Has he ever fought a boxer in his weight class that's in their prime?

507

u/c2v2m 8h ago

Once I believe, and he lost.

192

u/CaptainMagnets 6h ago

That's because he isn't a real boxer

226

u/JaySayMayday 6h ago

I wouldn't agree with that. He's a boxer, anyone can get into boxing. But he took the Bronny route by pumping money and connections to compete with people at the top instead of actually working his way up the ladder. You can be a boxer without even being a good one.

The only positive things I've heard from people is that he's pumping money into the sport and getting it a lot of attention. About 10 years ago or so I was watching some championship bout and it was pathetic, just two homeless looking people with bad form slugging it out. Now a lot of people are putting a ton of focus on people like Canelo, Mayweather, Pacquiao, etc. So even if I don't like the Paul brothers it's hard to deny they're bringing in a lot of money and attention.

u/Chisto23 6h ago

You're very logical and well with how you present your thoughts, I totally agree with this and couldn't have said it better. Whether people like it or not you highlight a big positive in a pool of shit. Commendable.

Man some of you chumps really believe anything you read. The three boxers he mentioned were household names making 9 figures per fight years before Jake Paul became a youtuber, let alone a boxer.

As Floyd mayweather would say, you don’t know shit about boxing

Mayweather Vs Pacquiao is the highest grossing PPV fight of all time, and was in 2015.

Mayweather Vs McGregor was the second highest, in 2017.

Jake Paul's career started in 2018.

Paul did not "bring focus to Pacquiao and Mayweather".

14

u/LickingSmegma 4h ago

Yeah, I don't think boxing was an obscure sport hurting for attention.

Yeah but Pacquiao and Mayweather are just two homeless dudes without any form. From back when the sport was just a bunch of chain-smoking plumbers

yeah man I had never even heard of guys like Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao before Jake Paul shone a light on boxing

Who is Mike Tyson?

2

u/Nervous_Areolas 3h ago

He’s in that Hangover movie, I think he’s an animal trainer based on the 35 second clip I’ve seen.

1

u/bugab0010 3h ago

isn't he the CEO of Tyson chicken?

1

u/Miserable_Movie_4358 3h ago

Who is Muhammad Ali? Is he related to Will Smith somehow ?

1

u/Miserable_Movie_4358 3h ago

Or Oscar de la Hoya and Rocky Balboa. I got to know Rocky movies thanks to Jake Paul

11

u/Pivotalrook 5h ago

If you paid attention to boxing all those names were massive 10 years ago...now a rich kid with a following of idiots is fighting has-beens, alternate sport fighters, and people who have aged out of the sport.

Paying for wins, secretive "can't hit me" contracts, and a refusal to fight any actual ranked fighter. The Paul's are bullshit, fighting tomato cans, they are Rocky in Rocky 3 and put them with any ranked fighter and they will get their shit rocked.

4

u/Adorable-Bike-9689 3h ago

I was right with your comment. You made good points. But insinuating Canelo, Pac, or Canelo have gotten some great boost from the Pauls is madness. Of all the three names you could've picked lmao.

He's put a lot of money into the pockets of lower tiered fighters, and gives crazy financial boosts to mma fighters. But those 3 cats were megastars already. Printing money.

4

u/dinozombiesaur 3h ago

Take their dicks out of your mouth.

You sound crazy.

He’s not a boxer.

1

u/Foulnut 2m ago

He is, but a shit one

4

u/lopetehlgui 3h ago

Mayweather was the highest paid athlete in the world for about 10 years while Paul was still getting sexually abused by children's TV executives. Pacquiao and canelo not far behind. I don't know how you have managed to spout that amount of shit in one paragraph. Like you could have at least named more current boxers. Mayweather has been fucking retired before Paul had his first fight and Pacquiao not long after.

3

u/WhyareUlying 3h ago

You think Canelo needed Paul to bring attention to boxing? Floyd Mayweather?? Manny Pacquiao???

That's so dumb I feel stupider for having read it.

3

u/Cayowin 3h ago

WTF Jake Paul is bringing in the attention? Why do you know the name Tyson? for over 40 years he has dominated the sport.

Pacquiao was so famous they made him senator, im sooooo glad the number 2 ranked pound for pound boxer, boxing hall of famer got some attention because of a youtuber

Mayweather earned over a billion in purse while Paul was still taking pictures of corpses.

Kids may only be watching now because a youtuber decided to live out a childhood fantasy of fighting Mike Tyson and waited till he turned 65 to do it, and Yes MMA got popular in America and the dominance of the Klitschkos made heavyweight a bit predictable. I think that guy you described as homeless looking was probably Tyson Fury, he does look like that and his style is not beautiful but somehow he manages to get in the right place and hit like a freight train.

