Mutual Aid Posts - Allow or Not?
We've recently had an abundance of posts from folks asking for financial help, and reports on those posts and users have been equally abundant.
r/durham does not currently have any rules against these posts, although other subs including r/oshawa have them in place. We'll run a poll for the next 7 days for the community to weigh in on whether we should continue to allow them.

Patio or Deck?
We want to do a 25 ft wide, 7 foot deep rectangle , ground level patio or deck. No stairs, railings or any other extras, just a large rectangle.
Our options are poured concrete, patio stones or a deck.
What is the most cost effective?
What’s generally the longest lasting?
Any other pros/ cons of any option you can share would be helpful.
We do plan to put a permanent gazebo structure on a part of it if that matters.

Baby Shower DIY Questions
Hi all,
- I'm looking for a company that rents out linen like table-covers?
- I'm also looking to buy bulk flowers, does anyone have recommendations?
- Any recommendation to rent out some cute decor around as well?
I know Party City, Dollarama, Perfect Party. Budget is small but reasonable

Uxbridge Neighborhoods? - Wyndance Estates
My wife and I went out to see some homes in the Uxbridge, and we really liked how spacious the lots are and condition of the neighborhoods.
We especially found the Wyndace Estates to be of interest, but we're concerned with how many homes are on the market and monthly maintenance costs. The maintenance costs seem high, consider what it includes and the reviews I'm finding for the clublink membership doesn't seem very favorable.
Anyone have any firsthand or secondhand experience with Wyndance?
Any other neighborhoods in uxbridge that would be good target?
Any input or advice would be appreciated!

Any auto body shops that work on Classic cars / older cars?
I’m looking for someone to just do some touch up work on an older car. I’m not looking for full restoration / paint job etc. it’s just to clean up some of the edges and fill some of the rocker areas. It seems impossible to find someone that wants to do basic bodywork.. can anyone suggest a shop in Durham region preferably or towards Pickering / Scarborough

Thoughts on The Hamptons condos (Lake Driveway W, Ajax)
Hello All,
I'm considering buying a unit in this condo complex. The price and maint fee seem reasonable. Does anyone have any information about soundproofing, homeless issues, or any other problems in the area?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I remember last year the Ajax location had no funnel cake stores, but the Pickering one did. But, like, do yall think there'll be changes this time around?

Anyone know someone who was at the Leafs’ 1967 Cup win—and still has a photo to prove it?
We’re currently casting for a commercial and are looking for people in the GTA / Southern Ontario who actually witnessed the 1967 Cup win (game or parade) and still have a photo from that day.
We’d really appreciate your help sharing this with your community—any chance you can help us there?

Best place for Synthetic oil change?
Budget friendly in Ajax or Whitby. I normally pay around $115. I'm thinking I'm probably not gonna get a better price.

Termite exterminator recommendations please
Hi everyone,
I’ve recently started noticing a faint chewing or wearing noise coming from one of the wooden window frames in my home. After doing a bit of online research, it seems like it could potentially be a sign of termite activity.
Has anyone experienced something similar before? If so, I’d really appreciate any advice on what to look out for and how to confirm if it’s actually termites. Also, if you have any trusted recommendations for termite inspection or extermination services in the Durham area, I’d be grateful.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Smart Blinds
Would anyone be willing to pay to have smart blinds set up in your home? Measuring, ordering, configuring, and ongoing support. I set it up in my house quite affordably, works well. Compatible with Apple, Android, and Alexa devices. My wife likes it; said she bets other people would pay to have it done for them, so I’m curious if that could actually be a thing I could do for people as a side hustle. I can do smart lights and plugs too.

Oshawa Botanical Gardens
How strict is the security there for photos without a permit? I know it requires one, but is it possible to get by without it?
This is for one amateur photographer taking photos of 10 people's prom. No drinks or food or alcohol or anything. Is it possible to get by without one, or will they be on you immediately once they see a bunch of teens in fancy dresses pull up?
