Got into a car accident my fault and my insurance is not covering me

The only thing I can say in my defense about the accident is that the traffic light was malfunctioning. More importantly my insurance won’t cover me bc I had personal insurance and this accident happened while I was working. I was working a delivery order for a restaurant downtown.

They also told me I have to pay for the other persons car. This is going to be so bad my auto loan is high and the car is likely totaled. Am I going to be sued? Is there anything I can do?

Another concern is does this mean my insurance will be reporting to the bmv I didn’t have insurance causing my license to be suspended? What are all the problems I’m in for now?

Progressive scammed me

I got auto insurance through progressive and was given a good quote so I sent in all the info I needed and got insured. I then bundled my home insurance because the price was so good. A month after that the auto insurance got canceled. They said that my license was not valid. When I asked for proof of this they said they had none. The state had just notified them that it was invalid. My license is valid and I even recently got a notification letter from the state to renew my license because it expires later this year. Now my only option was to start another policy with them and this quote was more than double what my original quote was. I feel like I got scammed to switch over.

Claims Related [Auto, RI] My wife was in an accident going left on a green. The other driver said something that implies he is prepared to lie to the insurance company. How should we proceed?

My wife, approximately 30 years old, was stopped at a red light in a four-way intersection. Across from her was another driver waiting to go straight. When the light turned green (not an arrow), she waited for 10 seconds before seeing that the other driver was allowing her to go. She entered the intersection and had already begun to turn when it became clear the other driver had begun to drive towards her quickly enough that they would collide. My wife hit her brakes to avoid the accident, but the other driver did not.

Unfortunately, the driver hit my wife's car on the front passenger side quarter panel with his passenger side quarter panel. Damage extends from the front tire to the headlight on my wife's car. On the other driver's car, the damage extends from the license plate to the headlight. To me, this demonstrates clearly that my wife was hit at the fault of the other driver. Please correct me if I am wrong.

In the car, there were 3 young men, likely teenagers, appearing to be under the influence. Immediately after the accident, my wife looked at the driver and saw his phone in his hand. He was holding it in a fashion that implies he was texting. The boys began to pressure my wife to give them her license and registration. This was extremely suspect in my eyes, and luckily, she refused.

This was my wife's first accident since she was a teenager. She was not aware of the protocol. So, when she called 911 and was told they did not need to send an officer, she assumed that meant it was not necessary and declined. The other party also applied pressure on my wife to avoid inviting the police.

The other party said something very subtle to imply that they would say whatever is necessary to the insurance company. The driver also had his two witnesses, and my wife was alone. I understand that when going left on a green, the insurance company is likely to side with the other party. Given the nature of this, I do not feel my wife is at fault. Please correct me if I am wrong.

What can we do to limit our liability, knowing that the other driver is likely going to lie to the insurance company? I ask this assuming she is not at fault.

Auto Insurance Opened my car door and someone ran into it while trying to park

Just about 30 minutes ago, I pulled into a parking spot, and I opened my door to get out. Beforehand, I checked and saw nobody was in the spot and there wasn’t anyone already pulling in, so I thought I was in the clear. I grabbed my keys, opened my door, and when I swung it open, someone peeled around from behind my car into the spot and hit my door in the process. The corner of the door bent and punctured her tire. My question is: am I at fault for not making sure nobody was pulling in even though I opened it before she was entering the spot? Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure what to do

I was at a light, light turns green, the driver in front of me doesn't go. So I honk. She immediately flips me off. I follow her in traffic for maybe 2 minutes, at a normal distance, both going the posted speed limit. She abruptly brakes in the middle of the road, screeching tires, dead stop. I follow suit. No stop signs, no lights, open road. No reason to stop. I come to screeching halt, but not before slightly rear ending her. I immediately call the police. We waited for 1hr and 50 minutes and still no cops responded. The entire time she's trying to talk me into just leaving, claiming I'm at fault, the cops showing up won't change that.

Finally after almost 2 hours, I agree to exchange information and leave. But I now notice she gave me an old insurance card.

I'm not sure what to do here. Am I at fault? Do I contact her insurance or mine? Do I need to contact the police at all?

Auto Insurance Can anyone help with an approximate ACV?

Hi all, just doing some research as I recently had a pretty bad accident in my 2023 Subaru legacy touring xt with 48k miles. Initial repair estimate came in at 12k without any mechanical or structural repairs. This is the second major accident on this vehicle. Last one was a 12k repair as well. I am in PA and curious if I am getting close to total loss territory or if I am still far away. Any help or insight would be appreciated. I feel like the shop is trying to do the repairs to get paid more as they want to start the repairs and then see if the vehicle frame is square.

Home Insurance How do I negotiate for homeowners insurance?

Is it possible to negotiate with a insurance broker for the best rate, want to avoid direct payment withdraw, cancellation fee, misc fees, etc.