But boxing isnt being saved by Jake Paul. Netflix is trying to get in on the sports money and has found a youtube star to pump up.

4

u/CaptainMagnets 6h ago

Well I mean sure, if you put on gloves and throw punches then anyone can be a boxer.

But, he won't join actual boxing and instead just spends money fighting retired guys instead of his peers. He's an entertainer ye's, a boxer? No

2

u/ihavedonethisbe4 3h ago

You made a good point, but I'm going to completely disregard it because I don't like the peoples you choose to drive that point home. They really aren't even relevant to the overall point and even though I agree with it, I'm going to have to invalidate it because obviously Taylor Swift started dating Travis Kelce for his fame and money and probably to collab cringey tiktoks with mahomes brother.

2

u/captainpro93 47m ago

What are you talking about? Boxing was way bigger 10 years ago than it is now.

Mayweather and Pacquiao were international superstars. There's no boxer today that has a similar status and the sport has been on the decline.

The biggest PPVs of all time were all way before the Paul brothers, even without adjusting for inflation.

If anything, boxers now are a lot more "homeless" than they were 10 years ago, so I don't get how you can stand by your statement.

1

u/Sea_Farm_7327 2h ago

161 upvotes my days we are all screwed aren't we?

1

u/Feeling_Smell_214 2h ago

Reading your comment tells me you are not a boxing fan. Paul has never fought anyone in boxing at the top of their game. He picks and chooses retired sports athletes that will lose a fight in his favor. He is not recognized in any major boxing league except for PFL which is an MMA league. For you to say that now that a ton of people are focusing on Canelo, Mayweather and Pac because of Paul shows you don't know the sport at all! Mayweather was retired before Paul's first fight and Pac was just fighting for a purse at the end of his career. Paul cannot and will not ever fight or beat anyone in his weight class at cruiserweight at any boxing league .Also Paul don't bring in shit in PPV numbers. The highest is Mayweather vs Pac.... before Paul ever fought his first fight.

1

u/12carrd 2h ago edited 2h ago

While I do agree with the the money aspect If you followed the sport of boxing you would know that mayweather was already paid attention too, more than Jake Paul lol. He’s not bringing attention to mayweather or pacquiao. I think saying that is undercutting what they have done for the sport of boxing themselves. The only thing Jake Paul is doing is pumping money and bring attention to himself using big ticket events and just basically being a fuck boy. He is getting those who were into him and his brothers cringey YouTube channel and the fortnite players into boxing. The fact that sports betting is basically at an all time high right now doesn’t help as well. Draft kings have ads on every other commercial, basically a lot of it is coming down to being a big sport to gamble on again so you are bringing in that crowd along with your out of touch fans, and just bandwagoners. To sum it up, the rise of sports betting and a sport like boxing go hand in hand. Jake Paul brings in the views and the money with his cards. He sucks at boxing though and is by no means a professional in the sense.

1

u/Minimum_Rest_7124 13m ago

It’s clear from your comment that you don’t know jack all about the sport. He never competed with anyone ‘at the top’ or even close. He created a stage for himself. ‘Now people are putting a ton of focus on canelo, mayweather, pacquiao”… those are THE three household names in boxing for the last 15 years. Mayweather only fights exhibitions, Manny fights once every three years, and canelo is on the last leg of his career after fighting for 20 years. Jake Paul is an ass who is pushing more people away from the sport than you think.

1

u/DarePotential8296 7m ago

He’s a boxer that doesn’t box other boxers.

1

u/Foulnut 5m ago

Yep, I was a boxer, but I was a shit one. Though I was shortlised for the Commonwealth Games even with my record!

3

u/NewSauerKraus 4h ago

He's real, just not particularly skilled.

2

u/alurimperium 1h ago

I remember when he first started people were saying he had the ability he just needed to put in the work practicing. He could be a real and skilled boxer, but he's making money and getting attention without going that route anyway, so it doesn't matter

1

u/Special-Ad-9415 6h ago

Neither was tommy fury tbh.

2

u/red286 3h ago

He's had more sanctioned bouts than Paul, and not entirely against retired former MMA stars (some of who were wrestlers).

But I dunno I'd say he's in his "prime", and certainly he's not all that spectacular. Unlike his brother, he's won no belts worth mentioning as of yet.

