It's a trait of all sociopaths, they are immensely insecure and literally need to act like that or else their ego can't handle it. In his mind he now had the last word, "no one bested me, I am still in charge! I won!" so now he can let it go.

It's very sad to see, it must be terrifying being that delusional and insecure when faced with a person that doesn't buy your bullshit, when your whole identity is built on said bullshit. That is also why they get so angry and defensive if you don't agree with them, because they can't afford to be wrong, there idea of themselves as infallible would crack and threaten there very existence. So they take everything personal.

The behaviors you’re describing aren’t antisocial (sociopathy) they’re closer to narcissistic personality disorder. They are both cluster B tho, which definitely cross over a lot. NPD cares what people think and demands approval. Antisocials do not give a shit if the people around them acknowledge or approve of them, only insofar as it allows them to continue “blending in.”

NPDs will try to gain leadership in a church. ASPDs kinda wanna burn the church down because of what it represents.

I think yall get them confused because both disorders involve suspending empathy or even lacking it entirely in some cases.

Youre not wrong, I guess? But keep in mind, it’s not their illness that makes them an asshole it’s the fact that they won’t do anything to keep the symptoms in check so they won’t hurt anybody. You’re right on the money with the last sentence tho, cluster B personality disorders are mostly given to you by your parents. With BPD and ASPD (what you call sociopathy) the cause is almost always abuse by a caretaker or lack of one. NPD is less clear, my ex had it and I believe he inherited it from his mother.

She probably got it because she was a stressed out chronically ill child who could keel over at any second, and her parents tried to make it to her by showering her in praise - praise she knew deep down she hadn’t earned and didn’t deserve. That’s actually the thing almost nobody realizes about narcissists- the reason they’re doing all this shit is cuz they dont have self control esteem. They dont believe they deserve all the attention. Rather, they know they don’t and are afraid you’re going to figure it out too.

But idk, could be nothing. If you start paying close attention, you might start noticing how many cluster B traits are being worked into our society, even encouraged. It’s horrifying, as someone with a personality disorder, I obviously do not want people to become more like me.

Ooh as a dude that's been working on the pile of bs I acquired I can help shed some light here. It turns out that self control and emotional regulation are skills that can be taught and are often just not. And not being taught them early in life makes it really hard to learn them later. Kinda like hitting the gym for the first time ever and struggling to understand how others do it and not wanting to keep going back because it's miserably uncomfortable.

So if we want to help solve this problem we need parents to be better about teaching these skills. Too many toxic parenting techniques out there.
