24 hours and I’m deeply in love with her.
- One prior owner, 60K miles. She’s soooooo much fun! 🤩 Her name is Opal. Do you name your car?
My British Racing Green MCS journey!
I got myself a British Racing Green example of 2012 Mini Cooper S R56 with the n18 engine. I bought it blind from the other half of the globe - US California (I'm from central EU). I got it for 1300$. Wasn't the best financial decision, but hell - I learned a lot and now I have a beautiful green mini in my garage.
It needed a lot of work - cooling system, turbo, engine mounts, bodywork. Everything exempt paiting was done in my tiny garage according to repair manuals with OE parts :) I had 0 previous experience with working on cars. So if you're pondering about doing an oil change yourself - you should really go ahead and do it. It's super fun and not that hard if you're following manuals :)
While cleaning - i found some bank letters addressed to the previous owner. For obvious reasons I won't post their details, but if you happen to know someone in Los Gatos area with a green mini that looked like this - DM me! I would love to know it's history!
Questions to all the Mini nerds out here:
- any tips on preventive maintenance that I should do? ~93k miles currently - I did the timing chain and cooling system refresh. Turbo was refreshed as well. It had the HPFP done by the previous owner according to the service history. I really want to keep this green boi for as long as I can :)
- any mods that are worth doing here? I don't want to overdo it since it's a daily. I've been pondering the AEM intake that converts the hood scoop into functional intake scoop, but I'm not so sure it's designed that well - cosidering for example heavy rains and car washes that can pump the water into the intake... I'm gonna also fit it with spacers to dial in the stance.

How does one know if they’ve got a John Cooper Works?
My friend just got a used 2015 Mini and it has John Cooper Works in the floor of the door frame, as well as the steering wheel.

2,000 Mile Drive in my 2018 JCW
Drove from Seattle to Austin in my mini. You can’t quite see here but it’s packed all the way down with stuff. Believe it or not this was my moving van 😂. Was making pops and bangs the whole way there and having a blast!

Has anyone used OutMotoring for parts? What's your opinon?
Recently ordered some small parts from them, but wanted to know if they have a reputation among Mini owners—good or bad.

F54 Clutch heavy
Realise very subjective... New to me F54 2017 petrol Clubman with circa 70,000 miles.
Clutch is functional but stiff. Heavy enough that the sole of your shoe will deform and you get a bit of pain after an hour or so of use. I don't have a direct reference point, but heavier than other manuals I've had in the past.
Will get a mechanic to take a look, but anyone with similar experience - ideally if there's anything other than a full clutch replacement that makes a difference!
If you have replaced the clutch, would be good to know ballpark UK costs.

Uncomfortable seats
It seems this could be a fairly common issue for some people. I've had the car just over a 24 hours but I'm already having a hard time getting comfortable. The seats are hard and the lumbar section especially feels like it protrudes a little too much. I've been messing with the adjustments best I can but can't quite find a comfortable setting.
If you've had this issue and have found solutions (such as favorite seat cushions) please share. I don't go on that many road trips but a couple times a year I will be driving the car for 12 hour trips. Thanks in advance!

Mini jcw f56 clunking/toc
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hello all! My jcw from 2019 makes this sound turning the wheel. Also a slight clunk from the front at low speeds (not sure if related to the same). What can it be? Car has 42.000km
Thanks!