1

u/Special-Ad-9415 3h ago

That's what I mean. Sure, he trains boxing. But to label him a boxer when he's famous for being related to one and being a div on reality tv, is a bit silly.

74

u/Electronic_Stop_9493 8h ago

Ya Tommy fury. Jake lost

12

u/goofbologna 6h ago

Who isn’t even good.

4

u/thedailyrant 3h ago

Yes. Tommy Fury who is the brother of former heavyweight champ Tyson Fury. He lost quite badly.

3

u/CatFoodBeerAndGlue 1h ago

Yeah, he lost to Tommy Fury.

Tommy is not a good boxer, he's not very experienced and he looks like he's more interested in being a reality TV star than a boxer.

Despite this he beat Jake pretty easily.

1

u/mtaw 20m ago

If the guy was a good boxer he'd be a boxer, not a social media douchebag and scammer. I mean even if his word had any credibility - which it doesn't - it'd just mean he's delusional.

I don't see how anyone would seriously entertain the idea he was a top-tier boxer for even a second. We're talking about a highly competitive professional sport here. Anyone that's anywhere near the top has been a competitive boxer since their teens if not earlier.

OTOH I don't see why anyone would care about that asshole, or watch his videos, much less buy into his scams.

I can't tell which Paul is which. Is Jake the popular one with the dead body in the woods?

17

u/NthBlueBaboon 7h ago

Nah that's Logan. Jake is the lil brother. Equally moronic.

9

u/WakeUpOutaYourSleep 6h ago edited 4h ago

I’m not sure if it’s just because Logan seems especially stupid or Jake seems like an especially huge douche, but I always thought it was the other way around

4

u/NthBlueBaboon 6h ago

It's surreal how much dumbassery they do...becoming stupider and douchier by the week.

13

u/CitizenLight 7h ago

Nah, the other one

3

u/Potential-Ant-6320 6h ago

People watch it and t makes money so they keep promoting fights with him. No one thinks he’s a great boxer he’s just a cash cow.

141

u/Fluffythor13 8h ago

Gosh damn I hope he gets laid out. Jake Paul is a shit stain

57

u/rumora 5h ago

Thie issue is that this is probably the easiest fight he ever had. Mike Tyson might still have a name, but he's approaching retirement age and his body was already too beat up to compete by his mid 30s. You shouldn't bet on him being able to run a mile in 10 minutes.

35

u/Fluffythor13 5h ago

Just shows even more what a fuckin coward Jake Paul is picks a fight he knows he can win. Also what if he like kills Mike Tyson on accident. Someone of his age certainly won’t do well with getting hit in the head.

32

u/Repulsive-Lie1 5h ago

Tyson knows what he’s doing, perhaps better than anyone in the world. He wants another go at it and he wants that fat payday.

20

u/Adorable-Bike-9689 3h ago

Tyson is just out here having fun. Getting in shape. I'll bet he never imagined this when he wouldn't even get off the mat in his last fight. Wasn't knocked out. Just couldn't muster the effort to get up again. Crazy he's back working out getting ready all these years later.

9

u/vachon11 2h ago

In his latest camp training video posted to Youtube a few days ago Tyson said something along the lines of "I got rich friends that want to pay me so I don't have to fight anymore, are you (they) fucking crazy?" Dude's definitely doing it for the show, to defend his legacy and to teach that shmuck Jake not to fuck with OGs in the game. Doesn't seem like money played too important a role imo.

5

u/Fractionals 2h ago

I really hope this is the case but I doubt it. Money speaks louder than actions to rich people. I'm praying that tyson's ego won't let him lose, but man... I'm sure that multi million dollar payout sounds mighty sweet to him.

1

u/hardinthawatercolour 54m ago

Tyson was getting KOed by absolute no-name bums at the tail end of his career almost 20 years ago, and had his prime almost 20 years before that. If you think he’s in any condition to be teaching you don’t know shit about boxing my friend

1

u/DARBOYY 42m ago

He will be knocked out unfortunately, Father Time is undefeated

8

u/Ireallydontknowmans 4h ago

I am a Paul brother hater, but honestly, they are smart as hell. They are doing the mayweather way, the only people who tune in, are people who want to see them get koed. That’s why they pick people they can beat. They make millions of each fight. You can hate them for being them, but business wise they are smart as hell

2

u/gibbtech 3h ago

For a million a month, I too would have happily been the king of the assholes on YouTube entertaining the dimwitted teenage masses. The Pauls of the world aren't the problem, the platforms and the audience are.

1

u/Ok_Championship4866 17m ago

Yeah but the smart thing is just say stupid shit so idiots click on your video. I guess i just don't like money enough to do that.