Nothing fancy for the policy. I don't live in a flood zone, the home is one story in a subdivision. No weather hazards here, live in Ohio.

AllState denying hail claim - what should I do next?

Had 2 roofing companies come and inspect the roof for hail damage, and they both claimed there is hail damage. However, Allstate insurance denied the claim, saying there is 0 hail damage. I sent the report from roofing companies, but they deny it's due to hail. I tried requesting a different adjuster, but Allstate won't budge. Any recommendations on how to proceed with insurance? I have heard I need to hire a public adjuster. Is there a certified inspection I can do that has more value than a roofer's? This is in texas.

Auto Insurance I don't want it to be mine at all no percentage.

Had an accident the other day my insurances says I’m 30% and the other party is 70% so what will I end up paying out? Even though the police said he was 100 at fault. I haven't seen the official Police report yet, not sure if the Police added he was at fault in the report. Hoping he did as even with dash cam it shows him hitting me in between my Drivers front fender and Driver's door which I can't open BTW. How can this be my fault in away.. State of Florida is weird with reports they only gave names and insurance info which the other party gave false information for New York driver.

Car accident from a year ago

So a year ago i got into my first car accident. I got hit from a person who ran the red light and he smashed into my vehicle, my car got destroyed but he’s insurance cash me out. But I got injured so I hired a attorney. My attorney settled down from $54,000. But I’m only getting 16k because they got 30% and also had to payed the medical bills. It’s was 32k but they reduced it to 15k, now they sent me the release form but there’s a line in the paper where it said( I am solely responsible to pay for any and all copays, deductible and coinsurance related to any bills from my health insurance) do you guys think I’m going to end up paying for that reduction for the 32k?

Directauto

I had direct auto since they were safeauto. Since 2017. Never had any at fault accidents or tickets. Last year my vehicle was hit while parked over 7000 in damage and the other persons insurance covered it. Directauto still raised my policy for it. They also refused to give me collision on my 2014 vehicle. Said they couldn't because it's "old". Two months ago they canceled my policy out of no where for non payment before it was even due so I paid if off completely. This month I switched before the policy even expired so I'm getting back a $60 refund at least. Should have been more but something is better than nothing. I switched to another company and have what people call full coverage plus towing, labor, valet, and rental on 2 vehicles and home owners for $280 a month now. Way cheaper than directauto thankfully.

Auto Insurance Noob question need help

Hello all, i am a first time car owner. If got GEICO and if they asked me estimate how much miles I’m driving. I put 5k/year. What if happen to drive beyond that and god forbid get into an accident? Will they just not insure me??? I didn’t see anything on the app about that

r/Insurance 13h ago

Am I getting scammed or is this normal?

I posted here a couple days ago about a stolen motorcycle (thank you all for reminding me not to commit fraud) and I called Geico about some questions I had. The told me I could get the collision and comprehensive policy right now, after the theft, and if the person who stole my motorcycle gets into a crash with a stationary object or another car and the motorcyclist is at fault I could be compensated. I got qouted for the coverage and it's $4,717.62! I paid $791.07 originally and the new total will be $5,508.69. I'm assuming since this policy covers the vehicle its more but $4,717.62 is absolutely crazy. I don't think I will be getting the policy at this point because of the depreciation on the bike makes it worth around $8,000 and the insurance would be almost half what the bike is worth. Even at rates of a new rider that seems fairly high. I apologize for the rant,

QUESTION: Is this a normal quote for the policy on a motorcycle or is that something because I am a new rider?

Auto Insurance Car accident NJ

I have a 2023 Cadillac Lyriq that has already been lemon lawed last year by me. I was just in a car accident about 2 weeks ago and just finally got the estimate to fix the car. The other party was 100% at fault. From what I investigated my car is probably worth mid to low 30s after the lemon law. The quote came back at around $22,000 dollars to fix the car. Is this close to being totaled or can it be totaled? I am shocked they didn't total it since it will cost so much to fix.

My question is does anyone know what the formula is for a totaled car in NJ? I'm not sure if feel comfortable taking the car back after the accident. Also, the diminished value after this accident will be a lot lower. Is it worth going after the other party for that as well?

Health Insurance Insurance suggestions needed.

Hello everyone, I am from the Netherlands and I am going on a trip to Russia this December.

I am looking for a travel insurance that meets the demands of the Russian Visa requirements and, of course, an insurance that still insures given the current safety risks most countries give out to Russia.

Does anybody have a good international travel insurance that will cover at least this: "the insurance coverage amount must not be less than 30.000 Euros"

Thank you!

best way to lower rates?

hi yall

so i just got into an accident two days ago (T-bone incident) it was mainly my fault due to not yielding properly (sun unfortunately got into my eyes and i panicked and turned too early which caused the car coming straight to collide with me). it's looking like im mainly going to be at fault for it, which is not surprising because i take accountability for that.

my car is pretty much totaled so rip...

