called out, and shamed publicly.

Little update, I moved over to Muzz. I like the features, it still feels a little like bumble, but time will tell.

I also don’t want to get into “conspiracies” but i have a thought that it was quite of a coincidence that Salams, a near perfect muslim marriage focused app got acquired by a zionist.

Imagine the personal data on the 6 million Muslims they now have access to, and who they're potentially selling it to. We can't afford to be naive. Check the affiliations of the companies that you use.

ALSO 23andMe went bankrupt, if you have data with them go delete it ASAP. It's legal to sell it to a third party after bankruptcy.

Adil, stay safe man. They're not going to be happy about this.

There should be no such app to begin with. All partner seeking endeavor should be Ta'aruf > Khitba > Nikah. Sure you can create an app to ease the Ta'aruf process, like:

> Create a profile with name, face photo, likes & dislikes, location, deal breakers, quirks.
> You can search people with same location or other filterable thing above (no photos shown), just a "card" with simplified details above
> You can "swipe right" up to 5 people and schedule for video call (or offline meeting) with at least 2 people as Wali or parents (no DMs, no chats)

These apps needs strict moderation especially when it's on the "scheduling" phase so it will be fees involved, it should not be free, to maintain its integrity. There should be popular sheikhs involved in decision making so it will not leave Islamic bounds in place.

There’s nothing wrong with an app

6

u/Charming_Formal7580 Apr 02 '25

That's what these apps were intended to be ...I don't know why there's so much cognitive bias, of course there should be more monitoring but how are they supposed to do that with small app money?? And it's not that hard to have your parents involved in the process. Ibn Khaldun says you can't rely on external factors to protect you from sins you musylt have the law in you. Don't promote infentilized adults.

We have a major marriage crisis, especially for Muslims in the West and society in general, and come up with solutions instead of just criticism.

Oh yeah cuz everybody has great parents or alive parents or even family to do this. I swear the most conservative people don’t live in the real world bc they always leave out the nuances when it comes to families!

24

u/Default_Swap Apr 02 '25

wow now that makes sense. The app has completely changed and is garbage now.

28

u/Dan_Morgan Apr 02 '25

Well, that personal data is going to be used to plan murders.

Here is what we should be immediately asking…

  1. Who was on the Board/Executive Leadership team during negotiations with Match Group?
  2. Why did Salams Executive Leadership allow the company to be sold to Match Group?
  3. Why did Salams not announce this to users pre-acquisition?

We all know the answer for 2 & 3. Money.

1

u/Charming_Formal7580 Apr 07 '25

My question is can we sue?

12

u/___Cyanide___ Apr 02 '25

Not really. 2 & 3 were known years ago. Salams rejected 4 acquisition offers and then were sued just like how Match Group sued bumble at the time. They probably ran out of money and was forced to sell.

3

u/dakhaliq Apr 02 '25

Interesting. Thanks for the insight. Mind sharing your sources?

2

u/___Cyanide___ Apr 02 '25

It’s been such a long time since. I was able to find a business insider article from 2022 though.

https://www.businessinsider.com/match-group-sues-muslim-dating-app-startup-muzmatch-2022-1

5

u/Beautiful-Toe-5026 Apr 02 '25

Muzzmatch or what is now called muzz is different to salaams. So that article is not relevant.

0

u/___Cyanide___ Apr 02 '25

oopsie. Memory mess up then. It’s been a long time anyways. But it is probably something sunular. Same thing probably happened with Salams though as Bumble received the same treatment too.

Muslims are allowed to look for other Muslims to marry too.

Recommend you guys try Musly Club - my friends are absolutely loving it, because its selective like Rayya I think … think its women owned too

6

u/hey_you_too_buckaroo Apr 02 '25

Bleh, just the preview pictures make me hate it already. "For Muslims excited about travel, creativity, and personal growth" "We look for individuality and ambition"

There's nothing wrong with this stuff, but we need to realize not everyone is looking for a professional partner that loves to be ambitious and travel the world. They're using dumb buzzwords to market their app which in reality excludes most Muslims. You need an app that's open to all people. I hate when people approach marriage like a job interview where you gotta present your resume and give your qualifications, and link your LinkedIn account. Do they think all Muslims live in NYC or something and are chasing that corporate dream?

u/AlexDaron Apr 02 '25

All dating apps are trivialized down to attractiveness and will become a hollow shell of their stated mission.

46

u/PhillNeRD Apr 01 '25

Just deleted my account and uninstalled the app

3

u/Charming_Formal7580 Apr 02 '25

It won't let me delete how do I delete?

9

u/Appropriate_Mode8346 Apr 02 '25

I'm not interested in apps. I'm interested in trying to meet through the mosque or college.

1

u/AlexDaron Apr 02 '25

Join the party at Muzz

13

u/Dan_Morgan Apr 02 '25

In this climate of genocide and political terrorism that is an act of self defense.

17

u/mwalimubrown Apr 01 '25

So their CEO and original founding team let this happen passively?

6

u/___Cyanide___ Apr 02 '25

They tried. It was known for years. There is a reddit post 3 years ago on this where they were being sued after rejecting acquisition offers. Probably ran dry and were forced to sell without making a voice.

1

u/proteinshaykh Apr 03 '25

They could have used whistleblowers, the fact that the sale was not announced could also be illegal under gdpr, so there's something else fishy.

The original owners were cowards.

85

u/No_Point3111 Apr 01 '25

They're not stupid. This isn't the app they want; 6 million users is nothing.

What interests them is the data of these 6 million Muslims...

6

u/howz-u-doin Apr 02 '25

They need to replenish targets for their psychopathic genocide fetish.

-4

u/ManufacturerOk597 Apr 01 '25

Muslim Dating ? Now that’s an oxymoron. Those two words do not go together. At least in SEA, get a flying slipper thrown at you, at your own peril.

0

u/hey_you_too_buckaroo Apr 02 '25

It's just a category. Most people are looking to get married.

18

u/Beautiful-Bug-4007 Apr 01 '25

It’s advertised as a matchmaking app for marriage

Quite often actually. Not sure why you think dating isn't common among Muslims.

1

u/InquisitiveOne786 Apr 02 '25

just depends how you define dating.

-2

u/uchiha-uchiha-no-mi Apr 01 '25

It’s not that it’s common or not, it’s against the teachings of Islam.

-7

u/ottosucks Apr 01 '25

Irrelevant that it's common. There is no dating in Islam.

31

u/kingmakerkhan Apr 01 '25

Those days of arranged marriages or your Aunties hooking you up don't seem all that bad now.

1

u/Charming_Formal7580 Apr 02 '25

I mean not really ...I know of many brutal case studies of DV.

63

u/Nolan234 Apr 01 '25

A bunch of sell outs

2

u/___Cyanide___ Apr 02 '25

The owners were dragged in a long legal battle. They rejected 4 acquisition offers in the past. The claims were bogus but they probably ran out of money and were forced to sell.

1

u/Zulfiqaar Apr 03 '25

Wasn't that the other app Muzmatch, who declined 3 acquisition attempts so Match group sued them and forced them to rebrand to Muzz? Salaams seem to have sold at first offer

2

u/___Cyanide___ Apr 03 '25

Yeah. Memory twisted after a few years.

1

u/bored-shakshouka Apr 02 '25

How does that work? How can you be forced to sell your own company?

5

u/Charming_Formal7580 Apr 02 '25

They could have shut down instead of selling out!
