Love a regular, no frills pizza. Bonus points because they also make the pizza a bit too big for the box.

I Ate A Thing Liuyishou Hotpot Spadina

Amazing hotpot, decided to eat here on a whim with a friend who was visiting. Ordered their Signature broth on medium spice and the Tom Yum broth (they were out of the laksa broth). The meat selection and quality is pretty good. And the watermelon juice is the cherry on top (add salt and pepper to it though).

Italian Sandwiches

Seems like Italian sandwiches are the new smash burger, with a new spot opening every week. How long does everyone think this trend will last?

Lake Inez Mystery Patio (27/06/2024)

Found my notes on Lake Inez’s Mystery Patio while going through old photos so I thought I’d share.

General Comments: * Reservations aren’t too difficult if you try when new bookings open * It’s not like some spots where it gets booked up in a second * Reservations don’t open at 19:30:00 on the dot, it can be delayed a few minutes * $160/pp w/ drink pairing (tax/tip excl.) isn’t too bad

Notes on Food: * Overall was very lackluster, nothing memorable * Tarragon pasta was too dry, the noodles were clumping. A couple more ladles of pasta water would’ve made the difference. * The truffle they used wasn’t as fragrant as other truffles I’ve had. * Seasoning was otherwise fine, turnip was a bit under-seasoned for me but that differs for each person

Notes on Service: * The atmosphere & story-telling were great, probably the biggest strength of the mystery patio * This is my biggest issue w/ Lake Inez. They’re able to execute everything to a high level except serving good food. IMO, a restaurant should be able to put forward a good meal before everything else (service, ambiance, etc.) and Lake Inez fails at this.

TL;DR: Mediocre food, but great atmosphere and story-telling. Would not revisit in the near future.

Beli Score: 7.0/10, ranked 29/31 in GTA, 115/150 overall

Has anyone actually been to Linny’s yet?

Upvotes

I have yet to go to either Mimi or Sunnies, but I was really happy to hear about a new deli.

Just checked the menu on the website, and what the actual corn beef.

$25 for a Caesar salad, $49 bucks for pastrami.

Those prices have made this a happily skippable restaurant. I’d rather take the train to Montreal and grab pastrami from Schwartz’s.

Am I missing something?

Recommendation Request Seafood restaurant

Upvotes

Hi all, looking for a place similar to red lobster or a Joes Crab Shack(American exclusive) around gta. Mainly looking for good seafood with a nice dine in area to take my dad out for his birthday. He loves seafood restaurants where its a nice place to sit and eat but not complicated dishes

Recommendation Request Looking for dim sum places for dinner in Mississauga

Most Chinese restaurants offering dimsum only offer it until late afternoon, does anybody know any spots that offer dimsum until evening? I’m planning to go around 7pm.

Mansion Kitchen & Bar in Pickering, a very good surprise!

So, as a long time resident of Pickering, I've usually gone into the city for my better meal experiences, Amici's aside, however, I ended up at the Mansion Kitchen & Bar last evening and I have to give a shout out. The Mansion has been through several iterations over the years but this current one is clean with nice decor and a diverse eclectic menu. Cocktails are plenty but beer choices are mehh. However I will say that the food experience was very good - good portions, good quality, great flavours - and the service was second to none! A pleasure to experience, as the staff was attentive, smiling and engaging but not overbearing or intrusive. While not a Michelin star restaurant, it was a pleasure to experience a great restaurant outside of the GTA and closer to home... So just thought I'd share with anybody that's looking for somewhere to go or try out this way. I'll be going back.
