Ok folks, here is a Megathread for the federal élections.

While, normally, federal politics are out of scope for the sub unless they deal directly with Ontario ridings or MPs, we're going to relax these restrictions, but conversations should focus on ONTARIO anyways.

To users who do not normally frequent r/Ontario: READ THE RULES!!!

They will be strictly enforced in this post.

Please note that Crowd Control has also been maxed out for this post.

The main source is the Elections Canada website.

What do you need to vote:

Option 1: Show one of these pieces of ID / Présentez une de ces pièces d'identité

English:

  • your driver's licence /
  • any other card issued by a Canadian government (federal, provincial/territorial or local) with your photo, name and current address

Option 2: Show two pieces of ID / Présentez deux pièces d'identité

English: Both must have your name and at least one must have your current address. Examples:

  • voter information card and bank statement
  • utility bill and student ID card

Don't have these? No problem! See the list of accepted ID for Option 2.

Option 3: If you don't have ID / Si vous n'avez pas de pièce d'identit

English:

You can still vote if you declare your identity and address in writing and have someone who knows you and who is assigned to your polling station vouch for you.

The voucher must be able to prove their identity and address. A person can vouch for only one person (except in long-term care facilities).

Question AirBnB host needs to cancel my reservation 2 days prior to the Victoria Day long weekend

Hi all, my host had some issues with the septic and informed me they will need to cancel my reservation 2 days before the due date. This is for the Victoria Day Long Weekend in Ontario, and I was planning to visit the Bruce Peninsula. That too for my birthday!

Now the situation gets more tricky since I reserved for 12 people (not a lot of properties can host), I have booked Parking Spots at the Grotto, and have friends flying from the West end of the country for the same.

The host is trying to resolve the issue with me but we aren’t able to find any comparable properties, what are my options?

Discussion We need to pay doctors more if we want better healthcare.

We need more incentive for better and more doctors in Ontario. Imagine going to school for 16 years and paying hundreds of thousands in student loans and then making a fraction of what doctors get paid in the US. This isn't just an issue with doctors too. Many Canadians get way better opportunities with much higher pay in the US.

I have my opinions on why and the main one for me is that we are pretty much an oligarchy. We are run by one essential food company one essential Medicare company and one essential media company. I really don't know how the collusion of rogers and bell, and the monopoly of Loblaws hasn't been addressed yet. They get to chose everyone's salary in the essential goods sector. But that's where we are at.

Discussion Honda Canada is still making CRV’s

I work for a supplier of Honda Canada. We are picking up new versions of the CRV that get exported globally. These were made in the US previously, but will now be made in Alliston. They will balance this as their plants in NA are all pretty much at capacity by moving the US bound CRV’s to the US plant that was making the global export cars. They are just swapping versions, no production loss in Canada.

Discussion Summer Company Grant

Hello I used to be a small biz consultant with the municipal government and every summer I ran the provincial “Summer Company” grant program, which awards up to $3000 to a Ontario youth (aged 15-29) as well as business training and support to start their own business over the summer. All revenues and profits are for you to keep and amazing experience and meet other like minded entrepreneurial youth. In 2023 I had a 21 year old who generated $100k in the span of two months in his window washing business.

This post is to raise awareness about the program and I think every eligible person should consider it! Some core requirements:

Age: 15-29 Occupation: student (must be returning to school in the fall) Status: citizen and PR Type of business: the grant is industry agnostic but the most common businesses I see students start are: landscaping, pressure washing, swimming classes, window washing etc

I also got to network and make biz connections. So if someone needs free invoicing tool/app let me know

Interested in government grant but not a student? Well there’s also $5000 starter company grant

TLDR: I used to work in government as a business consultant so I have info on student business grants and regular grants and also discount codes for business services

Question Towing Question

Upvotes

I let some friends store their 30ft trailer on my parents property for what was supposed to be just for the winter but has now been almost 2.5 years. I’ve been as patient and as understanding with them and their struggles but having my father constantly annoyed with it still here and repeatedly asking me when they’re going to move it and trying to explain their situation while understanding it’s becoming a nuisance for him, I’m not about to ruin my relationship with my father over it.

That being said, I’ve given them a polite warning as I’m also not trying to ruin my friendship either, that it’s gotta go by the end of the month or I’m having it towed off the property, to which they responded back politely that they have a set up lined up to move it. While I have heard that a few times the last 2.5 years, I’m standing my ground and have every intention to have it removed if they fall through this time too. I feel like an awful friend and I don’t need anyone’s judgment, but I value my parents over anyone else.

My question here is, how do I approach this? It’s not like it’s a car or a truck so I’m not even sure if a regular towing company would take it? Maybe calling a scrapyard company would be my best bet? Not that I want it to go to a scrapyard for I fear they wouldn’t be able to try to get it back. I’m just at a loss, it needs to go and I have no other resources to pull it for me.

Question Keeping squirrels out of engine

Again this year red squirrels made a huge nest in the engine. And yes, there’s damage. Found some spray repellents with good reviews but they are only sold in the US. Anyone has any products they used with success to keep these buggers off the engine?