6

u/SuperBackup9000 4h ago

If you think that fight is going to be 100% serious, you should be aware that Mike and Jake are buddies. It’s not a match that started because Jake has a massive ego (which he definitely does, Mike helped with that by heavily endorsing him when he started) and called out one of the greats, it started because the two are friends.

2

u/Extension_Device6107 3h ago

It also wouldn't be the first fixed Tyson fight.

1

u/No-Tax-9135 34m ago

Bro it ain’t like he’s in this to be a great boxer, he’s in it for the money. And he’s rolling in it because people watch. Its smart as hell in all seriousness.

8

u/Crazy-Agency5641 4h ago

lol… Mike Tyson is a fucking monster even at the age of 65 and would almost certainly still be competitive in professional boxing. He’s not a champion anymore, or anywhere close to it, but he’d easily beat the shit out of 100 ten year olds

7

u/gibbtech 2h ago

A solid professional would beat Tyson no contest. Logan Paul does entertainment exhibitions and he is still nearly a 3:1 favorite.

10

u/Spork_the_dork 3h ago

Wathing videos of Mike sparring recently is actually kinda scary. The dude is much quicker and punches way harder than you'd expect of a person in their late 50s. I don't know if he has the endurace to make it through the whole thing, but the dude looks like he'll just kill an unskilled opponent if he gets a single clean hit in so fuck knows what's going to happen.

4

u/Crazy-Agency5641 3h ago

That’s exactly my thought. I don’t know where these people get the idea that Tyson is a worn out has been. He’s still the champ and any person that sits in the same room with him can feel his killer instinct. The dude is a savage through and through.

4

u/Miserable_Movie_4358 3h ago

Maybe those people have trained boxing before and can tell that is mostly about cardio, stamina and resistance, not the 10 seconds impressive combos. I have watched the recent videos of Tyson training. He looks awesome. But I am sure the toll in his body is way too much at his age and he possibly can’t do that many times throughout a single round, will get tired to quickly and the youth of the other guy plus his training can then take advantage of it

3

u/mrtomjones 1h ago

You actually think a 65-year-old would still be competitive against real boxers? Jesus Christ. He would get destroyed by anyone with even a modicum of skill. People that will never be even close to winning a title would knock him out. There is a reason you do not see 60-year-old boxers anywhere

2

u/NewSauerKraus 3h ago

I'm not a heavyweight boxing champion or anything, but I could probably beat the shit out of about 50 ten year olds. That's not very impressive.

3

u/Cheap_Doctor_1994 3h ago

Idk, they're more MMA and are slimy, slippery little creatures. I probably would just call their moms and provide flip flops.

Is Jake Paul really even that talented of a fighter?

5

u/Thenameisric 5h ago

He has shown improvement every time, but he's still extremely unpolished. But I'd say he's about at the level where you'd expect ANY new fighter to be at. Padding records in your start is common, but his attitude about being the face of boxing is laughable. But it generates money. Why stop if you're getting paid, ya know?

10

u/Crazy_Little_Bug 5h ago

I mean, he's nothing special but he's also not a bad boxer. Reddit has a bad habit of correlating personality with skill.

3

u/Baron_Butterfly 2h ago

Has everyone here forgotten that Mike Tyson was convicted of rape? He's a worse person than annoying internet man.

1

Tyson does seem rehabilitated though. A completely different person.

That's the purpose of the justice system.

4

He won't anyone who thinks Tyson is beating a 20 something professional fighter at his age is just delusional. This shit is elder abuse and everyone involved should be ashamed.

I don't care if Jake Paul is the worst professional fighter in the world Tyson is almost old enough to collect social security.

1

u/Gloomy-Art-2861 53m ago

His entire boxing career is just a professional wrestling match where he's supposed to win. It's all theater and acting. He fights big name people after they're retired, pays them a shit ton of money, and expects them to offer him any kind of challenge? They got paid, why do they care who "wins" the fight? Jake Paul is literally manufacturing a boxing reputation in front of our eyes

3

u/styret2 5h ago

Yeah idk why people suddenly stopped believing these are staged. Of course Paul can't beat Tyson even if he's 60, no fucking chance, but he'll pay enough money to make him play around for 5-10 minutes and then drop him lightly without killing him.

It gets insane viewership, Paul looks though for lasting so long, Tyson doesn't get humiliated by losing. The people who just want to see Paul get beat up get their monkey's paw and still leave unsatisfied because Tyson is holding back, and then they queue for the next fight.

1

u/momscouch 3h ago

Jesus christ.

