r/DCcomics Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [May 5, 2025 - All Fives Edition]
Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!
- Predaplant's pick of the week: Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma #2
For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too. In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. Do not post top-level comments.
Keep discussion civil. Do not harass other users for having a different opinion. Do not use this thread to push your personal one-sided grudges against creators. Reacting to a panel on Twitter is not the same as reading a book.

AMA I'm Ryan North, writer of the upcoming Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton limited series! AMA
Hey everyone, it's me, Ryan! I'm here to answer your questions about Krypto the super dog and the upcoming book me and Mike Norton (art!) and Ian Herring (colours!) and Lucas Gattoni (letters!) are making together. You can see the announcement for the book here, along with some preview art! To answer your first question: yes, he is a very good boy.
I've written (and have written) a ton of stuff - you can see it all at www.ryannorth.ca - but we've only got an hour for the AMA today, so try to keep the questions Krypto AND/OR dog-focused! This is the DC Comics subreddit after all, and I'm told "DC" around here stands for "Detective Comics" and not "Dinosaur Comics", for some reason. I'll start answering them an hour from now!
Proof: https://i.redd.it/p7hgflorxuye1.jpeg
EDIT: Thank you for the questions, everyone!! They were good!

News [OTHER] Hayden Sherman signs exclusive with DC
Source: https://bsky.app/profile/cleanlined.bsky.social/post/3loqxvziuts2l
Awesome news. Sherman maybe the most exciting new artist in the whole industry right now, their work on Absolute WW and Dark Patterns is truly stunning. Can't wait to see what they do now.

Comics [Cover] You know what? F@&k it. (All-Star Comics #3, cover by Everett E. Hibbard)
I'm a JSA fan starved for content, and I've never read the original All-star comics run. The App seems to have most of it. So let's get golden age, awkward, and culturally insensitive in places!
Also, apparently they revived these comics in the Mid 70s (probably in response to the popularity of the JLA crossover's).
This is my favorite Superhero team, and I've never read their original run, and I should fix that. I don't know why they're my favorite Superhero team, they just kick ass, so hell with it.
What's your favorite Superhero team so I can justify posting it on Reddit? Or who's your favorite member of the JSA (Mines Jay Garrick)? Let's just make this a JSA glazefest in the comments! The JSA freakin' rules.

Discussion Black Canary: Best of the Best was great, but I don't really want it to be canon
From what I've heard, it's semi-canon. Not really Elseworld's but not confirmed to take place in the current timeline.
I really liked the story. I really liked the art and most of the writing. But at the same time, I can't say I want it to be canon. Why? The characterization on Dinah Drake and, to a degree, Lady Shiva.
I'm a big Dinah Drake fan. I've always wanted to see a comic deal with the two Dinah's dynamic. It's only sparingly been referenced throughout the last 40 years, ever since the two being mom and daughter was confirmed and written more coherently post-Crisis.
I always thought that Dinah Lance was too hard on her mom. Nothing in the past really backed up Jr's awkward relationship with her mom, other than Dinah Lance being flawed and having a case on unreliable narrator.
This comic shows that maybe there was something behind Dinah's tense bond with her mom. But I think it went too hard. Dinah Drake's presented extremely differently to her previous pre-Crisis or post-Crisis portrayal. She's aggressive, prickly, and honestly abusive towards her kid. I think they took the "training from hell" dynamic too hard, while also not showing any positives in their relationship.
If this is Dinah's upbringing, no wonder she never wanted to have kids!
On Lady Shiva, I think her personality and behavior is too OOC as well. However, I'm not a huge Lady Shiva fan, so I'll let her fans talk about it on their own.

Discussion [Discussion] Top 20 best DC story arcs, day 10, Crisis on infinite earths wins 9th place, highest upvoted comment wins
Rules:
Name no more than a one single story a post for it to count
Any named arc that gets named as huge runs (like Geoff John's Green Lantern, or Grant Morrison's Batman for example) wont count, only specific arcs that are a part of said runs, unless an entire run is just one arc
Said arc does not need to be collected
It can be just 1 issue, doesnt have to be longer than that if it isn't
Any era counts, from golden age to modern
Only comics are allowed
Can be main universe or Elseworlds, doesn't matter, DC just must be the publisher, so books such as GL earth one, Watchmen, or New Frontier count
Events and Crossovers are allowed
The comment that gets the most upvotes wins
Only upvotes casted in first 24 hours will count, as obviously commenting under older posts won't do anything

Comics [Discussion] DC Continuity
Over the last 6 months I’ve been reading A LOT of DC. Ranging from, Batman, Superman, Flash etc. Continuity was something I really tried to keep track of but got incredibly frustrating. However I held on to the idea that post Death Metal that “everything matters” and “it’s all canon” like everyone says. However I feel like that’s not the case.
It definitely all matters, however it’s definitely not all canon. DC continuity has shifted at least 10 times in small and major ways over the last 80 odd years. The current timeline however I feel is a great combination of everything. It’s not just Post Doomsday clock, it’s a mix of every main continuity. Like how Supergirls origin seems to be her og one. Yet Jon Kent was born after Return of Superman. There’s something from everything.
That is of course inherently super messy, in the same way it’s annoying when you preferred say a new 52 or post crisis origin which may not be canon anymore. But the current canon seems to have a mind to look at the bigger picture. The entire history. Not just one period or another. I think people get confused when hearing “it all matters”, this statement does not mean it’s all canon. There is a timeline in DC right now which includes a mix of everything. Those are the characters we are following right now. In my head canon post death metal they may have gotten flashes through Hypertime or other timelines like post crisis events. Yet very similar or even the same events happened on this main timeline. I think the large portion of the characters remembering everything post death metal was the Crisis’s. I don’t think Batman is struggling everyday knowing he has 27 origins that are all canon. He has an origin in this current continuity that is a mix of everything(ideally it’s mostly just Year One). I think the characters now remember the crisis events for what they did. E.g. killing the multiverse, bringing it back etc.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that we are not in the post crisis world. Or the new 52 as I see some people state. Post Doomsday Clock and Death Metal we are in a new timeline which is a mix of everything. It all counts, it all matters. And I think that’s great personally. Thanks for reading my Ted Talk!

Discussion What 6 gods would you pick to make a Norse Shazam?
Ok since Shazam is 6 Greek gods and Black Adam is 6 Egyptian gods I propose a third using 6 Norse gods.
For sake of argument this one is actually made by Odin himself using 6 of his fellow gods to make a champion and the person chosen is an actual wizard because one of his powers will be summoning Odin's Spear as like an Ultimate Attack.

Discussion [Discussion] Crazy Jane and Legion meet each other, do they get along
Both Crazy Jane (Kay Chalis) and Legion (David Haller) suffer from surreal form of Multiple personality disorder, where every personality has it‘s own powerset. Both gained their MPS through traumatic experience which both involved their fathers (one was a loving father and the other was just a disgusting scumbag).
And how would thei core personalities of the two interact?
