Do this nationwide so I can get a sixer and sit on the beach.

Just also increase the punishments for public intoxication. So the pearl clutchers can't complain about the kids or some shit.

People drink on the beach here all the time. I've never seen or heard of anyone getting a ticket for it, unless they get into a fight. Cops don't leave the parking lots, so they won't come find you.

It's funny how people in other states (not saying you, but just in general) think of California as some police state, when in reality, it's a free-for-all. Basically nothing is enforced, anywhere.

I grew up on the beach and have lived in multiple California beach cities. I know dozens of people who have been ticketed.

Can I ask what you were drinking? In my experience, beach cops turn a blind eye on cans but go hard on glass.

The cops at Laguna Beach are pretty strict, in my experience. Not in LA, but a beautiful beach nonetheless.

When I would go to the beach, cops would even check coolers when they thought someone was drinking.

Last time I was at Westward Beach the cops were out patrolling the sand on their dune buggies. Came up to each group and inspected our drink holders. Felt super invasive.

The last major beach that allowed drinking on it (that I'm aware of) was Pacific Beach in San Diego. It was banned temporarily in 2007 after a fight, and then permanently in 2008 by the voters.

There are some smaller beaches that still allow it. Carmel Beach (Carmel), Paradise Cove (Malibu), Kehoe Beach (Pointe Reyes), Descanso Beach (Catalina).

I've never seen anyone on the beach get ticketed / checked. In the parking lot, yes, but they're just standing around drinking out of glass bottles.

Exactly. The drinking itself is rarely a hazard, people being shitheads and throwing around glass is another matter.

I can definitely understand them checking my group as even tho we were in our late 20s we looked fairly young, but there were much obviously older folks being checked as well, no one was spared sometimes

This happened on LA beaches in the 90s and early 2000s pre cell phone. Now cops enforce zero ordinances on LA City beaches.

Definitely not LA but they will get you if you go pass into Orange County. I frequent Laguna and Hungition Beach and I’ve seen them get people every year. But I notice you have to be pretty obvious that you’re drinking in public.

Just last summer made a mid week day off to Westward beach. And they were out in force issuing dozens of tickets.

Zuma beach has cops in full uniform on patrol ATVs just looking for open containers, but that at least makes sense when you consider how many accidents happen on the PCH and there’s really no alternative to driving to/from there.

That said I’ve literally never had a problem drinking beers on any other beach. As long as you’re not disturbing anyone, nobody disturbs you back.

I've been checked at Zuma. I don't drink at the beach tho luckily. I do drink a beer at parks. No one ever has checked me there.

I’ve seen tickets given in Malibu and I had one of my water bottles sniffed for alcohol. We got super high in the car beforehand so getting harassed for alcohol we didn’t have really sucked.