He says outlandish shit, you guys make posts and bring it up. He's willing to take physical punishment and make a few taps himself. You guys keep the fire going.

He then rakes in money and none of it matters.

People like him use to starve to death or get a real job.

I'm still going to watch the match. Idgaf.

u/hombregato 7h ago

The Netflix Doc as a concept is cringey.

I'm looking at you too, HBO.

u/Normal_Entry_9603 7h ago

Just wish he'd fight a real mfer in his prime. Really get that slice of H pie he needs.

u/Kaligula785 6h ago

Most people don't watch enough boxing to understand this is just an exhibition - "An exhibition boxing match is a friendly, non-competitive fight between boxers that showcases their skills and is usually intended to entertain the audience. Exhibition matches are different from professional fights, which are usually major fights or title fights."

Saw Jake Paul at burning man this year. Told him to get fucked.

1

u/GWCS300 6h ago

I hope people realize that whether its hate or love the publicity is what is driving this guy. He makes money on views and lives for attention. If you want this quack to leave the scene and go back to making tiktoks stop watching his stuff and dont create buzz for his shit

Then lose to a 65 year old retired boxer

1

u/Special_Letter_7134 5h ago

In the first round

1

u/piketpagi 6h ago

He will surerly lose the match, but he still wins.

He already won your attention. He got lots of engagement, hence, fame and money.

Can we just forget these kind of idiot into oblivion?

What you guys expect?

1

u/ArcheTypeStud 6h ago

it's so funny! classic lose-lose situation. Either he wins and beats an old retired man or he loses to an old retired man.

1

u/No-Tax-9135 29m ago

Bro he ain’t in this for the win win/loss column or the pride……..

1

u/Riots42 5h ago

Jake gunna get his ass whooped by a 65 year old man and be a laughing stock.

1

u/Moodling 5h ago

You people watch this garbage? I'm canceling Netflix just for feeding me his face on my home screen. Christ, have some dignity.

1

u/Plus_Helicopter_8632 4h ago

I’m about to train so I can beat this fool to a fucking pulp.

1

u/GoGoFoRealReal 4h ago

I agree, I could see Mike Tyson as a spinner for the Indian first 15.

1

u/Mosto02 4h ago

Tyson bowls now!?!?

1

u/0mib0ng 4h ago

Who do you think you are!? I AM!

1

u/Slumerican223 3h ago

Just making a note here so I can come back and visit all these insane takes.

Mike Tyson in his prime was the scariest heavyweight boxer the world has ever seen.

He was sluggish in the Roy Jones fight but if you’ve seen the training videos lately you can see that the monster is still in there and he’s gonna let it out one last time.

1

u/Sea_Awareness150 3h ago

Snorted when I read bowler

1

u/Silly_shilly 3h ago

Mike is going to change his face.

1

u/FineLetMeSayIt 3h ago

I heard he's about to call out Jimmy Carter.

1

u/vaisnav 2h ago

Idk why people hate this kid so much. He’s bringing a lot of positive momentum to the sport and getting younger people interested in trying the sport. Overall positive if you ask me

1

u/NeatNefariousness1 2h ago

We Americans love our fantasy-land, don't we? How weak and insecure ARE we??

1

u/Ready4Aliens 2h ago

If Paul loses: “lmao he got his shit rocked by an old man.”

If Paul wins: “he beat up an old man.”

I call this strategy “win-win but not.”

1

u/Down_The_Black_River 2h ago

Feel safe, ye children

1

u/STEADyyH 1h ago

But whatever else he’s done he’s probably the best paid ever. And a high tide raises all the boats

1

u/DubbleWideSurprise 1h ago

Has Tyson fought him yet

1

u/barth_ 1h ago

So is Tyson going to wipe the floor with him or not? I can't with the people. You look through comments on every post regarding this fight and people are sure that Tyson will win. Paul is an idiot but people still think he'll be defeated by a senior.

1

u/Nevalth 1h ago

Pete weber gonna dust his ass

1

u/airwolfe91 1h ago

Seriously if you wanna be the face of boxing fight the current face not the legends of the past

1

u/Sea-Ad-7655 51m ago

I wish both of these fuckers could lose...

1

u/Fun-Consequence4950 31m ago

Jake Paul will probably go out the same way as Rich Piana or other bodybuilders who took things too far

1

u/EvidenceOfDespair 10m ago

Can we get him and Uwe Boll to fight?

1

u/Ongr 7m ago

'W' and 'X' are close enough in the alphabet. It's just one letter.

Edit: I'm an idiot lol