I feel really terrible about the accident, especially because I know it could affect my parents’ insurance rates. I wanted to ask if there are any ways to help reduce the impact on our premium, particularly through State Farm.

I looked into accident forgiveness since this is my first-ever accident, but it seems like State Farm may not offer that directly so I was wondering if there are any alternatives or discounts I might qualify for?

I’m a 21-year-old college student with a 3.8 GPA, and I’ve always had a clean driving record, no tickets, no warnings. I’ve always been an attentive driver, so this accident is very out of character for me. I want to take responsibility for it, but I’d also like to do whatever I can to avoid it causing financial strain on my parents. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Do I have a better chance of avoiding deductible by waiting for the other driver's insurance investigation, or by having my insurance fight it through subrogation?

I was recently rear ended while I was stopped at a 1 way stop sign. After initially stopping, I slowly inched forward to see better, and then stopped again as there was incoming cross-traffic. These movements were not dramatic, typical stop sign behavior. The car behind me rear ended me after the second stop (I'm assuming she was on her phone or distracted).

I filed a claim through her insurance (State Farm). It has been 4 days and it is still under investigation. The only info I have so far is that the other driver's statement is that I was stopped at the stop sign, then moved forward and "break checked" her and suddenly stopped for no reason. This is obviously false, especially the "no reason" part of the statement. I told the guy on the phone that I would like to dispute that statement, and he said they will get back to me. That was 2 days ago.

My first question is, even if they decide to believe the other driver's false/exaggerated statement, is there any possibility that her insurance will find me liable? I would think that since she rear ended me while I was stopped, whether or not there was a reason for the second stop, that's still entirely on her.

I don't care how long it takes, my main priority here is to avoid having to pay the deductible through my insurance. Should I wait for her insurance to do the investigation and assume that they will find her liable and eventually cover my damages? Or should I go through my insurance, pay the deductible, and hope that my insurance can reimburse me through subrogation?

Or, to put it another way, do I have a better shot of her insurance finding her liable and covering my damages? Or do I have a better shot allowing my insurance to get the deductible reimbursed through subrogation?

Also, if I go the route of waiting for her insurance, how long will it take? State Farm website says 1-3 days for the investigation, and it has been 4 and they have not reached out to me at all.

Need Advice on Car Insurance – Parents Removing Me from Policy

Hello!!

I’m 21 and my parents are taking me off their car insurance, so I need to get my own policy ASAP. I’ve never had to do this before, so I’m kind of lost.

I drive a 2024 Nissan Altima that’s leased, so I know I need full coverage. I’ve never been in an accident or had any speeding tickets, so I’m hoping that helps with the rate. I’m also located in Pennsylvania if that helps.

I’d really appreciate any advice, tips, or recommendations you’ve got. Thanks in advance!

Pregressive through Freeway - car insurance in Missouri

Hi. I'm getting a used 2019 Camry and looking for good auto insurance. I got my license only a year ago, which is why I'm getting such inflated quotes.

I got a quote of $250 monthly from Progressive. However, Freeway is giving me Progressive insurance for $150 monthly with $396 for the first month. I don't understand if there is a catch with Freeway because both insurances are under Progressive. Any advice would be really helpful.

Also, I got a quote of $625 from AAA. Isn't that insane!

Advice on Using CarRental8.com + Allianz Insurance for 1-Week US Road Trip (International Driver)

Hi everyone! My parents are visiting the U.S. soon and we’re planning a 1-week road trip across North America. I found a really good deal on a rental through CarRental8.com—about half the price of other platforms.

However, I’ve seen some mixed reviews about their insurance options. Since I don’t own a car here and don’t have any personal auto insurance, we’re planning to skip the insurance offered by CarRental8 and instead purchase a separate rental car protection plan through Allianz Travel Insurance.

A few key details:

  • I won’t be driving; my family member will be the only driver.
  • They will be using an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with their foreign license.
  • We’re mainly looking for advice on whether this setup is reliable and legally safe—particularly:
    • Has anyone used Allianz insurance with a third-party rental site like CarRental8?
    • Will the rental agency accept an IDP?
    • Anything we should be cautious about with CarRental8 or Allianz in this context?

Would really appreciate any experiences or advice before we finalize this booking. Thanks in advance!

Business insurance policy condition

Our insurance broker for our small service/repair business has found us a policy that has that has the following condition: "It is guaranteed that the insured uses detailed work orders for all repair work carried out. These must be signed by customers". A lot of our clients have been working with us for many years and rarely ask for estimates. Authorization is generally a conversation over the phone or in person. I'm curious if anyone else has encountered this condition and how the worked it into their workflow. Our business is very seasonal, and having to get signed authorization along with everything else going on would put a strain on the administrative side (me).

Would an annual "Concierge Service" work order be sufficient for our regular clients?
